1LEADERSHIP IN BUSINESS
Introduction
In this era of modernization, leadership is a crucial factor that affects managerial system.
In order to be an efficient leader, a manager requires developing certain leadership skills. The
research question is ‘what are the factors that influence development of leadership in an
Individual?’ The aim of the research is to perform a detailed analysis of the factors that influence
development of leadership skills in an individual. The objective of the research is to find out the
factors that impose positive impact on leadership skills from the perspective of employees and
that of managers of the chosen organization. From the data collected, analysis of the obtained
data will be performed.
Methodology
In order to conduct this research, mixed methodology approach will be used. Mixed
methodology approach can be defined as a methodology that involves collecting, analyzing and
integrating both qualitative and quantitative research (Dillman, Smyth and Christian 2014).
Quantitative methodology involves close-ended information that is collected with the help of
online or offline surveys using instruments like questionnaires or checklists (Kumar 2014). On
the other hand, qualitative methodology includes collection of open-ended information by
conducting interviews, focus groups or observation. Mixed methodology is used by researchers
to gain deep understanding and corroboration along with offsetting the weaknesses of using each
of the mentioned approaches by itself (Terrell 2012).
In this research, in order to implement the quantitative approach, an online survey has been
conducted by sending a close-ended questionnaire consisting 10 questions to 100 participants.
The 100 participants selected will be from X and Y Company, since the two mentioned company
has shown immense progress due to effective leadership. The qualitative data collection will
involve interviewing 150 employees from three eminent companies, namely A, B and C. The
question asked to the participants will be open-ended since open-ended questions will help the
researcher to understand the importance of the factors in depth. The whole process of the
research will need 2 years. In order to perform qualitative research, the help of ground theory
approach will be taken. At first, the collected data will be categorized and coded. Initially, open
coding will be done followed by selective coding. Secondly, Memoing will be performed which

involves recording the ideas and thoughts of the researcher that are evaluated throughout the
study. Finally, conceptual sorting of memos will be performed and an outline of the emergent
theory will be obtained that will show the relationship between concepts.
