1POLITICS OF USA
In the context of homeland security with respect to the United States, existential threats
can be defined as the dangers or threats that directly attack the very essence of existence of the
country. A country’s existence depends upon its foundation, the philosophy it carries and the
magnitude of its flexibility on which the nation is standing. Existential threat poses danger to all
the respective aspects. Threats such as environmental threats (climate change, global warming,
nuclear war), economic downpour, terrorism by extremist groups and ethnocentric emergence of
political parties might harm the very essence of integrity of America (Theglobepost., 2019).
The National Preparedness System is an instrument that a nation might adopt and employ
in order to build, sustain and deliver the core capabilities so that they are able to achieve the goal
of a secured and resilient nation. National Preparedness system helps a country to be well
equipped in warfare and defense, which, in turn, helps the government to fight back in case of
any uncommon attacks and guerilla terrorism. National Preparedness System components
include speculating and assessing risks, estimating capabilities and resources, building, planning
and sustaining risk management and emergency in case of any inconvenience and also reviewing
and updating security policies and actions time and again. The effectiveness of National
Preparedness System is holistic and comprehensive, it has helped nations to build their strengths
against enemies. A safe, secured and well equipped country is desired by every society in the
world. The country should know how to safeguard the people and provide a good response to the
hazards (man-made and natural) that can cause harm to the nation. A safe and secured society is
the goal of every nation and community, both globally and locally. The National Preparedness
System, with special reference to the USA, provides eminent personnel to the government who
toils relentlessly to make the nation safe and secured from foreign and alien threats. The National
Preparedness System also focuses on disaster management, both man made and natural. It helps

the nations to always remain prepared for any kind of inconvenience or emergency. When a
nation is secured and safe, it is able to work properly. The common people, who are the pillars of
a nation, remain safe, content and peaceful among themselves, which can be the greatest
achievement a nation can ever have. Threat to the nation means threat to the common masses
which has to be avoided on every ground (Directive, 2011).
