Event management focuses on development or creation of festivals, concerts, ceremonies,
conference, formal parties, and weddings. However, the event concept is developed based on the
target audience. Event can be specific to the country, region, and city. The culture, religion and
social lifestyle of the people of a particular region are executed by the events (Getz 2017). This
study deals with the impact of event management on the Sydney, which is a popular city in the
Australia. Sydney is a dynamic and multicultural city as people from different religions; cultures
and ethnic background live here together. Many immigrants come to Sydney in every year that
highlights the cultural diversity in this region. This place is popular for tourism. On the other
hand, exhibition, concert, sports, conference events, film festival and product launch events are
very common in Sydney.
Events are various types one of the most important is the mega event. The Mega event
leaves a significant impact on the economic, social and cultural environment of a particular
country or a region. Sports events are the good example of the mega event (Kurniati 2016). In
Sydney NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final, Emirates Australian Open Golf and Sydney
International Tennis have taken place, which are popular sports events. Hallmark events refer
to the cultural events or major fairs. However, tourism events are the common examples of
hallmark events. Often the sporting events also categorized into the hallmark events. This type of
event occurs on regular basis or in a specific season. As for example, Pyrmont is a popular fair
festival of Sydney that continuous for 15 days. Various types of wines and foods are present in
this festival. Therefore, the visitors can taste the fruits of Mudgee regions in this festival
(Australia.gov.au).
Community events refer to the event that includes health events to increase health
awareness among the public (Stevens 2016). In Sydney, many health event programs are

occurred to increase the awareness regarding the different health issues. Business event refers to
the conference events. In Sydney, business event is a common thing as it is the central part of
Australia and enriched with many industries. As for example, electronic music conference and
red gift fairs are the popular business events in Australia. Such business events in Australia
highlight the economic strength of the business. Culture is the base of a country and cultural
event show respect to the people of a particular country or a particular region. Through the
cultural events, the belief, arts, values and social behavior of the people of a specific region can
be exhibited. Sydney is considered as the Australia’s cultural hub. One of the major cultural
festivals of Sydney is Biennale of Sydney, which is a contemporary arts festival. This festival
held for three months in Sydney (Australia.gov.au). Such festival focuses on the different
cultures, values, and beliefs of the people.
Event is a crucial part of the country or a region. However, the event industry acts as the
representative of a country and they represent the value, culture, and tradition of a particular
region (Holt 2017). In the context of Sydney, it is a multicultural city thus, the event industry
focuses on the various cultural beliefs. The event industry of Sydney is a significant part of the
Australian economy. The event industry is a good contributor of Australian economy. The event
industry in Sydney organizes a business conference, sports, trade fair, business events, cultural
and community events. However, Sydney is considered as the premier city for the various
events. This city ends every year and opens every new-year with the renowned event. Sydney is
always buzzing with festivals. Season does matter in this region as the event industry always
makes this region crowded and charming with various events. The event industry in Sydney
knows how to organize a party in the public holiday, which makes the people of the city joyful.
However, organizing events in a region develops the social lifestyle of the people (Kim and

Dombrosky 2016). Different sports events and concert in Sydney will be helpful to enhance the
funding of this region. Conduction of a mega event in Sydney will raise the profile of this city
and lead them to get an economic benefit (Economicshelp.org 2017). In the year 2000 Olympic
was held in Sydney that contributes a large proportion of Australian economy (Australia.gov.au).
Therefore, long-term investment comes from the mega-events, which also creates jobs for the
people in Sydney. On the other hand, the creation of major sports event will be beneficial for the
Sydney as it generates enthusiasm and excitement among the people. Therefore, sports events
help to promote civic virtues by rising volunteerism.
Event tourism refers to the event that is organized to attract the tourists in a region. Mega
sporting events organize in a specific season and specific timing to enhance the economy of the
country (Kasprzak 2017). Sporting events also attract the tourists of a particular region. In
Sydney, sporting events are helpful to strengthen the economy of this city as foreigners come to
visit the sports in Sydney. As for example, Rugby League Grand Final is organized in Sydney
in September (Atn.com.au 2017). This event enriches the fund in this location. However,
development of the economy also leads the people of Sydney to get more jobs as a result
employment rate increases. Therefore, tourism events also help this city to gain economic
sustainability.
Social and cultural development is associated with events in a particular region.
However, in Sydney, a Sydney festival is held in January that is a combination 80 events include
film, theatre, dance, music, virtual arts and large-scale free outdoor events (Australia.gov.au).
Approx 500 artists come from the different regions of Australia and abroad
(Greekfestivalofsydney.com.au 2017). Such event is significant for the inclusion of different
cultures as many people from different regions come to the event that enhances cultural

diversity. Therefore, the social lifestyle of the people can be improved by focusing the values
and ethics of the different cultures. On the other hand, Greek Festival of Sydney is the most
popular and one of the largest annual cultural events. Approx 30,000 people come to visit this
event. This festival focuses on the Greek and Australian lifestyle, heritage, and culture that
combine these two cultures and reflect on the multicultural nature. However, such cultural events
cause social inclusion in Sydney and bring people together. As a result, people of one culture
understand the culture and values of other cultures.
Tourism events play an important role in the development of the environmental
sustainability (Holden 2016). Taronga Zoo is situated in Sydney, which is large Zoo and divided
into different regions. A large wild life is associated with this Zoo. New Year's Eve is held in
this Zoo, which is a big tourist attraction in this place. However, due to the huge demand of the
tourist, the authority of this Zoo improves the infrastructure that ensures the environmental
sustainability. In order to increase the tourist's attraction, the environmental resources are
protected in a particular region that highlights the environmental sustainability. Revitalization
takes place as a part of environmental development. In Torango Zoo to get the concentration of
the tourists this region is developed day by day, which ensures the environmental sustainability
in Sydney by conducting tourism events.
The above piece of work highlights the types and importance of the events in the context
of Sydney. However, it has been found that sporting events play an important role in the
development of the economy of a country. Therefore, tourism event is crucial to develop the
culture and social lifestyle of the people. People get a new idea by observing the different
cultures. Therefore, environmental sustainability can be achieved by the tourism event through
the protection of wild life.
