Ethical decision making in an international context
Ethical decision making refers to the choice made by individuals while facing ethical
dilemma in a situation when there is no clear right as well as wrong answer. According to
researchers, the international business occurs in a moral free space where the ethical environment
is both complex as well as opaque. In such scenario, managing an adverse environment requires
high cognitive complexity. When it come to making effective ethical decision in a global
context, the chief reasons behind the higher complexity of the ethical issues includes highly
competition, multiple number of stakeholders, multiple legislative frameworks, liabilities to
foreignness and greater transparency and visibility (Crane and Matten2016). While working as
an employee in a cross cultural organization, I have evidenced an incident that had led my
superior to make effective ethical decision. The organization that I was working was comprised
of 90 percent employees who belong to the western culture. Ethical dilemma had taken place
when an employee of eastern culture was abused culturally by a staff that belonged to the
western culture. The conflict took a massive stage and reached to the manager of the
organization (Wallace and Sheldon 2015). It was an ethical dilemma for the manager and after
several numbers of sessions, the conflict got mitigated. In order avoid further conflict, no stern
step was taken against the accused. However, measures were taken to ensure no such incidents
takes place in future.
