Is Facebook Evil
Facebook is the greatest social media platform that brings reform in communication and
society. Still, it is associated with large number of aspects that has negative impact over its usage
and existence. Ever after having biggest influencing name in the digital social media industry,
the level of privacy is not up to the mark. There were many instances when private information
was leaked related to its users. In the end of year 2019, the personal data of 267 million
Facebook users was left exposed on an online database. The negative instances are not only
revolving around the scams of data breach, there were many activities occurred on the face of
Facebook related to manipulation, surveillance, misinformation and monitoring.
One of the biggest case of manipulation was the scandal of Cambridge Analytica. This
incidence involves dual negative aspects i.e. data breach and manipulation. This was the case
occurred in early 2018 when millions of Facebook user’s personal data was harvested by
Cambridge Analytica without their consent for the further predominate usage in political
advertisement. This was the largest data breach and manipulation activity in history of Facebook
that simultaneously used for the purpose of building Donald Trump political campaigns
(Facebook Cambridge Analytical Scandal, 2020). There were many posts are uploaded in each
and every second from the side of different communities belongs from the various nations that
deliver negative message in society irrespective to the policy of Facebook that harmful posts will
be not allowed at their platform. In overall nature, this clearly depicts that one side of Facebook
is Evil for society that associated with large number of negative impacts.
