A few days back I faced a negative experience at my workplace. My team leader

gave me a work that involved creating a product (the product was based on a 3d printing

technology). For the designing process, the team leader gave me the blueprint of the product. In

initially accepted the task and started doing my basic research on the internet about the product.

After some analysis, I found out that the product which was told by my supervisor to design was

already used by another company and what I realized was that the blue print belonged to the

particular company as well. I immediately denied the task that was given to me. This resulted in

a conflict at my workplace.

The main reason for the conflict was that the decision made by my team leader

could potentially affect the future reputation of the company. The victim company could target

my company on infringement of copyright laws and could charge it with misdemeanour.

Moreover, I could face lawsuits as well as I am the chief designer of the company. My

supervisors did not take my decision lightly and ordered me to complete the assignment without

any more questions.

From this conflict situation, I learn that doing my work diligently should be my main

motivation for performing it. It is one of my duties to conduct my profession in the most ethical

way possible (Sonnentag,
Unger & Nägel, 2013). My team leader did not fall under that
category. He wanted to take a shortcut and take the easy way possible. This conduct had the

potential to tarnish my reputation. The lawsuits against my company could have landed my

company in big trouble. The conduct by my team leader could have not only harmed me and my

company but also the other employees that work in this organisation.

I decided to face the situation head on. It would have been best if I had reported the

situation to my higher authorities (Katz & Flynn, 2013). Moreover, I would have asked the

team leader to consider his decision again taking the seriousness of the matter in context. If that

was not enough, I would have given him ethical recommendation that I would have considered

if I was in his place. It would have taken some more time to complete the assignment without

the blueprint. As a designer, it was my job to perform the blueprint from the basics rather than

blatantly copying it for personal gains. The negative side of this conflict was that I made my TL

angry.

I came to know about ghost writers recently through which my friends were pasing with

good marks in their examinations. This was of prior concern to me as it involved the skill of

another person to pass the examination. To address the above scenario, I would let my tutor

know about the situation in private. I am well aware that this will potentially ruin my friendship

with my classmates but I am willing to take the risk in this situation. But I hope that in the long

run, they will understand that my intentions were towards their wellbeing.

An important element of the ACS Code of Conduct is honesty. It basically states the

increase in the deceptive scenarios in a profession that will be tempting to perform at first.

These kinds of proposal need to be rejected for maintain one’s profession in an ethically correct

way (Durkheim, 2013). My classmates needs to realize the difference between their personal

opinions and what the profession asks them to do in the first place. Despite the malicious

conducts, the profession asks the person to consider the profession righteously (Code of Ethics

and Standards of Professional Conduct, 2018). In the mentioned scenario, the ghost writers who

are performing the tasks should get the proper credit instead of my classmates. For their

temporary gains of increasing their grades, they should not be using another person’s work as

their own (MacKinnon, 2017).

Professional development is the next element. This conduct states that a person should

promote his development in profession through his or her actions (Quinn, 2014). Situations that

might destroy their professional conduct should be avoided at any cost.

The next element of ACS code of professional conduct is competence. This element of

the code states that the person who is performing the profession should be capable enough to

take it (Banks, 2013).
If the person unable to do the task at its best, then he or she should
immediately deny that in the first case. In the given case study, it is provided that the students

are using ghost writers to do their assignments and achieve good marks. This is indirect contrast

to the professional code where it clearly mentions that another person’s work should not be

misinterpreted as its own (Acs.org.au, 2018).

The students will be able to increase their satisfaction rate as well as competence

through the proposed actions that will be in parallel to the ACS code of professional conduct.

Part A

The verbal and listening skills I used for completing the assignment was in discussing

about the companies using the 3D printing technologies with mu fellow classmates. My proper

skills helped me to develop a good discussion with my friends about the topic which gave me a

deep insight into the working of the technology.

To effectively develop the document, I used my reading skills in researching about the

topic in books and online journals on the internet (Bhatia, V. K.2014). My skills helped me to

properly evaluate different technologies used in 3D printing technology and how each of them

were different from each other.

Due to my interpersonal and teamwork skills, the evaluation of different 3D printing

technology with respect to their industries were conducted thoroughly. Initially, the team was

reluctant on following a comprehensive topic but my teamwork skills helped the team to

understand that every member needs to work according to a plan (Stokoe, 2014). The teamwork

also helped me to understand my team members properly. During certain issues in the decision

making processes, the interpersonal skills came in handy.

The ethical issue in my workplace helped me to understand the social, legal and privacy

domains in ICT related scenarios (Rodríguez-Miranda, Pozuelos-Estrada & León-Jariego,

2013). Moreover, the stealing of CAD data as well as certain medical usages of 3D printing

technology helped me to realize about the social and legal aspects of the topic.

Intercultural competency and diversity skills were used when I assigned my team

members with various tasks irrespective of their race, colour or gender. Most of the times, the

male members conduct the primary aim of the report but in this case, I equally assigned the

tasks to random students to promote diversity (Martin & Nakayama, 2013).

During the assignment, the communication and collaboration technology that was

learned was social media. The social media can be used in an organisation to gain precious

feedbacks and assess the competitive position of the market (Braswell, McCarthy & McCarthy,

2017). Moreover, it can be used for marketing ideas for the benefit of the organisation.

To evaluate ICT technologies, real time data validation and data entry errors need to be

analysed properly. The scalability of the system needs to be checked and the monitoring system

needs to be evaluated. Moreover, the optimizing and streamlining of the business processes will

increase due to the ICT technology (Ventola, 2014). For improving the organizational

communication process, the ICT technologies like the 3D printing technology can be evaluated

by checking the accuracy of the system. The consistency of proper results will be enough to

evaluate the system as effective for the organization or not.

Part B

By keeping the ACS conduct of Professional practice mind, the experience has helped

me to grow professionally. The benefits of additive technology has been assessed in the report.

According to me, an addition of an analysis section in the report could have been beneficial for

the reader. Moreover, the incorporation of a case study in the given assignment could have

provided the user with a practical knowledge about the situation. The Unit Learning outcome or

ULO for this assignment was the ethical conduct of professional practices in an organization.

The idea of ethical considerations of every aspect of a profession will be the most beneficial for

me when I graduate as an ICT professional (Pilgrim, 2013). Another ULO was the social, legal

and ethical issues that are associated with every profession in the industry. This is because

judging every activity with an ethical consideration is necessary for the humans to behave in a

social manner.

According to me, the use of 3D printing technology by Carbon 3D organization

intrigued me about the entire unit (Jiang et al., 2013).

The incorporation of a case study in the mentioned assignment could have been better.

This is the only thing that I would have liked to improve about this assignment.
