CAN FACES BE DECEPTIVE?

It was the first day in the office and I was feeling little edgy from inside as I was uncertain that
what the corporate future holds for me. As I left the house, the light drizzle concerned me
whether I would be able to reach the office in time. After leaving from the home, I waved hand
to stop the taxi. The taxi stopped, I mentioned him the address and he agreed with an affordable
fare. The Taxi driver gave me a warm expression as he was placating me through his moist eyes
that I would reach the place in time. In the taxi, I felt bored and started looking around myself so
that I could catch an interesting sight. Then, all of a sudden, my eyes felt on the rearview mirror
where I could see the face of my driver. I could say he carried the humblest of expressions,
which were visible through his slightly pressed lips and falling eyebrows. The lines at the end of
his eyes and on his forehead were suggestive of the storms that he went through in his life. Some
old black heads signs on his cheeks were representative of an adolescent age just passed. The
taxi driver must be in his late twenties or might be in his early twenties but the bruises on his
face was evident of the struggled life which made him look five years older to his present age.
As I was wondering in my loop of thoughts about the present environment then after a while, I
was brought back to conscious reality by the driver calmly telling me that “Miss your
destination had arrived”. I hurriedly tried to open my wallet to give him the fare. On receiving
the fare, I could see light smile building up on his face as he got result of his first drive during
the day. As I entered the office, the HR welcomed me where he asked me to drop the important
documents on his desks. The delighted Facial expression on his face was suggestive of an
opportunity to show off to his boss, the success of finally hiring the candidate to the door of the
company after a long time. After a short rendezvous with the HR, I was directed towards my
seat. It was an open space office where there were no cubicles, may be because of the tedious
nature of the work. As I got seated on my chair, I could see all the serious eyes pointed towards
me, some gave the very delightful and welcoming expressions that were visible through their
warm smiles while some faces communicated the arrogance look through their twisted eyebrows
and little frowning expressions.
In an hour, we were communicated to our training officer who welcomed us through a warm and
cool look and made us feel comfortable with the office environment. He was the cool person,
which was visible through his funny expressions so that the he could even keep the tough things
within acceptable limits of the employees. The childlike expressions in his eyes communicated

more deepness of thoughts than we could see it on the surface. He was the mature man indeed
but the rollercoaster events of life made him adopt a funny outlook about life that was evident
from marks of smile on his face. Few days passed, I got familiar with some part of the work but
something was still missing in my office life that was the longing for a good office colleague.
In a month’s time, there was a meeting where the boss addressed regarding the targets that are to
be achieved in the coming month. As I was the new comer, then instead on focusing on tight
lipped words of the boss, I decided to look for the amiable office colleague, I could befriend
with. From the crowd in the office conference room, my eyes got on two office colleague who
were seated at different corners of the conference table. Out of them, one who was seated beside
the senior assistant officer had a dusky color with very sharp features, which was evident from
her pointed nose. She gave a blunt expression with pungent voice, her name was Lisa. I found
her quite straight forward lacking emotional quotient. The other one who was seating on the
other side of the conference hall looked quite sweet from her face who had a lovely voice with a
cute expression on her face. I could sense the child-like gullibility from face and quality of voice.
She looked more clam and poised in her ways of handling things, she was Sarah. After the
meeting was over, we were grouped in the teams to achieve the stated target mentioned in the
conference meeting. Co-incidentally, I was grouped with the two girls and some other team
members. I felt delighted at the opportunity of becoming their good colleague.
During the one-week’s target, we had to work closely to deliver software to one of the office
clients. During the meeting, we used to have several discussion regarding building a software.
During the discussion, I used to find Lisa little authoritative that may be due to her pungent voice
quality, pointed features and her straightforward nature. Sometimes her attitude used to convey
the arrogance to me but was it really arrogance or something else, I was doubtful. On the other
hand, I found Lisa an agreeable being may be due to her soft voice and cute look. I found her
quite cooperative as she always wore a warm smile on her face. During our team exercise, we
developed good connections with each other that made me happy and I was enjoying the office
work life more than before. The senior employee praised me for my work that told me that I am
fast learner and may be the boss is planning to congratulate me with best performance at the end
of the month.

On the day before, our weekday, we were laughing out loud and discussing on funny things.
When the boss happened to be passed in front of us. After few minutes, I was called inside the
boss cabin, when I entered the room , I could sense the serious look on his face which was
evident from his frowned eyebrows and moist less eyes. He directed me to sit and told me that
lately, he has been listening to various complain about my indiscipline behavior from one of the
revered employees of our office who is Sarah. Further, he told me that I do not how to talk with
the senior employees as mentioned by Sarah. I got shocked not on the falsity of the information
but from the source of information. It took me quite few minutes to revive myself into normal
state so that I could clarify my stance. I told him this was all wrong about me and I never, was
disrespectful with my teammates. He asked for evidence, and then with lack of hope, I called in
Lisa to support my stance. She came in and listened to the whole scenario. Meanwhile, she was
listening to my scenario, I considered myself already a victim as I did not expect her to support
me owing to my pervious assumption about her personality . Moreover, she was more close to
Sarah than me. But to my surprise, she supported me really well by claiming all the information
provided to him by Sarah as completely false.
The whole Scenario made me reconsider by past observations that was taxi driver really a
humble man or a spinster?.
