This essay focuses on the fieldwork conducted in Cabramatta in Sydney, Australia.
This place is chosen for investigation based on Indo-Chinese community service because it is
one of the significant places in Australia for migrants. The demography of the place depicts
the diverse culture and linguistic presence in this area. The arguments will be given both in
favor and against the ethnic residential concentration. Photographs of places incorporated in
the essay shall signify the importance of these places in Cabramatta. The conclusion will
clearly bring forth the benefits to the huge number of immigrants in Cabramatta as well as the
problems.
Cabramatta is a place, which is primarily inhabited by immigrants from South Asian
countries. The ethnic residential concentration has certain pros and cons. Public, politicians
and academicians have critically reviewed the infiltration of people due to various reasons in
Cabramatta. In the process of time, Cabramatta became the centre place for Vietnamese. This
concentration of immigrants had led to many internal problems and hampering the social
structure (Dunn 1993).The place has been commercialized to attract tourists to see diversified
culture in one place. It has gradually become a place for various activities.
It will be discussed along with photographs of fieldwork the importance of various
places in Cabramatta emphasizing ethnic residential concentration and their impact on
society. The explanation will enable in giving a better understanding of globalization, history
of migration and various other factors.
CORE COMMUNITY SERVICES
The mission of core community service is to provide essential services to aged,
differently able people and people going through financial crunch. Their motto is to go
beyond helping people coming from varied cultural and linguistic backdrop and deliver
service to local people irrespective of their origin. The service rendered to all devoid of any

discrimination (Cabracc.org.au, 2017). Figure 1 shows the different services provided by the
Core Community Services. The Indo-Chinese community services provided to the aged
people is extremely helpful and economically feasible. The service is provided with the
mission to take care of elderly residents. The staffs are of Indo-Chinese origin to make it easy
for them to communicate and understand the needs of elderly people
(Indochineseagedcare.org.au, 2017). It makes the work easier and the service provided is
more effective. It is the regional centre for the people from South Asia.

BELVEDERE ARCADE AND FAIRFIELD CITY
Australia has undergone economic changes due to the impact of globalization and
mixed population that has always been a salient feature of the country. The economy has
become more open. Places like Cabramatta have become dynamic centers to carry on
business activities due to its mixed population. Various kinds of trades are carried on here
and these places are becoming main business centers after the big cities. The economic
structure is continuously being changed (Stimson 2011). Australian government has
promoted multiculturalism, as it would benefit natives the most. It supported unity in
diversity by allowing everyone to retain their culture and giving equal chances to all (Clyne
and Jupp 2013). Due to the cultural diversity of the place, it can attract many tourists across
the globe by promoting the diverse ethnicity of the place.
Figure 2 shows the two significant places of Cabramatta that is both strategic and
effective in terms of economic growth as well as multiculturalism. The multiculturalism of
Australia has promoted varied cuisine in the country. This is especially true in case of a place
like Cabramatta, which is inhabited by migrants. This area has multiple food joints offering
various kind of cuisine to meet the demands of the culturally diversified people staying here.
It offers Asian food as the migrants are mostly from Asia. The excellent cuisine of this place
makes it a favorite destination to the food lovers across the world. This automatically helps in
economic development of the country by promoting trade and tourism of such places.

namely Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese and Singapore. It represents the demand of
migrated people who came from various nations.

Fairfield city on the other hand is a place to be discovered for its unique nature. It is a
very vibrant place, full of restaurants and shopping malls. Both the places mostly offer
authentic Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Korea and Cambodian cuisine. They also celebrate the
food festival during October. This makes the place very interesting for the inhabitants
(Fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au, 2017). Figure 3 gives a picture of Fairfield city, which are a fun
activity centre and a place to come across people from different cultural background.

NEW WORLD CENTRE
The new world centre in Cabramatta is a place that also promotes diverse culture. It
stands against the notion that an understanding and collaboration among the ethnic groups is
considered impossible and hence ethnic conflict cannot be avoided. It is feared that such
cultural diversity will only lead to chaos (Dunn 1998). It cannot be denied that there are some

positive aspects of ethnic concentration as well. It has made Cabramatta a multicultural
activity hub. It has become a place of mixed culture and language. It also has various
restaurants and shops of different ethnicity. This makes such places very interesting for the
tourists and helps the ethnic groups to maintain their originality. Cabramatta is a place where
multiculturalism is promoted. It can be a part of government policy also to incorporate people
from different ethnic origins, coming from various communities to stay in a particular place
by forming a society (Hugo 1995).
Figure 4 shows the new world center that has been a pivotal point of various kind of
multicultural activity. Such places promote respect for all kind of culture and helps in
retaining the uniqueness of each ethnicity.

Therefore, this fieldwork has shown that Cabramatta is a place of diversified
ethnicity. This enables individual to be culturally enriched and promotes a harmonious
existence among people from different background. The significance of this ethnic residential
concentration has opened spaces for many government and non-government organizations to
provide service to the Indo-Chinese community. Cabramatta is of historical as well as cultural
significance for its unique diversity and authentic delicacies. It has promoted trade in many
sectors and changed the economic structure. The cultural impact has a great influence on the
society. Despite the negative aspects, the place has shown unity and integrity.
