Background of study:
Participating in research, a nurse has to maintain three contradictory matter like nursing or
caring, society and science which creates dilemma within the practice of nursing. From the
literature review it can be concluded that as a nurse it seems to be difficult to make right decision
and maintain ethical values all the time.
Methods of the study:
The qualitative pattern has been followed by the researcher for collecting the data. Two
consecutive qualitative analyses has been done for this research. The purpose of this study is to
understand and interpret social interaction of a small chosen group with the subject i.e.
1. The use of research findings in the nursing practice and
2. Ethical values in nursing.
The chosen group of twenty people is constituting of ten nurses within which five are researcher
and other ten peoples are patient and patient’s family member. The participants and their
characteristics may be known to researcher through which subjectivity is expected. In case of
quantitative survey, statistical procedures are the key factor which is used to analyze data and
gives answer to the particular research questions generated.
Results of the study:
The results of this study define that ethical values are very much important in nursing practice.
But every time it getting problematic to apply. In case application of modern techniques in
nursing, majority supports the view but it is unreal because of many reasons like deficiency of

trained nurses, work pressure of them, unavailability of modern techniques and findings and
patients non cooperation.
The ways in which the findings might be used in nursing practice:
The research findings, that might be used into practice remains problematic. So the applicability
of new research findings in daily basis of practice is very poor (Aitamaa et al., 2016).
Henceforth, till now it is not clear that how clinical practice would be much more enriched in
nursing by using research knowledge (De, 2016). A qualitative methodology is used by gathering
the data from the nurses working on different field like mental health community nurses,
learning disability nurses, and pediatric nurses (Filipova, 2018). According to Koskenvouri
Numminen & Suhonen(2018) .The role of nurses includes follow-up treatment, clinical nursing
practices, consultation and illness prevention and for these application of new research findings
is necessary. This would reduce symptoms of chronic diseases, and improve health care services
(Phillips, MacKusick & Whichello, 2018). All participants stated that they tried to apply research
findings over their patients to understand their mental health, their behavior, and treat them
accordingly (Rennó, Ramos & Brito, 2018). Nurses also apply their research findings in the field
of wound care, mouth care, pressure ulcers, pre-operative fasting, care of urethral catheters, and
pain-control (Tuominen, Leino & Suhonen, 2016). There were also less researched area like risk
management and risk assessment, family interventions and cognitive behavior therapy. As per
the comment of Vryonides et al., (2015), in a qualitative study few people mention that computer
with internet connection is necessary in working areas so that they can read the research paper
for applying the recent research findings over patients. As per the comment of Tuominen, Leino

& Suhonen, (2016), in order to apply the research findings in practice, nurses should develop a
commitment to research. The necessary resources and funds should deliberately ensure for
applying the new findings. According to the statement of the author namely Philips Mackson &
Whichello (2018). every staff should be trained by the new finding methodologies so that
everyone can take the responsibilities of applying new research findings over the patients.
However, in nursing, the field of health promotion takes a broad area of research, so much more
research is needed to verify the role of health promotion in nursing ground (Koskenvuori,
Numminen & Suhonen, 2019).
Ethical considerations associated with the conduct of the study:
Healthcare practitioner should have ethical values, which is very essential for their profession.
Ethics means character which is mainly derived from the Greek word “ethos,” (Filipova, 2018).
It is a language of interaction, which includes the practical basis for getting knowledge about
what type of intentions, actions, and motives are valued (De, 2016). The ethics mainly focuses
on every action, which may be the wrong, or right and encompasses the every decision-making
process for the ultimate action taken against that fact. Healthcare practitioner should maintain
their duties towards promoting good for their patients; minimize the harm and also refrain
themselves from maltreatment. For all the nurses and healthcare professionals who are practicing
competently should maintain a guidelines and regulations for making the profession noble
(Vryonides et al., 2016). The ethical issues have to be considered for qualitative research. WHO
shows that worldwide millions of patients suffering in injuries every year because of unsafe
medical issues and without care (Tuominen, Leino & Suhonen, 2016). Only 10 % patients are

harmed for preventable causes by receiving health care in multispecialty hospital. As per the
comment of Phillips, MacKusick & Whichello, (2018), nursing Ethics mainly focuses on issues
regarding care, morality, cultural and religious values, pro-fissional ethics, and law
accountability. The Ethical consideration associated with the study is mainly learned about the
customs and cultural attitudes for taking local health care. The connection between giving quality
nursing care and the culture is proportional to each other. Nursing ethics also considered the
patient’s rights, integrity, patient’s privacy and respect for dignity. As per the comment of
Phillips, MacKusick & Whichello, (2018), it also includes some ongoing vital issues like
abortion. Nurses face many ethical dilemmas and they need to evaluate constantly what would be
the nest for the particular patients, basically they are patient advocates. Keeping the issue in
mind, the Code of Ethics has been developed by the American Nurses Association (ANA). Due
to past violation regarding patients’ right during Second World War, concept of patients’ consent
became essential. In West, the topic would become a discussion of informed consent; As per the
comment of Phillips, MacKusick & Whichello, (2018), though informed consent, firstly
endorsed as general condition for conducting the ethical values of nursing research. After that, in
the time during 1945– 1949 war crime trials, Nuremberg Code has been issued. Its first
important statement is: ‘The voluntary consent of the human participant is absolutely essential’.
So, protection from harm and voluntary participation are very important in the window of ethical
principles. However, ethical problems are mainly generated in qualitative research, due to the
intimacy of nursing researcher and patient’s participant. As per the comment of Phillips,
MacKusick & Whichello, (2018), it is really getting difficult mainly due to the vulnerability and
lack of power under the clinical situation. Henceforth, there arises a potential conflict between
two minds i.e. between the researcher mind and the professional mind of a nurse and which has

to be solved by the single person. As per the comment of Phillips, MacKusick & Whichello,
(2018), nurses, who wants to do qualitative research have to consider a huge number of complex
ethical issues whereas researcher learns to cope up the objective and subjective elements with
tension. The nurse should have respect for every individual and it’s important for the patient’s
family also. Health promotion in a very ethical manner by nurses would provide a positive
outcome covering quality of lives, adherence, self-management and the patients’ own illness
knowledge. Shortage of nursing stuff is also a big issue for that nurses are unable to maintain
their ethical values what they learn from their first day of nursing class. Due to heavy workload
they cannot fulfill the ethical responsibility towards patients as well as patient’s family. So the
nurse always suffers in dilemma between their service and their behavior. The only possible
solution of problem is empowering the nurses and restricting their work environment. As per the
comment of Phillips, MacKusick & Whichello, (2018), now a days almost all renowned
organizations maintain the guidelines about the ethics and developed a board, which review the
ethical concerns. Nurses, at all levels of practice as well as their own lives should maintain the
ethical views. It is important as an advocate of patient for the right of a patient, patient care, and
consideration of ethical values in practice. As per the comment of Phillips, MacKusick &
Whichello, (2018), maintain ethical views should begin in nursing school and continue as long as
the nurse is practicing.
