INTRODUCTION
Global events includes various sports tournaments, world cups, famous singer visits to
other countries, etc. which are managed by some event professionals and financed by some
sponsors and hosts. Role of global event is increasing as it provide many economic, social and
cultural benefits (Bladen, Kennell and Wilde, 2012). This report is based on dynamics, nature
and development of global events. It include diversity of global events and also includes the
factors that have influenced the development of event industry. An evolution of value, impacts
and legacy of range of global events is also included together with its impacts on environment in
which they operates. This assignment also includes specific management strategies used to
deliver responsible events. This report also comprises of impact of global events at different
levels of environment.
TASK 1
P1) Diversity of global events industry including its structure and organisation
An event is basically a public assembly or gathering for the purpose of sports
programmes, education, celebration, marketing or any kind of reunion. Global events are having
a wide range of diversity or scope which includes different international gatherings and
programmes. These events can be classified on the basis of their size, form or content which are
described as follows:
Types of events on the basis of their size
different types of evens on he basis of their size are as follows:
Local or community events- These are the planned gathering of local people or any
specific community which at a small or local level mainly consists of 50 or more people (Bowdin
and O'Toole, 2012). Examples of local events can include community festivals, or a social
gathering for discussing some issues, etc. These local events are either conducted or host by local
authority or members of community and some time with the help of any local event management
organisation. The structure of these events are quite simple and generally the task and role of
different members are clearly defined for proper organisation of work and events.
Major events- These are mainly held at city or national level likely to generate vehicular
traffic capable of occupying more than the aggregate number of visitors. These events are
generated by authorised development or event management organisation to provide best services

to visitors. Proper traffic and safety plans are also developed and these events are mainly
organised at centre place or location of a country which is easily approachable. These events are
held at national level thus, having a little complex structure which require proper planning and
coordination for organising successful event.
Hallmark events- These are the major fairs, cultural, sporting and expositions events at
international level which provide huge opportunity to host to prominence in tourism market.
These events are mainly organised by tourist company or tourist department of nation to promote
any particular area to increase the number of visitors which provide more foreign reserve and
lead to growth of nation. Simple organisational structure is followed to foster better relations and
sustainable tourism (Camarinha-Matos, Afsarmanesh and Rabelo, 2013).
Mega events- These events are mainly one time sporting events at international scale
organised by a special authority which yields high level of media coverage and a significant
impact on development of society. Best examples of mega events are Olympic events, held in
different countries and sponsor and host by many big organisation like protector and gamble,
general electrics, etc. Huge amount of funds and labour is required to organise mega events and
properly coordinated structure of work is followed.
Types of events on the basis of form or content
Cultural events- These events are representative of specific cultural or art and are
organised by some group of artists or by local government to promote knowledge about cultural
diversity and build peace and reconciliation in among society.
Sports events- A sports event is mainly a multiple days program featuring competition
among different sports teams. These sports events are mainly organise by event management
organisation which are sponsored by big companies as it require huge funds and proper planing
and section of venue as per the tournament. The main purpose of this event is to promote a sport
and healthy lifestyle in society (Getz and Page, 2016).
Music events- These events mainly include live performance of signing stars and
instrument playing that is often presented with a musical genre like jazz, classical, etc. The
concerts are mainly organised by famous music companies like world fusion events and world
music institute, etc. for promotion of music arts and also provide publicity to sponsors.
Business events- These events are mainly organised by business associates or firm which
can include a formal networking event, product launch event, seminars or even charity event to

increase goodwill and brand image of an organisation. Mainly event management organisation is
appointed to properly organise a business event which should meet the main targets of objective.
These events plays a signifiant role in developing good and healthier habits in society.
Sports events make society aware about positive impacts of playing a sports and motivate them
to plays sports. Music and cultural events provided protection to local arts and artists and make it
famous across the world. Business events are also useful for society as it provide all the relevant
information about business operations and provide motivation to young entrepreneurs to become
more successful.

There are different factors which has lead to a growth and rapid development of event
industry at global level as well as local level which are explained below:
At global level
At global level, event industry is providing following benefits which has lead to increase
in its role and development:
Economic growth- Global events are helpful in increasing growth rate of a nation as
provide higher investment and foreign visitors which increase scope of tourism and
provide better growth opportunity for a nation to become more economically stable.
Increase in tourism sector also increase tax revenue of government thus, lead to better
growth (Howard and Mathews, 2013). These positive factors of event industry encourage
government for providing better opportunity for development of global industry. Develop better relation at global level- Global events or programmes has facilitated a
more effective integration and collaboration among different nation which is useful in
creating a healthier and peaceful relation among different nation of world thus, reduces
the chances of war among nations. Thus, efforts are made for development of event
industry to establish better relation at global level.
At local level
Following benefits are provided by global events at local level which has influenced the
growth of event industry:
Creation of employment- A large number of labours are required for performing various
task of an event, thus, global level event has created new job opportunity for local people.

Hence society is also in favour of global events which created a better base for
development of global event industry (Jepson and Clarke, 2014).
Protection of local culture- Cultural and heritage events played an important role in
protection of local arts and cultures through making it famous at global level. Charitable
events are also organised by NGO and other agencies to full fill basic needs of society.

As global events are playing important role in development of society both at local and
global level thus, government is providing better opportunity for development of global event
industry. A change in trend of society has made people more aware about their culture and arts,
thus new scope is created for event industry to grown and expand. New generation is also more
found towards sports thus, sports events are also becoming more famous (Li and McCabe, 2013).
Key factors that have influenced the development, structure and organisation of event
industry
Following are the factors that has lead to a change in structure and organisation of event
industry and also influenced its development:
Technology- Advancement in technology has lead to a considerable change in structure
and organisation of industry as it has increased competition level and desires of customers thus,
it become necessary for event industry to make use of latest technology to attract more customers
and visitors.
Globalisation- It has foster the development of global event industry as it has provided
better integration and transfer of views, person, etc. across the border thus, increase the scope of
global event as it become easier to organise a event at some other country (Moberg and Eriksson,
2013).
Following two factors has provide wider scope for event industry through creating better
opportunity but at the same time event management organisation has to made changes in its
structure and polices to meet the demands of customers and also need to balance with new
technology.

Global event is having following short term and long term impact on different factors:
Social and cultural- Global events has created positive impact on social and cultural
factors as it plays an important role in protection of society and culture. Various types of heritage
and cultural events are organised by global event industry to promote various arts and culture at
international level providing a long term benefits to society. Charitable events plays a crucial
role in meeting the short term needs of society through fulfilling basics needs of poor and other
economical weaker section. In long term, it lead to generation of equality in society. But
sometimes content of global event can create negative impact on society as if any famous singer
or actors which are using any kind of drugs or medicine can attract society for doing same
(Morrison,2013).
Physical and environmental- Global events are helpful in creating physical and
environmental awareness in individual of society thus, makes people concern about environment
which leads to a reduction in environmental degradation. Thus, in short term it is making people
aware about importance of sustainable development and in long term it is protecting environment
from hazardous impacts of society.
Political- Global events can have negative impact on political atmosphere as some time
political parties may have issues with the content or form of event which can lead to political
disturbance in a nation.
Tourism- Hallmark events plays an important role in attracting more tourist through

diversity. The contribution or value of global events at different level is explained below:
At national level- Global events are very valuable in establishing positive and healthier
relation between two or more countries which lead to an increase in tourism thus, increase
foreign reserve of nation and also provide better revenue to government which lead to overall
economic growth (Qi, Smith and Yeoman, 2019).
At regional level- New job opportunities are created by global events at regional events.
Hallmark and mega events require a large number of human resource to perform different task
thus, creates more jobs for people at regional level and reduce problem of unemployment in
economy.
At local level- Global events plays a crucial role in protection of local arts and culture.
Different heritage and cultural events are their which are very valuable for promotion of arts and
culture thus, providing better lifestyle and opportunity to local artists (Raj, Walters and Rashid,
2017).
Thus it can be evaluated that global events plays a crucial role at all level of economies.
Event Legacy
Legacy of event is basically denotes the long term positive impact it has on culture,
economic and physical improvement of host area. Global events provide a base through which
awareness can be created in society, among stakeholders and other individuals. Global events
industry has created awareness about sustainable development through conducting various
events like save water save tree, pollution free environment, etc. which lead to plantation of more
tree and adoption of methods and operations which will create least negative effect on
environment. Stakeholders of events include individuals and groups inside and outside the
organization that have some direct or indirect interests in event's planning, productions and
implementation. Global event industry aim at maintaining a balance a between needs of
stakeholders and sustainable development through making use of such tools and techniques
which are result oriented but at same time does not harm the nature and society. Various business

P4) Management strategies used to support responsible event development
A responsible event is the one which promotes sustainable growth of planet and all the
protective action to promote local as well global environmental, social and economic
development. It is the responsibility of event organiser that they should meet different
stakeholder's interest and expectations. Stakeholders includes all the individual and groups which
are having any direct or indirect interests in events like event owner, management company,
sponsors, partners, funders, investors and participant. It is the responsibility of global event
industry to take proper safety measures and proper plans should be made to address traffic and
parking issues mainly faced by all stakeholders during events. Proper supply of electricity and
other tools is also necessary for organising a responsible event. Use of following management
techniques are made to support responsible event development:
Corporate environmental management model (CEM)- This model is used for
maintaining corporate sustainability in event through providing a special focus on environmental
issues. This model is ideal for maintaining a proper interaction and collaboration between
objectives of stakeholders and environment. This model support responsible event development
through developing new capabilities which enhance competitive strategy and incorporate
environmental objectives through responding market opportunities and social demands (Rogers,
2013).
Balance scorecard- It provide a framework for proper implementation and management
of different strategy. It provides a link between strategic objectives, measures, initiative and
targets which helps in creating balance between finical measures with performance measures
which helps in achievements of objectives. Balance scorecard is a basically a performance
management tool which is used for evaluation of overall performance of events and it also
maintain a control over various activities to check whether objectives of stakeholder are met or
not and also provides emphasis on sustainable development. Thus, it is a useful management tool
for development of responsible event which keeps a balance between stakeholder's objectives
and environmental issues.
Government plays an important role in development of responsible event. Various rules
and regulations are implemented by government for protection of environment that have

event industry to maintain sustainable development and environmental protection strategy which
lead to development of responsible event which is fulfilling objectives of different stakeholders
and at the same time, due concern and importance is provide to environment safety (Rzevski and

Technology advancement and globalisation has created significant change in structure and
