INTRODUCTION
Evidence based practices can be defined as use of clinical procedures which has evidence by
research to gain appropriate findings. It includes several clinical practices which has expertise
opinion and clinically proved to be effective for specific health problem (Callejas, Byrne and
Rodrigo, 2018). However, it is observed that evidence based practices has few of important
elements like best external evidence, individual practitioner’s clinical expertise and patients
preferences respectively. Tackling neglect & abuse refers to set of procedures and practices to
solve the problem of neglect and abuse among patient in health and social care settings (Moore,
2016). It includes the criterion of formulating strict policies and practices which should be
followed by care professionals while dealing with sick people. Basically, it consist the fact that
medical practitioners are responsible for ensuring that patient will not face any kind of harm,
neglect or abuse in hospital care settings. It is required for higher authority and management of
healthcare organisations to establish an appropriate feedback desk of an escalation system to gain
knowledge about such aspects if happened in hospital. In context of this project, it will focus on
roles of researchers regarding evidence based practices and tackling neglect & abuse in health
care settings. It will also include legislations in regards to neglect and abuse to increase
satisfaction of patients. The proposal of research related to neglect & abuse having target
population of adult living with dementia and children with autism is given below.

Purpose and process of conducting evidence based practice research
The evidence based practice includes the purpose of providing the most effective care which is
available in hospital settings. It includes the reason to identify more effective as well as efficient
clinical methods appropriate to deal with specific health problem. Meanwhile, it includes to gain
evidence about particular process of treatment for making accurate decision of providing
effective care for wellbeing of an individual (Wangmo, Nordström and Kressig, 2017). The
evidence based practice has a research process including several steps which are mentioned here.
It includes to start with assessment of clinical decision which is required by considering various
aspects including ask, acquire, appraise, apply and audit respectively. Initially, it is necessary to
concert the data need into an answerable clinical question accordingly. Secondly, it is required to

focus on tracking down the best evidence for answering the specific question (Drury and et. al.,
2017). Thirdly, it includes the criterion of critically appraising evidence for validity, impact and
applicability. However, it is observed that integrated the evidence into your own clinical decision

used to be analysed in order to gain appropriate findings respectively. Meanwhile, it has been
analysed that literature review can be considered as an important part of carrying out
investigation which impact on accuracy of findings of respective study. It is observed that
number of skills and qualities are required for research in terms of gaining access to authenticate
publications related to particular research problems (Katz, Courtney and Novotny, 2017). It
includes the required quality of reading and analysing data from various articles for collection
more accurate information which facilitate to achieve accurate outcomes. However, it involves
the desired skill of writing a coherent narrative which is responsible for synthesizing the sources
of information founded, read as well as analysed.
Analysis of own skills and knowledge to conducting a literature review
Considering my own skills regarding literature review, it has been analysed that I am much
capable to gain access to authentic research articles available on internet. It includes the
capabilities of selecting some articles which are more related and reliable for my research topic
are selected (Havlicek and Courtney, 2016). After selecting few of relevant articles, I have read
them all and make connect with my own research problem in order to analyse the main facts in
proper manner. My personal view of conducting literature review and findings article to prefer
recent articles like which are published in last five years for maintain authenticity of collected
data as well as relevant findings in appropriate manner.

The main skills of carrying out ethical research the proper knowledge about various ethical
principles and factors that are required to be followed during the whole investigation. It includes
the another significant aspects to gain knowledge about those technique through which all the
ethical principles can be followed to conduct the study in more appropriate manner. However, it
includes to consider honesty, trustworthiness, confidentiality, informed consent, beneficence,
justice etc. which are helpful to conduct study in ethical manner (Allroggen and et. al., 2017). It

review

their satisfaction level. Basically, neglect can be consider the situation when care professionals
work with negligence or irresponsibility due to which appropriate delivery of care facilities get
failed which influence the treatment outcomes of the accordingly. However, the neglect can be
divided into several categorise like physical neglect, medical neglect, educational and emotional
neglect (Rahamim and Mendes, 2016). In additional to this, it has been analysed that abuse
refers to a specific attempt which is responsible for having bad impact on other person. It
includes that different types abuse such as physical abuse, domestic abuse, sexual abuse,

psychological or emotional abuse, financial, or material abuse, modern slavery, discrimination
abuse, cultural or identity abuse and organisational abuse. Moreover, it is necessary eliminate
both neglect and abuse from care homes for improving effectiveness of treatment facilities and
patient outcomes.
Legislation around neglect and abuse
Legislations are required to be established for eliminating factor of neglect and abuse among
people for improving health condition of patients. There are number of legislation re available to
reduce neglect and abuse against vulnerable people in which some of them are given here.
However, it includes the Poor Law Amendment Act 1868, Children Act 1889 and safeguarding
regulations which are required to be followed in every health care organisation to make sure
safety of patients while providing treatment to them (Luckock, Barlow and Brown, 2017). In
addition to this, it has been evaluated that Poor Law Amendment Act 1868 has criterion to
eliminate illegal attempt of neglect and abuse among vulnerable people in the country. It is
necessary for every care professionals carefully ensure about safety of their patients and put
efforts to remove neglect and abuse effectively.
Mention types or forms of abuse
The abuse can be defined to have different types of harming and individual by attempting in
differentiated manner. It includes the mainly physical, emotional and psychological abuse which
is mostly occurred with people in the society while seeking for healthcare facilities. However,
there are number of others abuses from which people can also get suffered such as domestic
abuse, sexual abuse, financial or economic abuse, modern slavery, neglect, organisational abuse
and many more (Lum, Powell and Snow, 2018). It is observed that physical, emotion and
psychological abuse is mostly observed in care homes from which vulnerable adults get suffered
in the nation. It has been analysed that some of care professionals are responsible for attempting
sexual abuse with patients as they gain profit of their forcedness which impact negatively on
their treatment outcomes. it may also develop long term consequences on life of an individual
from which they never cope up easily.
Prevalence of neglect and abuse
In context of neglect and abuse, it has been analysed that the prevalence of neglect & abuse is
mostly observed in children because they are not able to understand and explain whatever

happened with them. It includes the circumstances when children are suffering from
psychological problem like autism or depression then they are at high risk of abuse because they
are not that much fearless to share easily about the abuse to their parents. However, the
prevalence of neglect and abuse includes the statistics that 17 % of emotional neglect, 34 % of
physical abuse, 24 % of sexual abuse, 13 % of emotional abuse and 12 % of physical neglect is
observed which impact negatively on health condition of vulnerable individuals (Blakemore and
et. al., 2017).
Current strategies to tackling neglect and abuse
The tackling neglect and abuse strategies should be established and make sure that they are
applied appropriate in care homes for welfare of patients. It includes various effective strategies
in which some of them are mentioned here. Initially, it consist the strategy of formulating
effective legal punishments for care professionals who has attempted abusive behaviours due to
which it can be reduced in care homes among vulnerable people (Dubowitz, 2017). However, it
involves the criterion of hospital management to remain strict against those professional who are
responsible for neglect and abuse with patient so that fear factor will be developed then such
negative factors will be eliminated from care homes.
Summary of current knowledge about neglect and abuse
The neglect and abuse presence is a sign of the fact that medical staff is not trained properly and
lack of knowledge encourage them to do so. It is necessary for people remain aware about
neglect behaviour and file complaint against them from legal bodies to reduce the same.
However, it is observed that vulnerable groups are at high risk of abuse due to their forcedness
which are required to be removed from healthcare settings by efforts of citizens.
Evaluation of reliability and validity of literature review
Considering the literature, it has been analysed that the information was gathered from the recent
articles published recently which has accurate data. It is favourable to collect more accurate
information from reviewing views of various authors in order to gain respective findings.
However, the literature review has high reliability because of its accuracy due to which
respective findings are also considered as accurate that can be used for future perspectives
(Moore and Browne, 2017). It is much valid due to gathering of appropriate data which is helpful

Introduction
The rationale of this project is to evaluate cause of abuse and neglect along vulnerable adults in
Redbridge care homes. It is necessary to identify actual cause so that effective strategies and
regulations can be formulated to securing the selected group of from any kind of abuse, harm and
neglect. However, the rationale of this study is to establish appropriate policies and practices to
improve safeguarding of vulnerable adults in Redbridge care homes. Neglect and abuse can be
defined as a kind of harmful attempts which impact negatively on physical and psychological
state of an individual. It includes that wrong activities which influence the health of an individual
intentionally then these are known as abusive activities. Meanwhile, it is observed that abuse can
be of different types such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and emotional abuse.
However, the abuse and neglect can be considered as potential factors that can threaten the
emotional, physical and mental state of an individual (Maguire-Jack and Showalter, 2016). It is
observed that abuse can be identified by the help of several symptoms including multiple
bruising, fractures, burns, bed sores, fear, depression, unexplained weight loss, assault etc. It is
necessary to make effective as well as efficient policies in care homes eliminate threat of abuse
and neglect for delivering better quality of care facilities to vulnerable adults. Moreover, the
abuse and neglect must be eliminated because it can results into long term consequences like re-
victimisation, physical health issues, suicidal behaviour, eating disorder & obesity, alcohol &

substance abuse and many more. It is necessary for care professionals to take care that activities
related to neglect and abuse should be eliminated in care homes.
Background
In respect of this study, it is based on the aim of tacking neglect and abuse among vulnerable
adults in care homes in the London borough of Redbridge. It includes the criteria to focus on
abuse happened with vulnerable adults to identify them in order to eliminate this threat form the
selected care home. This project is based on the Redbridge care home which has been established
to deliver desired medical facilities in order to fulfil actual healthcare needs of people. It includes
the clinical practice to fulfil healthcare requirements of people with various diseases including
vulnerable adults in the borough. However, this investigation will focus on causes behind neglect
and abuse in healthcare along with strategies which are helpful to eliminate these negative
factors (Nassiri and et. al., 2016). It will also include the desired roles of care professionals in
terms of avoiding neglect and abuse in care homes with vulnerable adults.
Aim

Redbridge care homes in Lambeth.

Methods
Qualitative research method will be used in this investigation because it is favourable to
understand the specific research problem in deep manner by analysing the relevant opinions. It
includes the utilisation of semi structured techniques which are helpful to carry out the overall
process of research in terms of gaining inaccurate findings. Basically, this project will focus on
the descriptive research design which is suitable to gather more accurate as well as detailed

information related to selected research problems. It is helpful to analyse the appropriate data
which will provide support to boost up the accuracy of the study and respective findings.
However, it has been analysed that the inductive research approach will be used for this
investigation which is beneficial for to process the patterns of observation to study the opinions
to formulate effective conclusions. It involves the use of inductive approach in respect of
narrowing the scope of the study (Harris and White, 2018). In addition to this, this research will
going to consider the effective method of interpretivism philosophy which requires to interpret
the elements of the study as it is responsible for integrating human interest into the investigation.
These research methods and designs are much effective as well as efficient to conduct study on
tackling neglect and abuse among vulnerable adults in Redbridge to attain appropriate outcomes.
Data collection method includes the use of primary and secondary data with the help of using
relevant sources of data collection. This project will focus on use of primary and secondary
sources in order to gather information related to tackling neglect and abuse among vulnerable
adults. However, primary sources includes number of methods like questionnaire, interviews,
focus group, observations etc. from which questionnaire is used in this research to collect
information with the help of opinions of participants. The secondary consist number of methods
such as books, journals, articles, websites, magazines and many more, the secondary sources are
used for carry out effective as well as efficient literature review by analysing views of different
authors about respect topic of the study. This assignment will focus on questionnaire to carry out
data analysing to interpret respective findings accordingly.
Random sampling method will be used for this project because it simple and fast method of
recruiting desired respondents to formulate an appropriate sample group. It is favourable to gain
desired participants with required inclusion criterion which helps to collect accurate data.
Data analysis can be defined as an important procedure carried out to clean, transforming and
modelling information for discovering the useful data for making appropriate decision. It
includes the criterion of analysing the facts and findings related to tackling neglect and abuse for
interpreting the accurate findings respectively (Freisthler and et. al., 2017). In context of this
project, it will going to utilise the thematic analysis in which number of themes will be
formulated based on the research problems in terms of making effective interpretation of the
respective findings.

Ethical considerations can be considered as an important aspect which should be followed by
researcher because it will facilitate to direct the entire study in correct direction. It is necessary to
consider ethical principles at the time of carrying out different procedures and activities of the
investigation which increase the reliability of the same. However, it is required to follow the
principle of maintaining confidentiality which is very important to secure privacy of participants
that improve their comfort level to provide their opinion accurately. It involves number of other
ethical factors such as informed consent, honesty, justice, trustworthiness and many more. In this
project, the research considers all the ethical and legal requirements for making their study
appropriate reliable. It is helpful to make findings more accurate to be applied for future
perspectives.
Timeline refers to formulating an effective schedule to carry out different activities of
investigation in correct manner. It is helpful to conduct these procedures one by one in correct
sequence which impact positively to complete the investigation on time with proper study.
However, it includes the utilisation of an appropriate Gantt chart which is an efficient tool for
research to make accurate schedule of research activities in terms of carrying out them properly.
It includes the information about those which are connected to other and they must be conducted
