AI Summary
This report presents a critical analysis of eight research papers focusing on faculty burnout, job satisfaction, and related factors. The studies employ various methodologies, including cross-sectional designs, systemic reviews, and data collection through questionnaires and interviews. Key themes explored include the impact of workload, organizational commitment, and work values on faculty well-being. The research highlights the prevalence of burnout syndrome among university professors and medical faculty, emphasizing the need for strategies to mitigate its negative effects. The analysis examines the relationship between job satisfaction and student academic performance, as well as the influence of organizational support and work-life experiences on burnout rates. The implications of these studies underscore the importance of addressing faculty wellness through interventions and improved recruitment practices. The studies also identify gaps in research, such as the need for further investigation into gender-specific impacts of burnout and the root causes of burnout syndrome.

1- Quality of life and burnout among faculty members: How much does the field of knowledge
matter?
Faculty members usually have a large workload that involves research, conducting outreach
programs and overseeing the management of activities. These demands put the faculty members
at a high risk of burnout. The sample size of this study was 366 participants from a public
university. The method used was a cross sectional study. The data collection process involved
using validated tools to measure the burnout and the quality of life. The results of this study
show that the implementation of programs that help to reduce the burnout rate which affects the
quality of life of the faculty members. Major implication of this study is the that the results were
generalized to the burnout levels of both males and females. More research should be done to
investigate the impact of burnout on each gender (Alves, de Fatima Oliveira, & da Silva Paro,
2019)
2-The structural relationships between organizational commitment, global job satisfaction,
developmental experiences, work values, organizational support, and person-organization fit
among nursing faculty
The global shortage of nurses has had a huge impact on the medical department. This has result
in the increased need to analyze the concept of organizational commitment to increase the
graduate recruits and retain current faculty. The method used was a cross sectional correlation
study. the data collection process involved structural equation modeling sample size was nurses
at a nursing facility. The results of the study show that nursing faculty members can build

positive relationships with the nursing faculty. The major implication of this study is that future
research is required to determine the variables that are influenced by the positive relationships
(Gutierrez, Candela, & Carver, 2012).
3-Prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in a Sample of Brazilian University Professors.
teachers are at the highest risk of developing a burnout syndrome. The method used was a cross
sectional study. the data collection involved filling in a questionnaire. The sample size of the
study was 169 university professors who were employed at 7 higher learning institutions. The
results show that burnout is major cause of cancer and has major implications on the physical,
mental and social well-being. The major implication of this study is that the root cause of the
burnout syndrome was not analyzed (Costa, Gil-Monte, Possobon, & Ambrosano, 2013)
4- Nursing faculty burnout and strategies to avoid it
A cross sectional study that had a sample size of 322 teachers was used. The data was collected
by filling in a Job Satisfaction Scale. The results of the study show there was relation between
one teacher’s job satisfaction. The implications of the study show that researchers should
develop a selection and recruitment file the new teachers (Allen, 2008)
5- Relationship between Teachers’ Job Satisfaction and Students’ Academic Performance.
Evidence based research has shown that teachers who are satisfied with their jobs tend to
perform better. The sample size of this study was 322 teachers teaching at secondary schools in
Faisalabad, Pakistan. The study design was cross sectional study. the data collection method

involved handing out questionnaires. The results of this study show that work had a moderate
and positive correlation with the job promotion, working condition and the supervision. The
major implication is that the study did not analyze the criteria for recruitment of teachers (Iqbal,
A., Fakhra, A. Z. I. Z., Farooqi, T. K., & Shabbir, 2016).
6-Authors' response (April 8, 2019) concerning the paper "The relationship between chronic
fatigue syndrome, burnout, job satisfaction, social support and age among academics at a tertiary
institution.
the author critiqued the paper explaining that there is a strong relationship between the burnout
rate and the academics especially at tertiary institutions. There was no sample size in this paper.
The study method was a systemic review and the data collection method involved using of a
critical appraisal tool. The results of the study showed that there indeed a strong relationship
between the chronic fatigue syndrome of teachers, burnout rate, job satisfaction and the social
support of the tertiary institution academics (Coetzee, Maree, & Smit, 2019).
6-Faculty Wellness: Educator Burnout among Otolaryngology Graduate Medical Educators
the study design is a cross sectional study and the data collection methods involve using data
questionnaires that are open ended. The ample size involves 23 faculty members. The results of
the study showed that MBI ES is very effective in controlling the number of faculty staff
reporting burnout (Kavanagh & Spiro, 2018).
7-Burnout Among U.S. Medical School Faculty
The method used was cross sectional study. The sample size was 556 physicians. The data

collection was done by using the various tools and a burnout assessment tool. The results of this
study show that the ability of a clinician to focus on a meaningful task that is ahead of them is
inversely proportional to the risk of burnout in the life of the clinician. The major implication of
this study is there are several assumptions that have been made regarding the tasks that the
clinician finds meaningful (Shanafelt et al., 2009)
8- Adjunct Life in a Full Time World: Evaluation of Work life Experiences and Risk for Burnout
in Social Work Field Faculty
The sample size that was used was. The design used included systemic review. The data
collection method included conducting literature reviews, semi structured interviews and
conducting surveys. The results of this study showed that organization risk factors played a
major role in the burn out rate (Ford, 2017)
