1EVIDENCE BASED NURSING RESEARCH
This essay revolves around the implementation of an evaluation plan which should be
included in the evidence based project.
Description of the rationale for the methods used in collecting the data
The data has been collected according to the reduction in depression as measured by
the assessment of Beck’s Depression Inventory tool. This tool has been suggested for
measuring the suicidal rate and mental illnesses like depression among military veterans.
Moreover the assessment has been done on the mindfulness scale. It is a 21 item self-report
rating inventory which has been used for the measurement of the characteristic attitudes
along with the symptoms of the depression. The various forms of the tool consist of the
computerized and the card forms. According to the evidence based practiced research aimed
at exploring the mental health issues like post traumatic disorders among military veterans,
this tool is useful in assessing the patients from a scale of 1 to 10. Moreover from the tool a
suicidal events be measured where there is prevalence of self-directed violence, suicide
preparatory behavior as well as suicide resulting in the hospitalization like issues (Halak,
Tibrewal & Jain, 2015).
Description of the ways the outcome measures are evaluated to the extent to which the
projects are achieved
For the evaluation of the research outcomes, statistical methods has been used.
Moreover statistical analysis tools like estimation and analysis of p value have helped the
interpretation of the outcomes as well as identification of the interrelations which has been
done on two different groups. The statistical analysis tools have been used for measurement
of the effectiveness of the interventions. Moreover, the statistical processes have helped the
identification of the effective practices including those practices requiring improvement.

Moreover there is a need for clarity along with consensus which would be revolved around
the purpose of the intervention targeted at assessing the mental disorders of the patients.
Regression analysis is important for this intervention as the relationships between various
variables can be established for ensuring better decisions. Here the calculation of the
significance of the event is important or evaluation of the significance of the system.
Moreover the correlation between the effectiveness of the cognitive based methods among
military veterans suffering from mental disorders (Green et al., 2015).
Description of how the outcomes would be measured as well as evaluated based on the
address validity, reliability and applicability
The validity of the outcome measures can be evaluated due to the presence of the
Beck’s Inventory tool being evidence based. Thus the reliability and the validity can be
considered regarding the detection of severity of depression and suicidal tendencies. Inn
research studies done for evaluating the reliability of the BDI , cronbach’s alpha has been
computed for the responses for the first administration of the Beck’s inventory tool. The
beck’s inventory tool has been found to be internally consistant and there has been sufficient
retest reliability for the test (Salkind, 2016). For the validity of the tool, multi trait correlation
matrix has been computed where the correlation of the variables represent the various
heterotrait monomethod coefficients. Moreover the scores have been found to be genuine
after the reliability and the validity tests proving the effectiveness of the tool (Nuzzo, 2014).
One of the factors affecting the applicability of the method is the high cost involved in the
implementation of the tools in people. Moreover user friendly approach to the tool along with
its availability is another factor which affects the applicability of the tool.
Description of the strategy to take if the outcomes do not provide positive results
Incase positive outcomes are not received for the Beck’s Inventory tool then there are
other tools for the assessment of mental illness in patients military veterans in this case. The

Hamilton rating scale for depression is an observer rate scale which can be designed for the
measurement of the intensity as well as the severity of the depression as it would be helpful
in monitoring the evolution of the symptoms in both research as well as clinical practice
(Heale & Twycross, 2016). Another assessment tool is Montgomery Asberg Depression
rating tool which is mainly used for the evaluation of the symptoms for the severity of
depression and can be helpful for evaluation for military veterans. Thus there alternative
assessment tools can be helpful for the assessment of mental illness among patients as
efficient as the beck’s inventory model (Thomson, 2015).
Description of implications for practice as well as future research
The use of such assessment tools for mental illnesses can be useful for reducing the
symptoms associated with the mental illnesses among the military veterans Moreover,
effectiveness of such tools like the Beck’s Inventory tool can be useful along with the
Mindfulness theory for cognitive therapy which would ultimately aim at reducing the severity
of the mental illness associated with suicidal tendencies of the people.
