concern of unemployment for ethnic minority group but it can be argued that there are
number of Event minority graduates who are unemployed due to disparity. However, in
between 2012 and 2013, there was a situation when unemployment levels of ethnic group
graduates and normal group was on the same level and it remained constant (Blossfeld,
Hamerle and Mayer, 2014). Nevertheless, suddenly there was rise in employment of
domestic and white graduates, which demonstrated the scenario of disparity and
marginalisation of groups.

Chapter 2: Literature Review
Employment Rate in event industry
According to Siebert and Wilson, 2013, it has been analysed that employment rate is a
major concern, which derives number of individuals involved in the same industry. Event
industry is unique sector whose services based on innovation and client satisfaction. It is
the sector where it is essential for owners to have variety of opinion on one project. The
major concern of the industry is to make cost effective plans and innovation for managing
budget, client satisfaction and profits.
As per Britain Recession: Finding from economic and social research 1965, that it has
been identified that ethnic minority is the common reason of lacking employment in event
industry (Williams Powers and Foa, 2010). This disparity among people according to their
religious beliefs and ancestral backgrounds is the major cause of inequality due to which
unemployment rate specifically in event industry increasing (Dennis, Phinney and
Chuateco, 2015).
As per Rising unemployment for UK's ethnic minorities: who 's affected?, 2014, the rate
is 46% for young Pakistani and Bangladeshi workers and 45% for young black people
which clearly represents the disparity. Further, rate is 26% for young mixed-race workers,
34% for young Indians and 29% for Chinese.

Blossfeld, Hamerle and Maye 2014, as stated that unemployment rate is high
for ethnic minority groups because of lacking language skills because the employer
preference in service sector is English language. However, lower education
qualification is the concern of unemployment for ethic minority group but it can be
argued that there are number of Event minority graduates who are unemployed due to
disparity. However, in between 2012 and 13 was a situation when the unemployment
el Ofe i ou graduates and normal group on same level and it remained constant.
Nevertheless, suddenly there was a rise in employment of domestic and white
graduates, which demonstrated the scenario of disparity and marginalisation of groups.
According to Minority ethnic workers in UK twice as likely to be unemployed as
whites. It has been identified that UK employment rate was 4.2 % in 2018 January and
March.
However, unemployment rate was 3.8 percent for white ethnic group and 7.1 percent of
Black Asian minority group. Similarly, from this, it can be stated that ethnic minorities
are also differentiated and discriminated on the basis of colour. In accordance, to
unemployment index, it can be said that service industry makes difference in ethnic
minority groups which is increasing of disparity among people.
Further, as per the views of Unemployment, 2018, it has been discussed that 16-24
year who are from ethnic minority backgrounds now have an unemployment rate of
37%, up
33% in 2012 and is continuously increasing from past 3 years that represents no matter
minorities are educated, but still individuals will not be considered as part of society
(Weiss 2014).
group are marginalised and unemployed due to difference in opinion, beliefs, language,
backgrounds etc.
As per the views of Preuss 20 5, โ€ขt has been identified that only 4 % of white people
are unemployed in comparison to ethnic group. In accordance with white across the
country, there
9 % ethnic minorities and 4 % white. Further, in West Midlands, there are 1 1
percent Ethnic minorities and 5 percent white unemployed. Risking unemployment in
event sector impact over unemployment index of UK economy. It is evident that
differentiation in ethnicity group had decreased employment by 580, 000 in period of
2008 to 2010. Further, it is noticeable that decrease in employment impact man of

society which is of 3 percent and women fallen 0.7 percent. Thus, from over all
discussion, it can be concluded that it is evident that ethnicity event graduates are
discriminated and unemployment in event sector. On the other hand, from the
discussion, it has been analysed that ethnicity group is unemployed on the basis of
various factors that is colour, gender, beliefs, perception etc.
As per Chappell, 2012, it has been analysed that unemployment rate demonstrate the key
factors which are the root cause of issues. As per the rate, it has been analysed that
unemployment in UK is a social problem not only for ethic minority event graduates but for
all the marginalised group. It is the vicious cycle which is impacting social economic
condition of society and is leading to economic imbalance. It is disparity which is cause of
lose income, lack of innovation, loses production and consumer spending. Regardless of
job opportunities, minority event graduates experiences discrimination, lack of growth
opportunities and limited work option. The disparity and barriers of differences are
focusing event graduates to seek of employment in different fields to have control over
socio economic conditions.
As per the views of Dickinson, 2014, it has been analysed that unemployment in
event sector is the problematic situation because the industry and its success is based
on combination of ideas and perception. It requires skills as well as practical
knowledge over idea implementation (Shimer, 2012). The author evaluated different
reasons of increasing unemployment in sector from where it has been identified that
maximum number skills unemployed graduates are of ethic minorities ยปโ‚ฌhich are
marginalised by domestic citizen of UK. Ethnic minorities are the group of
individuals who has different beliefs, language, race and religion but have similar
qualification in comparison to UK.
According to Preuss, 2015, Ethnic minority is a group of community with
different cultural and national traditions from the other population. They differ in
race, religion, disability, wealth and health. Gender and sexual minorities like lesbian,
gay or bisexual people are not likely to be an employee in UK. Unemployment is an
economic condition under which individuals seeking for jobs and remain
unemployed. It has become a threat to global economic well-being and social
development. The term unemployment, means that anyone who is educated but still
UN-hired. It is the most common problem.
As per the views of Bell and Blanchflower, 2010, there are 5 types of
unemployment:frictional unemployment, cyclical unemployment, structural

unemployment, real wage or classical unemployment, and seasonal unemployment.
The level of unemployment varies with economic conditions and other circumstances.
The cause of unemployment comprise, increased population, rapid technological
change, lack of education or skills and rising cost lead to financial, social and
psychological problems. Dickinson, 2014, has discussed about various causes which
are core reason behind increasing unemployment of ethnic minority event graduate in
event sector which are as follows:
Increase in population: As the number of job seeking population is increasing,
it is diffcult to arrange jobs for this huge population. In this situations the demand for
jobs will be more than the available occupation. Due to this rate of unemployment
increases.
Rapid technological change: this change plays an important role in the
increased unemployment problem because due to advancement in technology
requirement of training and development ultimately increases. Many jobs which were
handled manually are being done by new technologies. Advanced and new
technologies replaced the skilled and unskilled workers.
Lack of education and skills: The third cause of unemployment is lack of
education and skills. This happens due to the mismatch of the qualification of a person
and job responsibilities (Schmitz, 2011). This leads to the structural unemployment.
These individuals are unable to understand and learn new skills applicable for the
required job i.e. computer skills, management and communication.
Rising cost: Unemployment can be due to the rising cost. The rising cost made
it hard for the company to pay salary to its employees. Hence, the employees leave the
low wages job ยป,hich leads to unemployment.
Hard core unemployment: Hard core unemployment usually results when a
worker is disabled and is not in a position to work due to dissatisfaction with the
wages, which leads Unstable labour market denotes the need of job creation.
Discriminating factors in the place of work (may include discrimination on the basis
of age, class, ethnicity, colour and race).
Recession: Recession is a major factor for unemployment in most of the
countries. However, financial crisis in one country can affect the other countries'
economy due to globalization.

Changes in global market: Changes in the global Markets are another
important factor. Any country economy adversely affects when its exports are low
due to changes in global markets, and increase in price. With this production suffers
and companies unable to pay on time and this increases the rate of unemployment.
Attitude towards employers: Negative attitude by the employees towards the
employers creates unhealthy environment in the organization. And this ultimately
leads to unemployment (Wrench, Rea and Ouali, 2016).
Krasteva and Todorov, 2011, has discussed about economic consequences of
unemployment that is fall in demand for goods and services which is directly to
proportionate to decrease in profits and revenues. Further, it has been identified that
disparity in employment factors is impacting economic condition of UK, which can
lead to financial crisis. In addition, it is the factor which is leading to geographical
immobility and structural mismatch in skills of working. Specifically, unemployment
for ethnic minority group is also imparting education because due to lack of job
opportunities people are avoiding learning event and programming. Immigrants are
loosing interest in international education because the minority group find is waste of
money and learning where the individual are unable to keep control over their socio
economic factors.
Thus, from the discussion it can be outlined that all the causes of disparity and
employer of event graduates of minority group is leading to long term damage to
country and servcie industry. There are many projects which remain undone because
of lacking ideas and client dissatisfaction. As per views of different authors it has
been analysed that it is necessary for the event sector to focus on employment of
minority group graduates.
Socio economic factors and its impact on unemployment
According to Booth, Leigh and Varganova, 2012, it has been identified that
socio economic factors are the major cause f unemployment among ethnic minority group.
The employment negligence is impacting stability of minorities group in UK. A per
scholar, it has been discussed that ethnic minority group in UK, is greatly influenced by
disparity. The unequal employment condition for event graduates are leading to food
insecurity, lack of income and increasing health problems. As per the views of Wrench,
Rea and Ouali, 2016, income is the crucial concern because it is the amount of money
11
Document Page
which the person earns from daily activities for maximizing basic living conditions.
However, the author discussed that unemployment is economic as well as social problems
which is derives cost of unemployed people in society as whole. The author also discussed
about qualified even graduates who are unemployment are struggling for basic socio
economic condition such as, health services, fool, home etc. Like, Battu and Zenou, 2010,
has stated that regardless of socio economic factors, unemployment among event
graduates is leading to waste of human resource which can helps the industry in managing
innovation in event projects. Further, it is the severe concern problems for gradates in UK
because it is leading to discrimination and also influencing living standards of immigrants.
According to Leong and Leong, 2014, it has been discussed that unemployment
for ethnic minority group in UK is severe topic of concern as it comprise income, market
stability, economic contribution, security, social relationship and dependence of family. In
addition, from the study, it has been analysed that unemployment among minority group is
leading to risk of loss of talent and skills, in a great amount of university graduates which
is directly related to lack of innovation in services and contribution in economy. Similarly,
Lauritsen and Heimer, 2010, has discussed about relationship between unemployment and
health and mortality which is further segregated into four key facts that is increasing
poverty, social restriction and isolation, impact on self esteem and increasing health
concerns.
Apparently Forehand and Kotchick, 2016, has stated that new event graduates of
ethnic minorities group lack experience of working condition in UK. The individual faces
barriers in communication due linguistic differences and therefore are trapped in vicious
cycle of unemployment. In addition, the author has also discussed about the employer's
responsibility of managing youth employment. It is the companies who are restricting
entry of minority group in labour market. In accordance with, this, it is important for the
vent programmers to organise employment programme where the individuals are provided
opportunities to get selected by demonstrating skills and capabilities. Thus, as per the
discussion, it can be outlined that organising employment programmes is the most
beneficial approach which can assist in creating job opportunities for ethnic minority
group (Ingleby, 2012). In addition, it is source which will assist in controlling influence of
socio economic condition of people which will helps in providing stable living condition
to immigrants in UK.
