This sermon, titled "A Revived Church: Understand the Times, Rely on Jesus Christ for Power to Evangelize for Souls," explores the importance of spiritual revival in the context of end times. It begins with an introduction highlighting the separation of man from God due to sin and the subsequent reconciliation through Jesus Christ. The sermon then delves into understanding the times, identifying end-time signs, and emphasizing the need to prepare for Christ's coming and rely on His power for evangelism. The sermon draws from key texts such as 2 Kings 18:19-22 and Acts 4:32-33, providing insights into the reigns of various kings, including Uzziah, Jotham, and Ahaz, and their reliance or lack thereof, on God. The sermon concludes with a call to action for the congregation to understand the times and actively participate in evangelism.

SEROMON BY: LORDWIN P.K. ARCHER
TOPIC: A REVIVED CHURCH UNDERSTAND THE TIMES, RELY ON JESUS CHRIST
FOR POWER TO EVANGELISE FOR SOULS
KEY TEXT: 2 KINGS 18:19-22,
Act 4:32- 33
Praise God,
I thank God for giving me this opportunity to minister to his people. I also thank Pastor and presiding
for the trust in me to minister unto them.
INTRODUCTION
Before the fall, God and man had a wonderful relationship of which God communicate with man daily
however sin separated man from God. God regretted creating man in His own image that he never
wanted to have anything to do with man again. However the unfailing love of God brought man to God
through the death of our Lord Jesus Christ. The focus of God was that man will be brought to God
again through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in order for man to avoid the pending
condemnation. Jesus came to the earth to seek and save the lost and after his ascension he gave the
disciples the power to continue snatching sinners from the coming lake fire.
Too often we look at the great power with which the apostles in the early church gave testimony of the
Lord Jesus Christ and the abundant grace which they received from God in their powerful witness, and
bemoan the fact that this is no longer the case today. So what was so different about the inspiring
testimony of the early Church, compared with the ineffectiveness of present-day believers?
Before we will be able to evangelized, we need to understand the times as Christians and rely on Jesus
Christ for the great power to evangelize for souls. At the end of this sermon we must be able to fish for
soul.
Against this background my topic for today sermon is A Revived Church Understand the Times,

Before our key text let’s look at Isaiah 1:1 .what led to the prophet requesting total reliance on God
this morning we want to go to the book of Isaiah to know why God through him caution his people
to rely totally on God
.

Isaiah 1:1 tell us that the prophet prophecy on 4 kings namely Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah
meaning the 66 chapters are the things he saw about Israel on the era of these 4 kings. If you want to
understand the bible very well, chapter 1:1 of every book is very important.
Isaiah means Jehovah is my salvation or the Lord saves.
The bible says he was an intellectual man and also a poet because he dwells in the palace all
his time. If you study the book of Isaiah you will see that he was not ordinary person at all.
Isaiah family is full prophets and this is because
Isaiah father was called Amos.
Prophet Amos too was a farmer and he selects the skin of animals and cut the layers of
tree and sells. Through one of his way to the market that God through him prophesied for the
first time. So Amos was a farmer and Isaiah was a learned. This means that God can use
the illiterate and the learner for his good works.
Isaiah 8:3 says that he had a wife who is also a prophetess.
God gave them 2 children and their names too were prophetic.
One was called Shear – Jashub meaning (a remnant shall return- Isaiah 7:3, Isaiah 10:21)
which means some will return. (All is about the nation going into slavery and after some
time some will return). Do you understand now? So the meaning of the child’s name is a
reminder that they will go to exile because of their sins and after sometime will come back.
The second son is also called Maher –Shalal - Hash – Baz Meaning ntem so asadie ehar so
fom. (Quick to plunder swift to the squall / “Speed-plunder, haste-spoil,”)
You will soon understand why these prophetic names were given to the children. I believe Mrs. Isaiah
will suffer small about mentioning the names of the children as mothers can call the names of their
children more often in a day and she needs to take 10 cups of porridge in the morning before she can
mention their names. Let me say this the 2nd child’s name is the longest name in the bible.
This prophet prophesied in the era of 4 kings and he did that more than 50years. The first king is called
king uzziah.
UZZIAH REIGN
He was also called AZARIAH
Became king at the age of 16years

His father Amaziah was murdered at Lachish southwest of Jerusalem
We remember him of the verse in the death of king uzziah saying I saw the Lord…………
He reigned for 52years
This king had been king for long and at the middle of his reign God through Isaiah prophesies and
because the prophet was close to the palace he helped the king to be in a good kingship. The king
was
rich with a lot of gold and farms
And he was a cheerful giver.
Because Isaiah was at the palace he helped the king in making his reign prosperous .He also used to
give a lot to Isaiah that they became good friends.
In the reign of prophet Isaiah all his prophesies from chapter 1-5 was all about woe unto you. As his
prophecies are of woes, he one day heard that his friend king uzziah is dead.
WHAT LED TO THE KING DEATH?
What led to the death was that while his kingdom was of prominent and peace, he began to lift
himself up and went to the temple to make sacrifices which was to be done by the priest.
So while he was offering the sacrifice the priest came to him and said you are not the one to do
it and as they were engaging him in exchange the hand of God came upon him and he became
leprous. So he was taken away from the palace and quarantine.
After the quarantine his son took over as the king while he was even alive but Isaiah was still in good
relationship with his father uzziah. One day he heard the sudden death of the king who was his friend
so he went to sit under some tree and was mourning his friend king. While he was thinking about his
friend (king uzziah) death, the Lord opened his eyes and he saw the Lord (Isaiah 6) .that’s brings us
to the famous saying in the book of Isaiah that In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord
sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the
seraphim’s: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his
feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD
of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
From there his prophecy changed from woe unto you to woe unto me meaning at first he had not seen
God well though he prophesy and all that he sees was about his people but the day he saw God there he
said woe unto me because I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of
a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts
LESSON: Sometimes you always talk negative about people but when you get to know God well you
will see that you are worse than them. It my prayer that God will reveal himself to you.

THE REIGN OF JOTHAM
Son of Uzziah
Became king at the age of 25years
Jotham reigned for 16years and he did good work for God and the nation but there was something
called high places (sronsron bia) which he couldn’t take it away even his father couldn’t (Asherah poles
or Asherah dua). It was a type of god in Canaan. A higher tree like bamboo which is placed on the high
mountain and flag of different colors is hanged on it. Although king uzziah did a good work for God
but he couldn’t cut it down and his son Jotham too couldn’t and died there his son
AHAZ REIGN
Son of Jotham
A bad king in Jerusalem
Became king at the age of 20years
After the death of Jotham his son Ahaz became the king and reigned for 16years too.
THE ATTACK BY THE SYRIA
There another nation raised against him (Syria) there king Ahaz went to Isaiah and informed him of the
attack. The spirit of God came upon him and told the king in chapter 7:4 TO RELY ON GOD and he
will fight for you.
NOTE: Tell your friend that rely on God and he will fight for you at the fall of thousand and ten
thousand.
But the king seeing the heat of the attack was worried and the prophet told him the sign to which God
will fight for them. Then Isaiah said the Lord himself will give you a sign which is a woman will
conceive and give birth who will be called Emmanuel meaning God is with us – Isaiah 7:14.
,
The prophet import of his message was that if the king rely on God, He (God) himself is with them
and will fight for them in the battle ahead of them.
But the prophecy was in two folds. The present and the future which is Christ Jesus but the king
didn’t give hears to the saying of the prophet because soldiers are coming to attack me and what you
can say is that a woman will conceive and give birth……….I need miracle now and you are telling me
a woman will conceive. She is even yet to conceive

THE KING CALL FOR SUPPORT FROM ASSYRIA
There was a nation called Assyria who was mighty in battle so the king looking at his soldiers and his
fighters decided to go and seek help from this wicked nation Assyria. For them if they battle you and
take control over you they won’t kill you at once but will torture you till you die slowly.
The story of Assyria shows that their king is so wicked that his legs become a table for the slaves in
his land.
These are the same people who sinned against the Lord that it climb up to God that He told Jonah to go
and caution them to repent.
That brings us to the story of Jonah but that is not the focus of my sermon.
So king Ahaz decided to go and give Assyria king money to help him against his enemies in battle and
Within that period Isaiah wife was pregnant and God instructed him (Isaiah) to name the child
Maher –Shalal - Hash – Baz Meaning ntem so asadie ehar so fom. (Quick to plunder to swift
quell / “speed the spoil, hasten the booty”) so that as the child walk about and his name is being
called by his name it will remind the people of Israel that if you run to get everything quick you
will swift to surrender. But all these king Ahaz didn’t listened. Assyria helped him with their soldiers
but when they were coming they came with their god called Moloch.
They said if your god could not help you then you will worship our god called Moloch who only
needs children as sacrifice. At the end king. Ahaz used his own children as sacrifice to god Moloch (2
kings 16, 2 chronicle 28).
So the god was brought to Jerusalem at valley of Hinnom and the god was design like (Yawa) and fire
is set under that if you go for sacrifice you will put your child into the opened hand of the gods for the
fire to consume the child. The priest to the god realized that when the child cries their mother grieved
so they drew a strategy of playing a drum to over shadow the cry of the child and the book of Jeremiah
talk more about it. They later named the place Tophet because of the drum.
All these went on in most of the reign of the king till the time of Josiah who God through him defeated
the gods and made a decree for the place to be used as a refuse dump. But because the place was used
for sacrifice with fire, the fire was still under the refuse dump. That Tophet is called Hinnom so when
Jesus came in the NT and told them that all sinners would be thrown into the lake of fire which
quenches not, then the people said then it’s like that of the Hinnom valley fire so it was later called
Gehenna by the Greek.

A BIBLICAL STUDY ABOUT PEOPLE WHO RELIED ON JESUS CHRIST AND THE
RESULT
KING HEZEKIAH REIGN
Son of Ahaz
One of the best king in Israel
He became king at the age of 25years
So after 16years of reign he died and his son Hezekiah came to rule and decided to exempt himself
from that god but he couldn’t so he went to Isaiah for direction. Isaiah told him also TO RELY ON
GOD so after he decided to consult Egypt and Babylon to help him to fight against Assyria and free
themselves from their idol worship. So he went again to Isaiah to seek his counsel which the answer
was still the same THAT RELY ON GOD so Isaiah 30 and 31 talk more about it. So Isaiah said king
don’t worry about Assyria because very soon they will fall. The people of Assyria realized that king
Hezekiah doesn’t want to worship their god so he wrote a letter to him to warn him against the
strike. The letter frightened him to the extent that he took the letter to the temple and prayed. There
Isaiah prophesied that, God has decided to help him. When he relied on God he (God) used one angel
to kill 185,000 soldiers of Assyria.
Tell your brother rely on God.
Some members and leaders can’t even rely on God that not alone taking the whole church before God.
When a problem comes he hire car and take the members to prayer camp. Elder rely on God for
he will do it.
The issue of the witch and the communion. Beloved rely on God for he will do it.
The prophecy of God through Isaiah was about King Hezekiah sickness and death but when the king
relied on God and went before him in prayers God listened to him. Beloved once again rely on
God.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE RELY ON JESUS CHRIST IN THIS END TIME?
He gives us the great power
WHAT IS THE GREAT POWER?
We leave in the unpresented age of power. Power may be defined as the ability or capacity to do
something. The word “power” here denotes “efficacy,” or the ability to accomplish anything of value,
and means that they had “ability” given them to bear witness of the resurrection of the Saviour. It
refers, therefore, I rather to their preaching than to their miracles. Even politician know that power
can make them do exploit so they fight with their last blood to get it how much more we the
children of God.

WHAT ARE THE HINDRANCES TO END TIME EVANGELISM
1. Sin – Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will
save both yourself and your hearers.(1 timothy 4:16)

5. Lack of the Holy Spirit power which brings fortification – Matthew 12:29- how can one go to
the strong man’s house…….

Beloved heaven will be a better place because of the following experience we will have
• No longer sea, sun, No more crying, pains, death
• All things made, No longer any night, cures
• We will see God face to face, Deformation will be restored
• We will have a body that is material flesh and bone body without blood
• We will have a body where our personal identity will be preserved
• We will not be thirsty for the water of life will proceed from the throne of God and upon seeing it
We will be quenched of thirst.

only option for eternity so let us prepare and be ready to meet our God (Amos 4:12)
So looking at the above we must show love for the lost so that we can all go to heaven.
God bless us all.
