KS1 Teaching Performance: Evaluating Play-Based Learning Methods

This essay explores the use of play-based learning methods in KS1 education and evaluates the teacher's performance in implementing these strategies. The teacher focuses on fostering socialization and objectivity among students through activities connected to real-world objects, such as measuring water. The approaches used include group tasks to promote collaboration and 'Fun Way Learning,' incorporating water play games to teach math and science concepts. Measurement criteria included grading based on activity performance, team identification, responsibility sharing, and teamwork during competitions. Question 1
Dealing with the kids at the level of KS1 is a challenging yet interesting task. In order to
furnish this task, a teacher is required to have high energy levels and a scientific approach
related to the behavior of the kids. This type of learning thrives best with the help of "play
way learning method (Chatterjee, 2017).” When it comes to describing my performance on
the merit of KS1 Success during the early years I can share my experience in the following
words.
As a teacher, I worked upon my students to bring in a sense of "socialization" among them.
When they realized that someone is going to measure their performance, this fact helped
them in attaining the sense of "subjectivity". Most of the activities conducted by me were
connected to the real world objects, for instance, measurement of the water is something they
observe in day to day life. The selection of the content and the approach of the study helped
them in realizing the sense of "Objectivity."
Approaches
A) The inclusion of group and community tasks in the activity, under this approach, we
are required to divide students into small groups and tell them to divide the tasks for
the accomplishment of the main task (Paolini, 2015).
B) For achieving the goal of delivering scientific and subjective knowledge, we can take
the support of the concept of “Fun Way Learning.” In my case, I added “water play
games” in the curriculum with an objective to teach the concepts of maths and
science.
Measurement Criteria

A) A grading criterion with the help of marks obtained by the students at the end of the
activities was developed. Every problem was awarded one point.
B) Kids started identifying their teams when we called them by the name given to the
team
C) Kids learned the art of responsibility sharing
D) While competing with other teams they learned to play their role in the team.
