Business Ethics a Global Perspective
Answer 1
After reading (Bonsall, 2015), my opinion regarding 'Informed consent' is that when a
person obtains consent for medical condition after attaining a thorough understanding of what
is intricate, and then it is an informed consent. For an example, being a medical professional,
I always need to consent to the surgery by a patient or to partaking in a medicinal experiment
by a respondent (Menendez, 2013).
Being a mental health nurse, I will draw the definition of this term in such way that informed
consent is getting the official papers signed as well as dated by the contestants, set out the
purpose, profits, involved risks and info needed for allowing the contributors to create
an informed as well as voluntary decision for participating in that clinical study (Menendez,
2013). On the other hand, in research field, being a researcher, it is his or her accountability
to teach the scholars about the purpose of the study, the process, the involved risks, benefits,
and most importantly obtain the consent of scholars before encompassing them into
their research. Besides, keeping them informed is also comes into researchers’
responsibilities from the informed consent viewpoint (Bonsall, 2015).
Being a nurse, my viewpoint about informed consent is that: A nurse or doctor must put all
efforts to be ensured about the patient understanding about the purpose, profits, risks, and
other alternatives of the treatment or test. Moreover, after informing all the above details to
the patient, I always get the patients’ consent before sending them to start the medial
procedure.
Answer 2
Professionalism is a major part of the skill set or behaviour which goes yonder what a
usual person would have in a formal or business manner. If I want to become a professional
person then I must possess attributes include motivated, efficient, leadership, detail oriented,
problem solving, and team work. Having these above attributes will not going to work until I
will utilize all of them at my workplace. Professionalism also contains understanding as well
as satisfying my client, patient, customer or business partner successfully (Charlotte, 2014).
One most essential as well as important quality of professionals is that we always make our

speciality our expertise. According to me, becoming an expert in the tools as well as skills
which are necessary to do my job will make me professional. Moreover, I always perform to
the best of my capabilities and explore the utmost possibilities of my abilities to become
professional in my area. Being a professional, I must keep my knowledge up to date in my
area so that I can resolve real time problems any time anywhere. For that I always do more
than expected so that my knowledge scale can expand more and I can learn more on every
day of my life. If I am a professional then I should praise my peers rather than myself.
Moreover, my future practice will be containing sharing of knowledge as much as possible as
I know that spreading knowledge will drive me towards perfection (Ghadirian, Salsali, &
Cheraghi, 2014).
Answer 3
Informed consent and professionalism both are strongly linked to my current
profession as a mental health nurse (Williams, 2018). As I need to deal with the patients and
relatives of them on daily basis so I need to be professional in my nursing practice as well as
treating their fellow members nicely at my workplace. Besides, my expertise in my subjects
and nursing practice allows me to be an expert in my area and work as well. Additionally, my
professionalism is strength for my patients’ treatment and their family members. Moreover,
informed consent is playing a vital role in nursing and medical practice because after
informing thoroughly and obtaining consent by the patients about their treatments as well as
tests, we proceed further so that any communication loophole cannot be left in between us.
Informed consent is also important for the fact that there can be number of alternative
treatment approaches to some disease and we only adopt one (WOOGARA, 2011). Hence, if
the patient wants to be treated by some other way then he or she must be informed timely and
in detail so that they will never have regret and doubt as well about anything related to their
treatment process. Additionally, professional standards in my nursing professional are used to
define the proficient level of care among each phase of the nursing procedures (Ghadirian,
Salsali, & Cheraghi, 2014). These professional standards are very much important in my
profession as they encourage as well as guide my clinical practice.
