Discussion
Neuropathic pain treatment is likely the most challenging type of pain experienced by a
patient considering its highly subjective nature. However, it affects a significant fraction of the
patients affected by chronic pain, as it results from the neurological damage that persistent pain
has on the patient's brain (Xu, Zhang, & Huang, 2016). The development of highly effective
therapies is thus necessary to alleviate the pain of the patients and considerably improve their
quality of life. Useful sources to look for information about the most updated knowledge about
neuropathic pain treatment and the efficiency of these therapies include, for example, medical
databases as PubMed. The location of this source as the first source to look for information about
the evidence-based practice approaches to handling neuropathic pain is that it allows searching
for the most updated information on the treatment of neuropathic pain. The other sources, on the
contrary, provide useful guidelines about demonstrated techniques useful in the treatment of
neuropathic pain but do not necessarily represent the latest discoveries in the field of its

medicine. The guidelines published by the WHO’s, the National Institute for Health and Care
Excellence, and the American Pain Society represent a valuable starting point with which to start
treating the neuropathic pain in the patient while searching for any newly discovered proven
alternative to these methods by using the PubMed database. Besides these guidelines, websites of
institutions dedicated to supporting patients suffering from chronic pain as the Pain News
Network provide valuable information about how to best address the therapy, as well as useful
tips that may complement and increase its efficiency.
Communication strategies:
Communication is one of the most efficient tool while educating someone. Being a
supervisor, it is responsibility of the nurse to educate or provide training to the new nurse to
ensure best patient care. To provide best patient care, it is important to have proper knowledge
of the diagnosis which can be achieved through proper research. The nurse should be encouraged
by providing proper education. The supervisor should communicate with the nurse by applying
knowledge of verbal and written communication (Tulsky et al., 2017). To encourage the nurse,
the supervisor should use honest dialogue about the effectiveness of the diagnosis. The
supervisor should use different voice modulation in order to enhance their understanding. It will
also make them understand that it will enhance their professional knowledge for future and will
help in providing better care to the patient who has been suffering from neuropathic pain. They
should use visual representation such as, evidence in form or graphs and charts for better
understanding. The nurse should also be encouraged to collaborate with other nurses that helps in
accessing the resources. In order to do that, the awareness regarding the benefits of collaboration
is created among the nurse by the help of face to face communication and also the employee
meeting is to be conducted. The nurse should also be educated about the communication

strategies that assist in building professional relationship with the other nurse such as,
conducting meetings and usage of positive communication skill (Lavin, Harper & Barr, 2015).

In order to provide best patient care to the patient, it is important to gather efficient
knowledge from the different resources (Green & Thorogood, 2018). In this case, the nurse
should use the Capella University Library which is stimulated by the online library of the
hospital for accessing the resources. Apart from the library, computer system at the nursing
station can also be used to access the resources that can be used in the diagnosis. The nurse
should be educated to gather resources from the source which are reliable and valid such as
online sites run by government or the world healthcare organization for true knowledge. It will
help to avoid any misguiding regarding the knowledge of the diagnosis.

These are the most trustworthy and reliable site to search information regarding the
neuropathic pain treatment. By the aid of these online sources, the nurse will be able to collect
evidence about the diagnosis of the neuropathic pain. The information gathered from the site will
help the nurse in understanding the pathophysiology of the pain from which the patient is going
