Introduction
In the field of health and social care the two most common factors required to be
present within a health care practitioner is dignity and respect. A compassionate
practitioner of healthcare requires having both dignity and respect while providing
effectual support towards individual users of healthcare services. In this study, a
detailed discussion is going to be made on the approaches to be used in healthcare
services along with conducting a literature review on the topic followed by providing a
proposal for researching on this topic.

P1 Describe the purpose and process of conducting research in enabling
evidence-based practice in health and social care
Evidence-based practice is quite important in terms of health and social care. According
to Straus et al. (2018), the purposes of conducting research for enabling evidence-
based practice within health and social care is that through the means of evidence-
based practice, improved patient outcomes can be determined by providing the most
effectual care. Another purpose of evidence-based practice is that it helps in integrating
best research, patient values as well as clinical expertise while making decisions
regarding taking care of individual patients. According to Rousseau and Olivas‐Lujan
(2015), the process using which research can be conducted for evidence-based
practice within healthcare is as follows -
 Definition of research problem
 Construction of the hypothesis of the research
 Development of questions for research
 Designing the research
 Selection of information sources
 Collection of data from the sources
 Analysing data through various statistical tools

P2 Explain the skills and qualities needed to conduct a literature review in health
and social care
In order to write and conduct a literature review, a wide number of qualities and skills
are required being possessed (Hart, 2018). According to Ross and Joseph (2019), the
basic qualities and skills for conducting literature review in the context of health and
social care include the following -

 Capacity of identifying and using authentic and valid sources of information such
as journals and books
 Effectual writing skills
 Grip on vocabulary and terminology
 Detailed understanding of information on the topic of research
 Proper use of grammar and effective sentence framing
 Decisive analysing skills
 Skills to align and arrange data and information
 Accuracy in the capacity of compare and contrast of information
 Accuracy in skills to analyse the data collected
 Ethical considerations to collect and gather data

The knowledge as well as the skills that have been discussed for being able to conduct
a literature review requires being possessed within me as well. However, on an
average, almost all the knowledge and skills are possessed with me since I have an
experience of working as an intern in a medical team and handling a large number of
patients. At the same time, I have conducted two different researches in the field of
health and social care sector being a student of health and social care, due to which
these skills are possessed within me.

P3 Conduct a literature review using a range of sources relating to the research
topic
There are different ways in which dignity and respect can be incorporated into a
practitioner for enhancing their level of dignity and respect for service users. Manookian
et al. (2014) stated that communication, interactions with patients, and ensuring the
privacy and confidentiality of service users are the key approaches for embedding
respect and dignity for supporting service users. On the other hand, Lin et al. (2013)
mentioned that educating healthcare professionals as well as providing them with
effectual training is also one of the most effective approaches using which a healthcare
practitioner can be ensuring that he or she maintains a high level of respect and dignity
while they are providing care services to patients. In this context, Carrese et al. (2015)
added that paying attention to the cultural and rights issues of service users and
ensuring that they are not violated are yet another approach for embedding respect and
dignity in healthcare services. All these researches have a positive change in healthcare
practices through improving the level of care services provided to users.

The literature review that has been conducted above is reliable as well as valid in nature
since the sources of information used for its preparation are authentic in nature and
almost same outcomes can be determined from each of the authors. All these sources
have been gathered from trusted sites and scholarly articles, due to which its validity
can be ensured. The reliability of the literature review can be ensured, as there are no
contradictions in the opinions of the authors provided in terms of approaches using
which on the most suitable approaches for embedding respect and dignity for
supporting service users in health and social care.

P5 Explain the benefits of evidence-based practice as a method in carrying out
research
There are a large number of advantages of using evidence-based practice to be used
as a method for carrying out research (Dang and Dearholt, 2017). This is because
through this kind of a research, the needs and demands of service users can be easily
fulfilled since they gain an insight into the best practices. Evidence-based practice also
helps practitioners in staying updated on the standardised evidence-based protocols
along with using near real-time information for making care decisions. Among the other
advantages of evidence-based practice is that it improves outcomes, enhances the
quality of care along with improving accountability, value and transparency of
practitioners.
Through the means of implementing evidence-based practice, practitioners are enabled
to monitoring along with evaluating the various outcomes of research conducted (Grove
and Gray, 2018). By the means of conducting the research, the researcher is going to
have the scope of sharing his or her experiences with their colleagues. Therefore, better
outcomes of patients can be obtained while practitioners are enabled in terms of
discarding the method of providing care that is unproven.

Introduction and research background -
According to O'Hare (2015), evidence-based practice has a great role to be played in
the health and social care industry. It is the conscientious for the utilisation of present
best evidence for making decisions regarding providing care to patients. However,

respect and dignity are the two main factors for providing care services to patients
within health care organisations, for which evidence-based practice is essential. As a
result, this research is going to be conducted for finding out how effective support can
be provided to health and social care service users through the utilisation of approaches
of acquiring respect and dignity for providing the services.
Research aims and objectives -
This research is going to be conducted with the aim of finding out and identifying how a
compassionate practitioner can be finding out approaches for the embedment of respect
and dignity for providing effectual support for individual users of services with
healthcare.
The following points point out the research objectives -
 To find out the significance of evidence-based practice in health and social care
 To determine the determinants or features of a compassionate practitioner in the

Expected outcomes -
From this evidence-based practice, which is going to be conducted on the approaches
that facilitate health care practitioners in embedding respect and dignity for supporting
service users, it is expected that a detailed and practical knowledge can be gained on
suitable approaches that can be applied in real life for improving healthcare services for
patients. Another expected outcome of the research is that through the means of the
findings and their analysis, recommendations can be provided on how respect and
dignity can be improved further with new approaches or methods.

For every research proposed or conducted, there is a specific rationale (Bell et al.,
2018). The rationale of the research that has been proposed is finding out how a
compassionate practitioner can be developed in the field of health and social care
through the medium of providing an effectual support through respect and dignity for
individual service users who are operating within the health care sector.

P7 Describe different ways in which the literature review influences evidence-
based health and social care practice
For the sector of healthcare, evidence-based practice is a significant factor since it is
one of the best practices using which care services can be enhanced (Harvey and
Kitson, 2015). The literature review conducted above has a direct effect over evidence-
based practices in the sector of health and social care since the literatures discussed
help in gaining an understanding of the basic ingredients, which are respect and dignity,
required for improving the comfort and level of satisfaction of patients or service users.
At the same time, the literature review helped in gathering evidences in terms of the
requirements as well as the approaches with which respect and dignity can be
embedded by healthcare practitioners for providing effectual support to all individual
users of service. On the contrary, through alignment and connection of findings of one
researcher with the others, as done in the literature review, the importance and the
significance of evidence-based practices in the sector of health and social care can be
realised.
P8 Explain how recent research has had a positive impact on current practice to
improve service delivery
The delivery of services within the healthcare sector has improved largely because of
recent research conducted, especially due to evidence-based research. This is because
documented information from researches helps practitioners such as nurses for
understanding the diverse kinds of issues that diverse kinds of patients have followed
by realising the skills that they themselves require for providing better support to
individual service users. This is one of the positive impacts. On the other hand, the
findings of recent research is helping service users in the alignment of their work to the
findings, which help them in ensuring that they are being able to provide right services
at the right time and in the right way. Decision-making improves while approaches for
interactions with patients improve, which are also positive impacts.
