Reflection
I believe that ethical decision making is important for the teachers, as it protects the rights of the
students and the teachers. It is necessary to understand that one should respect the personal
beliefs of children and one cannot push their personal beliefs as they are audiences. Since,
teachers have to collaborate with others like the community members and should be well aware
of respecting their views and values. Teachers come across students from various ethnic
minorities, with various cultures, traditions and languages. It is necessary to exercise compassion
and care with all these. The GCU statement is about the role of the teachers to carry out teaching
or their work with compassion, justice and concern for the greater and the common good. As
stated above, I think that teachers should always monitor whether children with special needs are
being identified and are provided with proper inclusive education irrespective of their cast and
creed. It is often seen that teachers often act as role models for the children and hence will be
able to uphold the ethical values of honesty, integrity, kindness, compassion, such that they
practice the same with other for the others. Teachers hold a position in the society, where they
are the creators of individuals, who will work for the society in the future and act for the
common good (Epstein et al., 2018). As, it has been stated that they should be working for the
common good of the students, families and the colleagues. it is necessary that teachers are able to
think about the wellbeing of his/ her peers, and the families of the students as it is natural that the
wellbeing of the students are dependent on the wellbeing of the family members (Epstein et al.,
2018). A teacher should have the courage to escalate about anything that is wrong.
