MSc Dissertation: Factors Influencing Organic Farmers' Supply Chain

This dissertation investigates the factors influencing the criteria used by organic farmers in India when selecting a supply chain network. The study highlights the challenges faced by these farmers, including the presence of numerous middlemen, a lack of technological knowledge, and insufficient government support. Data was gathered through telephonic interviews with Indian organic farmers to understand their perspectives on these challenges. The findings reveal that barriers to effective supply chains are primarily related to the presence of intermediaries and a lack of technological expertise among farmers, hindering their direct access to markets. The study recommends enhancing supply chain visibility and transparency, establishing certification programs to facilitate the sale of organic products, and improving technological education among farmers. Ultimately, the research aims to provide actionable recommendations that can assist Indian organic farmers in overcoming current barriers and establishing sustainable market access.
