overall health-care outcomes. Practices guidelines are developed from the evaluation of the
peer-reviewed literature sources. The examination of the sources involves evidence-based
practice to ensure reliability and validity of the collected data (Linares et al., 2014). The
American Medical Association provides a list of practice guidelines that help in improving

patient care and outcomes. The recommendations provided in the literature sources are
important for improving patient care based on the available scientific evidences. Evidence-
Based Practices are important in the systemic analysis of the efficacy of practice guidelines in
ensuring quality care and attaining the desired patient outcomes (Niewswiadomy, 2012).
Developers of the Guidelines
The guidelines developers are professional nurses with expertise in operative
practices. The American Medical Association selected a group of professionals to develop the
guidelines to promote effectiveness of the health-care services provided to the patients and
promote outcomes.

The development of the guidelines involved professionals from different fields,
therefore promoting inter-disciplinary practice in the Evidence-based practice. The inter-

Ford, 2015). For example, the use of midazolam is recommended for reducing post-operative
pain.
Has the Guidelines been subjected to peer review and Testing?
The evaluation of the reliability and validity of the recommendations involved the
analysis of the appropriate literature based on the scientific evidences provided in the sources
(Ursuy, 2014). The guidelines are appropriate because that have been reviewed and tested for
their reliability and validity in improving patient outcomes. The guidelines are also peer-
reviewed because the American Medical Association does not include non-reviewed
information in its documentation.
Intent of Guideline Use
The guidelines provided by American Medical Association are used nationally. The
American Medical Association is a national association recognised in the whole country
because of the reliability and validity of its scientific evidences. The association also provides
guidelines that are applied in all health-care operation, therefore, improving patient safety and
outcomes.
Relevancy of the Recommendations in Clinical Practice
The recommendations provided are relevant in clinical practices because the
information were collected from peer-reviewed sources like medical and nursing journals.

The use of peer-reviewed sources was also important in the comparison of the efficacy of the
recommendation provided in different journals (Ursuy, 2014). The strategy applied in the
development of the guidelines also improved the relevancy of the recommendations in
clinical practice.
How the Recommendations help in Caring Patients
The recommendation for the use of different anaesthetic agent in pre-operative
procedures is to obtain different outcomes and determine the efficacy of different drugs in
pain management. The recommendations are critical in ensuring patient safety and
satisfaction in clinical practice (Wallen et al., 2010). Recommendations are also desired to
improve the quality of health-care services and promote patient outcomes through patient-
centred services in the facility.
Feasibility of the Recommendations
The recommendations provided in the guidelines are practical because the main
concern is to improve patient care practices. Feasibility of the sources is determined and
achieved through the critical appraisal of the evidences obtained from various literature
sources. The analysis of the current sources improved the feasibility of the recommendations
because requirements for improving patient care changes with time and the desires of the
healthcare professionals (Black, 2014).
The recommendations and their Variation from Current Practice
The recommendations does not have any variation from contemporary clinical
practices. The recommendations relates to the current clinical practices because they were
developed from the sources that were published or revised within the last five years. The
outcomes of the recommendations are measured and analysed based on the standard care
delivered to the patients because the efficacy results of the health-care practices rely of the
patient outcomes (White & O’Sullivan, 2012).

Conclusion
Generally, evidence-based practice is a core element in promoting patient-centred
care services and accentuating quality outcomes in nursing and healthcare practices.
Evidence-based practice is one of the approaches that should be used in dealing with
problems and challenges based on the appropriate practice guidelines and recommendations
for improving the performances. Effective recommendations are important in improving
patient care in the clinical setting and ensuring quality and desired patient outcomes.
