As a midwife, make an observation in a clinical setting or reflect on past experience. What
creative thinking techniques have you observed being used? What decision making tools
have you observed being used? How ethical issues addressed in your institution?
Midwifery is one of the most important and fundamental concept of modern healthcare in
United Kingdom. Midwife practices play important role for nursing that involve a number of
critical and rational thinking process in order to conduct this nursing practice. It helps in
providing quality care to patients. I was practicing as midwifery lead in the hospital on an early
shift. In order to practice this rule I undertake number of critical thinking and decision making
skills in order to provide proper care mothers in order to build a good relationship with them. For
this I properly introduced myself with the help facial expressions and hand gestures. I believe
that I could effectively perform my caring role for clients by understanding their needs and the
care that has been required by them. I have undertaken use of number of critical thinking skills
that are adaptability, in order to understand the needs and requirement of individuals with
different culture and backgrounds. Communication, in order to positively developed relationship
with patients in order to listen and understand their different needs in order to effectively conduct
by role. While on the other hand in order to conduct my role as a midwife I undertake use of
effective decision-making framework which is clinical decision making in order to undertake
decisions according to the situation. Decision making offers me if opportunity to provide
effective care to patients by communicating evidence-based information. It has been identified
by me that in my institution ethical issues have been addressed with the use of supporting the
nursing codes of ethics, providing ongoing education, creation of an environment that nurses can
speak and bringing different disciplines together.
