EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 3
Task 1 (a)
What is the event/incident that you are reflecting on? (Indicating the relevant week)
The event is related to private GSM London College that is going to stop teaching. It is identified
that GSM London is one of biggest private higher education providers in England. It has gone
into the administration and would stop the teaching the students in September. It is also pointed
out that the college states that it has not been competent for recruiting and retaining the adequate
amount of scholars to create sufficient revenues to be sustainable (BBC news, 2019). It is also
identified that GSM London College is engaged in teaching approximately 3,500 scholars with
degree courses to validate by the university of Plymouth. The college located in Greenwich as
well as, Greenford states that 247 jobs are at uncertainty. Week 8 is used for developing the
understanding of Myers Briggs of personality. In such manner, I have pointed out that there are
different criteria for assessing the personality (Olsen, 2015).
Why is this event/incident significant for you?
This event is significant for me to develop knowledge regarding private GSM London College. It
would be also effective for retaining and recruiting scholars within GSM London College
(Korthagen, 2017).
What technique/model did you use?
Myers Briggs of personality test was used for assessing the personality of scholars. Feedback
technique is practiced for self-awareness. This feedback is collected through tutor feedback and
peer feedback (Vetere and Stratton, 2016).
Why did it happen and what was your initial reaction to the event/incident?
This event is happened because of the declining profitability of GSM London College. The
initial reaction to the event was marketization of education (Kroll, and Dussias, 2017).

EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 4
Applying the relevant model, reflect on the event/incident• would these reflections change if
using a different model/technique?
Description
This reflective report presents the incident of stop teaching at GSM London College. It also
demonstrates the Gibbs reflective cycle to reflect on incidents. There would be no difference in
the case reflection technique would be changed (Christie, et. al., 2018).
Feelings
Throughout the module, I felt that Profit College is owned through private equity firm and
emphasized on business option. It is noticed that event is one of sign regarding private providers
that encourages for endorsing more of the market within higher education. From the module, I
felt that its fall down is possible for raising questions regarding the accomplishment of such
commercialization of area. It is identified that it was not a university as well as, not regulated
through higher education watchdog. I have also realized that overarching preferences is to make
sure that scholars are competent for completing their investigations (Ramia, et. al., 2016).
It is addressed that some scholars who are nearing the completion of their investigations would
be competent for staying at GSM London College. However, it is recognized that most would
require transferring to other higher education providers. It is felt that the college had 5,440
scholars with recent data indicating 3500 (Avidov-Ungar, 2016). I have also pointed out that a
statement through GSM London states that discussion with other higher education contributors
demonstrates the alternative courses for scholars and would facilitate them in application
procedure (Walsh and Craig, 2016).

EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 5
Throughout the module, it is evaluated that the college states that it cannot remain financially
feasible as well as, had been incapable of addressing a purchaser for making sure its long-
standing future. It is also addressed that GSM London college would be orderly wind-down as
well as, closure of college until September. It is also evaluated that union of UCU lecturers stated
that marketization of education as well as, warned regarding funding a free for all between
private providers (Davies, Curtin, and Robson, 2017).
This assessment would be effective for avoiding stop teaching events. It is also addressed that
education spokeswoman wishes a broader and sustainable market in higher education that
provides flexibility to scholars as well as, a wider range of superior selection for what and where
they investigate. It is evaluated that there are several institutions that are sound in financial
health. It is found that the department for education and office for scholars are clear that neither
would bail out weakening providers (Brody, and Hadar, 2015).
Myers Briggs personality test was conducted for assessing different kinds of personality such as
Extraversion – Introversion, Sensing – Intuition, Thinking – Feeling, and Judging – Perceiving.
In such a manner, Extraversion – Introversion indicates the direction and source of an energy
expression about an individual. It is also evaluated that sources and direction of extravert about
energy expression are mainly in the external world when an introvert has a basis of energy
mainly in own internal environment (Hill, et. al., 2016). Throughout the module, it is pointed out
that sensing-intuition demonstrates the technique through which an individual perceives data. I
have also perceived that sensing indicates that an individual believes mainly data he or she
receives through the internal or imaginative environment (Núñez Pardo and Téllez Téllez, 2015).
From the criteria, thinking-feeling demonstrate how an individual processes data. It is identified
that thinking indicates that an individual creates decision mainly via logic. During the module, it
Document Page
EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 6
was taught to me that feeling indicates that as a rule, he or she can make a decision as per the
emotion such as based on what they feel they should perform. It is observed that judging and
perceiving demonstrate how an individual executes the data he or she has processed. It is opined
that judging indicates that an individual manages all of his life events and as a regulation, it can
stick to his plan. It is also observed that perceiving indicates that he or she is inclined to
improvising as well as, exploring alternative selections (Ahmed and Ward, 2016).
It is evaluated that SOAR is a new and currently introduced model that offers higher emphasize
on favorable aspects. I have also increased my learning about SWOT analysis. It is proven to be
highly enduring analytical tool practiced in strategic management. It can be supportive for an
organization for comprehending the prospecting challenges, involves how arranged they might
be as well as, whether or not they have the competencies for responding towards the possible
challenges (Vangrieken, et. al., 2017).
Conclusions
From the above interpretation, it can be concluded that GSM London College is going to stop
due to declining profitability. It is identified that UCU lecturers evaluated that marketization of
education together with, warned about funding a free for all amongst private providers.
Action
GSM London College should take a step for improving its profitability rather than focusing on
stopping college. It can use effective marketing strategies for endorsing its college among
students. It can also contribute to CSR activities for making a positive image among scholars
(Patton, Parker, and Tannehill, 2015).
How useful/effective has learned through reflection been and why (was there a change in
action or attitude)?

EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 7
Learning through reflection is beneficial for understanding different aspects of GSM College. In
this way, it is stated that reflection is a practice of learning by each day experience and creates
integral components regarding undergraduate and post-graduate higher education midwifery
initiatives. It is addressed that scholars are motivated for practicing structured model related to
reflection, which shows the ability to reflecting on their experience at the time of clinical
activities. These models of reflection would be evaluated and practice of reflective activities
within midwifery higher education would be discussed (Von Suchodoletz, et. al., 2018).
It is identified that reflection is illustrated as a procedure that makes competent to learn from
continues series regarding experience through which, continuity regarding meaning occurs
overtimes. It is addressed that reflective thinking entailed a systematic and scientific procedure
regarding detailing experience for creating theories and hypotheses and then considering
intelligent action for testing such theories (Bornman and Louw, 2019). It is identified that this
concept of reflective thinking was but, highly placed within the context of education in which the
aim of scholars for increasing the understanding via learning. Under the professional context,
reflection is known to be of benefit in experiential learning and develops critical thinking
competencies. It provides the combination among theory as well as, practices (Bornman and
Louw, 2019).
Reflection entails addressing attainment within a condition for looking forward. It may heighten
the self-awareness and permits the practitioners for seeing things in a comprehensible way as
well as, permits the best decision. It also facilitates the useful emphasize because it makes
competent one for exploring the influences that guide as well as, shaping the practices of
individuals. Reflection also makes competent the learning and within professional practices, it

permits the practitioners for depicting their progression for attaining learning results and
essential standards (Macià and García, 2016).
Task 1 (b) summative reflection
Why learning through reflection is important and what values could it bring to your
professional development?
Learning through reflection is significant for enhancing personal development by leading to the
self-awareness. When emphasize of reflection is an enhancement in patient care then it could be
supportive for developing and expanding the understanding and competencies. The procedure
may slow the activity providing time for processing the material of learning as well as, relation
to past ideas (Cruess, et. al., 2019).
This learning through reflection is valuable in professional development in terms of transforming
experience into the authentic learning regarding individual goals and values as well as, about the
larger social concerns. Reflection challenges the scholars for connecting the service practices for
course objectives as well as, creating a higher extent of thinking with solving the problem
(Dawson, 2018). In addition to this, reflection is required to perform against the perpetuation of
stereotypes by increasing the awareness of scholars of social structures that are surrounding to
service atmospheres. By enhancing the sense of relations to society as well as, deeper awareness
regarding needs of the community, reflection gains the likelihood that scholars would remain
engaged to facilities beyond the terms of course (Meijer, et. al., 2017).
Which reflective model have you chosen and why?
Gibbs reflective model has selected for reflection. Since, it motivates an individual for thinking
methodologically regarding the experience they have had at the time of particular condition,
activity, and events. In addition to this, Gibbs reflective cycle could be implemented for

EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 9
supporting an individual from experience. Furthermore, experiences have shaped an individual.
But, to grow as an individual experience alone is not enough. An individual needs for reflecting
the significant experiences to develop rules, principle, theories, which would make me better at a
job (McMillan, et. al., 2016).
Applying the relevant reflective model, what are the three main aspects you learned from
the PPDI?
Gibbs reflective model is used for improving the learning through experience. There are three
aspects that I learned through PPDI such as time management, communication competencies as
well as, dealing complex situations with the management of conflicts (Cruess, et. al., 2016).
Learning through the module is discussed by using the given Gibbs reflective cycle:
Description
Gibbs reflective model is used for improving the competencies and skills through the module.
This reflective model presents the learning and experiences increased through 10 weeks.
Feelings
Throughout the module, I have enhanced my learning regarding emotional intelligence. In this
way, I felt that knowing as well as, managing emotions of an individual, recognizing emotions in
others, as well as, handling associations. From the week 1 module, I have increased my
understanding regarding the Dewey’s 5 Stage Model. In this way, I have observed that reflective
thought starts with the experiences that develop through dilemmas and difficulties (Van Waes,
et. al., 2016). I have also enhanced my experience regarding Argyris & Schön Reflective Theory
Model. In such a way, it is addressed that professional growth occurs while an individual doubt
on our actions. This model emphasizes on thinking ahead, analyzing, experiencing as well as,
critically responding (Davis, 2015).

EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 10
During EVRE tutorial class 1, I learned to be open as well as, accept transformations together
with, new things as a learning experience (See: Appendix 1). From attending week 2 module, I
have increased my learning regarding Gibbs reflective cycle. In such a way, it is identified that
the Gibbs model acknowledges that feelings impact on the situation and develops by
categorizing the reflection into the evaluation of events. It is also identified that Gibbs reflective
cycle can outcome in superficial thinking because it does not refer to critical thinking or
reflection or analysis (Gregersenand MacIntyre, 2017).
Throughout EVRE tutorial class 3, I was involved in the time management practices that I had
enjoyed highly. In this period, I have learned that planning as well as, being realistic will be
supportive for me in the procedure of performing an allocated task (See: Appendix 2).
Throughout the week 4 module, I have created my understanding of Kolb’s learning cycle. In
such a way, I have learned that effective learning is said to have created while an individual
passes via all four phases. I have increased my understanding regarding it is possible for
penetrating at any phase however it should follow via in sequences. In addition to this, I have
enhanced my learning that each phase is supportive and feed into subsequent phases (Girvan, et.
al., 2016).
From week 5 module, I have increased my learning that there are different aspects of personal
and professional development plan such as SOAR assessment, developing goals as well as,
personal objectives (Markham, et. al., 2017).
During the EVRE tutorial class 5, I was involved in the conflict resolution activity. In this way, I
have conducted a test as well as, scored higher in forcing and due to which, I put forces on the
group. I have also increased my understanding regarding every scholar has a scenario in mind

that we all contributed and gave illustration regarding how this specific method of resolving
conflict may be a solution (Shuler and Keller-Dupree, 2015).
Evaluation
From week 7 module, it is evaluated that Brookfield addressed the critical reflection. There are
different phases of critical reflection such as identifying the assumption, which underlie actions
and thoughts. I have also learned that scrutinizing as well as, assessing the validity of these
assumptions with respect to how they relate to real-life experiences as well as present context. I
have also increased my knowledge that transforming these assumptions are becoming more
integrative and inclusive as well as, practicing this newly developed understanding to more
feasibly inform the potential practices as well as, actions (Driessen, and van Tartwijk, 2018).
At the time of EVRE 8, I have developed my understanding regarding Kubler-Russ Grief Cycle
that defines how I felt the day before as well as, now thinking back, I recognize that there is less
aspect to blame others together with, feeling down, stressing myself over something I cannot my
own self put right.
During the tenure of EVRE 9, I have initiated to discussing the closing down GSM London as
well as, school-going into management. I have also learned to remain calm while things do not
go in my way as well as, asking the questions directly to an individual entails in that situation
while I am confused as compared to listening to side discussions (See: Appendix 8). From week
10 module, I have enhanced my learning regarding bloom’s taxonomy. In this way, I have
learned that there are different surface in this model such as create, evaluate, analyze, apply,
understand as well as, remember (Chretien, et. al., 2015).
Conclusions
Document Page
EVALUATION AND REFLECTION 12
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that GSM London is going to stop in a few days
due to declining profits. It can be summarised that there are different competencies and skills that
I have learned through modules such as emotional intelligence and personality. It can be
concluded that there are different reflective models that are used for increasing learning through
reflection such as Gibbs reflective model, and Kolb’s learning cycle. I have also enhanced my
learning regarding the SOAR assessment that aids to increase my strengths and grabbing the
opportunities.
Action
From the conclusion, I have learned that there are some weaknesses that need to make
improvements such as time management and conflict resolution. For managing the time, I would
focus on some activities such as start my day with a clear focus, minimize interruptions, limit
multitasking, focus on high-value activities, stop procrastinating, have a dynamic list of task, and
review my day. In order to resolve the conflict, I will emphasize on some activities. These are
avoiding, defeating, accommodating, compromising, as well as, collaborating (Markham, et. al.,
2017).
Does this differ from your previous knowledge of these areas?
This learning differs through previous knowledge of these areas. I have a lack of understanding
regarding the reflection but after attending the session, I have learned that reflection is not a
sequences about the ideas as compared to consequences where, consecutive ordering of mind is
taking place in such a manner that each evaluates the next as its adequate results whereas each
result, in turn, leans on and refers for its antecedent (Girvan, et. al., 2016).
Do you see any value in the knowledge gained when applying a particular reflective model
and why?
