Post 2: Critique one peer post
The post of my peer (friend’s name) of Business Communication is well written,
however, I found certain drawbacks to the post as well. First aspect missing in the post is proper
structuring and font size. The post is difficult to read as it has not been uniformly structured. The
post given by my peer is comprehensive however missing the key component of the article from
the beginning. The post starts in a descriptive manner. It is more oriented towards describing
business communication and interpersonal communication.
The post focused on analysing the characteristics of exemplary business communication
through investigation of specific communication form selected by the facilitator and research,
which makes it effective. Yet the post in the first, as well as the second paragraph, went on to
describe the very nature of business communication without establishing a connection between
the article provided or the style used by our facilitator. The post only in the last paragraph
describes the article that has been provided on Harvard Psychologists Amy Cuddy. The missing
characteristics in the post is to establish a connection between the article (as stated in the last
paragraph) and the lessons regarding exemplary business communication (first two paragraphs)
as taught in class (Khan & Khan, 2012).
The post has identified plausible characteristics of exemplary business communication
and has also discussed in-depth regarding interpersonal communication. However, the post
appears a mere paraphrasing from the materials that have been provided in the class and the
inability to consolidate or criticize the materials together with learning (Okoro, Washington &
Thomas, 2017). The post fails to identify any example with its suitability. The major drawback
of this post is not being able to provide a real-life example to its readers, hence, in my opinion, it
fails to convince its readers. There are no concrete examples provided in support of all the styles

Post 3: Summarise learning
The key learning's from the Discussion Forum is to understand and distinguish between
the real-life business communication that takes place. Though business communication happens
around us all the time yet I did not earlier possess knowledge regarding the various styles of
business communication in existence. The discussion forum has allowed me to understand the
various style of business communication in practice. I could learn it by applying various readings
or reviewing of articles (Harrison & Muhlberg, 2014). Through the discussion, I was able to
analyse the gaps prevalent in my understanding regarding business communication and learn to
fill up those gaps. One such example was my realization regarding the ability to influence the
other person in interpersonal communication. Through the HBR article provided to us, I was able
to understand what makes us an effective interpersonal communicator and distinguishes us from
those who are not. I have learnt that being a good listener is an immense positive characteristic of
good interpersonal communication. This is one key learning that I will apply in my life as a
professional. I will always try and be a good listener before I present my point of view. This will
assist me to enhance my career in my professional domain.
Second learning that I have gained is the art of negotiating. One of the key aspects of
business communication and especially interpersonal communication is to be able to negotiate
(Bell & Martin, 2014). Through interpersonal communication, I feel I have been able to
successfully acquire skills of good negotiations. Skills such as listening and networking will help
me go a long way in my professional life helping me to negotiate businesses. This way I will
apply my learnt business skill in my professional domain.
Third crucial learning gained from these discussion forum has been facilitating and
working in teams. By being an effective communicator I will easily be able to work in teams and

conduct team meetings or resolve conflicts in case a situation arises. This learning I will apply in
my professional domain.
