PART A
The principles of effective interpersonal communication describes with regard to a community set up,
how to build relationships and also how to resolve issues that emerge on a day to day basis. Personally I
have learned effective communication during my interactions with other students as well as how to the
issues that emerge during our interactions in and out of the school environment.
A good example of an instance where my listening and verbal communication skills have come in handy
is during the group discussions scheduled for some of our courses.
During some of our group discussions in school, the discussion has gone round and round with
no one to conclude. During our last group discussion, I was able to save us time as I quickly came up
with a decision on how to solve the group task. Decision making is key in team works.
In many discussions, peers argue for hours and end up disagreeing not because they have totally
different ideas but because some of the group members are not able to effectively communicate their
ideas. This extends all the way to written communication as many people write as unclear as they speak.
I have always been afraid of speaking in public. The fear of having every ones attention in a
class or any other gathering is quite scaring to me. However, with the group presentations we have been
doing in our class have helped me a lot. Being in front of the class with your colleagues who you
discussed together gives some kind of confidence in a presentation. For the first time, last month I was
able to offer a presentation facing the audience and it is all thanks to the continued practice.
Ethics, codes of behaviour, societal, privacy and legal issues are among the things that professionals
need to adhere to in order to achieve a great work environment. Ethics stress the system in which good
morals are applied.
In Australia, speech is not always formal, informal speech is typical. There is a lot of humour whenever
colleagues are talking. Humour between colleagues does not mean there is not respect. The most
common form of humour is sarcasm.
The name ICT says it all. ICT to me means obtaining and transferring (communicating) information
using technology. For any big organization communication is in the centre of every other process and so
effective communication using the technological platforms provided by ICT would improve relatively
all business processes in any organization.
One of the emerging technologies in ICT is office big data and machine learning. These two have been
quite useful especially for e-commerce websites who use the big data they collect from their websites to
predict the buying trends for different customers. It is also used in dynamic websites with content sliders
to predict what to display to each customer.

Interpersonal communication and active listening would definitely be the ULO I would choose. This is
because it helps me understand on how to have a relationship with my mentors or colleagues. Apart
from my knowledge, this ULO will give me a competitive advantage especially in an interview and also
bind trust with my colleagues or boss.
But over after learning about the other ULO I would still choose interpersonal communication. Although
diversity and intercultural competency skills and teamwork skills made me second guess my choice
because I understood how to respect other people’s cultures because we are not same. Also teamwork
skills helped me understand that people have different temperaments and personalities. By knowing this
I can easily know one’s strengths or weakness.
