Many a times the critical situation brings out the flair that might have not been
discovered by an individual. Even some times we get to learn the ability to manage the difficult
situation after facing the challenges and hurdles in the way to achieve success. Similarly, I have
been learning various measures and ways to mitigate problems and finding proper way out to the
solution after confronting various challenges. I have understood to take preventive measures and
implement tackling strategies to identify the problem, evaluate the risk and solve it accordingly.
The reflective report will show the investigation on the knowledge and experience that can be
gained with the help of the Gibbs model to reflect on the development of the professional
context.
The chosen reflective model is Gibb’s model. It simply acknowledges the personal
feelings that had been influenced or studied by a particular situation. It also shows the impact
and the actions that were reflected during the situation. It breaks down the reflection of the
situation in 6 different stages where first the situation is critically described in brief then into
evaluation of the situation then analyzing and implementing the actions that could be taken in
situation arising in future. This reflection model clearly links the experience with the learning
and the future practices that need to be taken into consideration.
After applying the Gibb’s reflective model to the situation the three main things that have
been learned by me are to gain self confidence and never lose it easily; managing time is the key
to success and communication is another way of motivation.

Lack of self confidence can lead to poor performance and even failure some time. This I
understood from my past experiences that with confidence I can never become a successful
person. Developing self confidence is mandatory rather than making it optional. Self confidence
makes a difference in desire and achieving what I need. It aims to accomplish the dream that I
thought I could never achieve. Self confidence help to choose the right way and make the correct
decisions aligned with desire and values. It will make me productive and help to manage time
wisely. Self confident can boost with the energy that I am confident with my abilities and in
terms of productive (Edison 2016). Leadership quality includes self confidence and confidence
includes being aware of self. Confidences will also a play key role in my ambition of becoming a
successful manager and an honest person in life. It will help me to enhance my leadership skill
and get my goals accomplished. My recent experience in the reflective model I realized that
confidence is more important than my skills and knowledge as it helps me to make difficult
decisions and competent.
Managing time is another factor that I have learnt from PPDI. It is crucial and in my
experience I have learned that it is significantly crucial because time is limited and I have lot to
achieve. Time management will help me to learn to control time and my activities that will also
improve my ability to focus. Increased focus enhances efficiency. Managing is the key to success
and it is wisely clear to me as I have seen that while I manage time I make the correct decision.
Correct decision is termed to those decisions where I eliminate the unnecessary activities and
prioritize the importance task. I understood the difference between important and urgent which is
an essential knowledge I have learned I think. As I made the difference between this both now I
have discover the power of list-making. I also learned that once I learned managing time it will
reduce the process of rushing and pressure instead I started examining the situation and make

decisions carefully. It is to my belief that now I will be able to become a good manager who is
capable of completing the task and beating deadlines much easier.
Communicating with others is important as it helps in building relationship with others. I
also recognized that mastering my ambition it is necessary to build relationship. Building
relationship is promoted by the help of communication. It will let me to establish trust around my
people which will be beneficial for me. Hence, communication is also motivating in nature. It
motivates me to accomplish my goals and do work without hesitant. Communication is also
crucial as it will help me to achieve my dream of becoming a manager. It will help me to serve
the organization where I work in a more effective way such as I can give the employee feedback
on their performance, and then I can build teams. I can encourage the employees to make their
own decision and with my communication skill I can also increase morale, productivity
effectively (Carnegie 2017). Communication skill is also helpful in place where I can manage to
conflicts and help resolve the same. My communicating skill will facilitate a two way dialogue in
executing performance appraisals.
In my life, I have had various opportunities to learn but I never looked into deep with
these skills. However, in my recent experiences I have been learning to manage time which is an
essential skill that I was lacking before. Previously I used to believe there is not much need of
communication with others because I can complete my task with my own capabilities and
knowledge. This is completely wrong and not only communication help in promoting healthy
relation but also enhances the soft skill that is required in future. I also even never focused upon
boosting confidence in me because may be I did not faced such crisis or I did not understood the
importance of it. These three skills are related to each other and are nourished each time the
events take place. The composition of the level of challenge faced is also the main force that

affects the three factors simultaneously. There is a crucial need to arrange these factors and take
control over them each time to resist negativity.
However, with applying the Gibb’s model it has been beneficial to me as I have made
analysis on the situation which helped me to enhance my thinking power and looking over the
situation always from different perspective. Gibb’s reflective cycle states learning by doing
which from my point is what we do in our daily life. We learn from our past mistakes and
achieve the next time when we confront the same. The reflective cycle aims at putting a
challenge in my assumptions. It will help me to explore new thinking power and ideas to manage
such situation in future. It helps in improving self skills and behavior by linking practice and
theories to measure the results that have been applied while tackling the situation.
I believe that gaining new knowledge I will be able to perform my task more efficiently
and effectively. I have learned little knowledge that is essential in daily life. At first managing
time, boosting self confidence and communicating with others. Mixing each of the three factors
in the right proportion will lead me to achievement in any of the situation. It is an expected part
of continuous professional development which is done by the help of self analysis and is useful
to understand the consequences that happened related to the event. I also believe that in the
coming days I will practice actions that will be held to increase my strengths and enhance the
creative part of my life.
From the above discourse it can be concluded that the learning through reflection is an
effective way to understand and enhance the personal and professional development. The chosen
reflective model has enabled me to understand three different skills that have a significant impact
on the decision making. The three factors are self confidence, communication skills that will help

to build interrelations to promote healthy work environment and time management is another
factor that is a key to success. Though I have realized that all the three factors are related to each
other in such manner where they contribute combining and resulting into accomplishment of
success. While applying Gibbs model of reflective cycle it had improved the way to look upon
the situations. It ensures that every situation must be seen, evaluated and then implemented with
the action along with calculating the risk. Learning by doing will help to understand the gaps and
fill them by sharpening the source of acquiring the knowledge.

Assessing self capabilities and ability to nurture the skills it is always recommended to
test self skills and abilities. For this purpose the best fit tools are self assessment or self reflection
that can be used in order to understand the abilities and skills of a person. Every human being is
different in nature and can be affected or has been through different phases of their life. These
phases can leave an individual with negative or positive impacts. In addition, these phases make
us learn the difference between the good decisions and bad decisions which will help to gain
experience in our lives. These experiences are beneficial to make further decision making in such
situation. Using self assessment or self reflection can be helpful to identify the gaps in decisions
that affect the aspects of characters to find way from those situations.
After facing challenges, I have even faced failure at the end and in some I won over my
challenges successfully. However, both the situations made me to learn something or else. I have
figured out various positive and negative features in me that if sharpened and reduced
respectfully can help me to become more effective and efficient in life. In fact the identified
features can help me to further become much stronger than before willing to accomplish the
success factor effectively. Self assessment will help me to understand the features which I am
weak in and then work on them to develop the features which I never looked upon.
While making a purchase decision of a product we analyze the factors that could benefit
us and the factors that is not profit to us. In the same way, analyzing my personality will make
me clearly note down my weaknesses and strengths. Noting down of my strength and
weaknesses will help me to develop and make strong my weaknesses, while sharpen my

strengths and utilize them in the right place. Nobody would like to leave bad impression over
others and for which it s necessary to work on self development.
I have chosen to reflect one of situation with the help of a reflective model named Gibb’s
model. The Gibb’s model was developed by Graham Gibbs which is based upon six stages. It
will help to guide the personal skills and get influence by a previous situation after evaluating
and analyzing and then implementing action plan to overcome the same in the future. I had used
this model because it would help me to reflect my writing in a descriptive way. It will help me to
provide the writing with an evidence of deeper reflection. Gibb’s reflective model is a popular
model of reflection. The below presented is the Gibb’s reflective cycle that includes 6 stages of
reflection. I will use this reflection model to explain one of a small aspect of my life where I had
been identifying my weakness and strength.

Description
It was my first day in my new organization where I was a newly appointed trainee and
was given an assignment to work in a group. The assignment had a deadline and each member to
give their equal contribution. It was my early stage of working life where I had to mainly cope
up with my mates in order to understand the specific task and implement planning accordingly. It

was becoming difficult for me to communicate and understand the task without the help of
others. Communication was one thing I was getting nervous for as I was unable to speak to my
seniors regarding the issues I was facing. Initially I thought could cope up with the work but later
it became challenge to me which I thought I would not be able to overcome. The deadline was
over and I ended up compiling few task which was around 50% of the total task. It was not a
good achievement yet a small effort I believed.
Feelings
They all had experience in understanding the task and requirement of the planning’s that
were to be executed. I was left back in the corner because the piece of task that I was assigned
with was not clear to me and I was lacking confidence in me. I felt depressed and extremely low
confidence and was about to take decisions to resign the job soon, as it was becoming
disorganized for me. I was disappointed with myself as I was not able to give my complete effort
and angry with others as they did not offer help to me which was completely foolishness.
Afterwards I felt that I should have asked for assistance from them as I was facing difficulty.
However, one thing was going on in my mind to leave the job early as possible and try for a job
that would suit my satisfaction.
Evaluation
In this situation I felt that things were not going right. My decision to leave the job was
correct and instead ends up to a simple job where I did not need to face any challenges.
However, the next week another same employee joined who was facing the same problem like
me and I had a conversation with him to encourage him by speaking about own experience. After
the conversation, a tincture of positivity flowed within me. I realized anyone can feel nervous

and so I did. I also noticed that feeling shy to communicate to other members and ask regarding
the issues as I was facing with the understanding of task is a common matter (Hughes 2017).
Analysis
After analyzing the entire situation I concluded that I could have managed the situations
more compactly. I noticed that I lack self confidence instead where I could have tackled the
situation easily if only I had confidence to go and ask anyone for help would have been resulted
into some other situation then. I would have prevented mess with my works if I had the ability to
manage the time accordingly and work efficiently with the flow (Oettingen et al. 2015). I would
have dealt with the situation immediately instead it could have prevented the situation to be
worse. However, in that case the other members could also had come up with the assistance
option rather they questioned me that why was I not able to complete the assigned task.
Conclusion
In retrospect, I would have done the things differently. I should have immediately gone
up to the seniors to clarify my problems. I would not have thought to resign from the job as it
simply means that I was running away from the challenges which simply proved me a coward. I
was searching for a job which suited my comfort which was completely immoral instead I would
have accepted the challenge and blends my skills and knowledge to become successful.
However, I learned that I have the ability to gain competitive and suitably apply the strategies to
develop professional relationship and perhaps avoid such crisis entirely.
