the nurses are the only point of contact between the patients and the health care service
delivery. As discussed by Chadwick and Gallagher (2016), the nursing professional
environment is characterized as complex, ever-changing and demanding professional field.
For the family strength based nursing most importantly, the impact of the evidence based
practice is the most influential. First and foremost, it has to be mentioned in this context that
the evidence based practice the most effective technique for the nurses to successfully be able
to safe and effective care at all times (Barratt, 2018). This essay will use the PICO question
format in order to elaborate on the importance or parental input in family centred care.
Area of concern
The most significant are of concern for the nurses in the context of family centred
practice or for the family nurse practitioner is the paediatric nursing. In case of the paediatric
nursing, the impact of the parental input has often been underrated in case of the family based
nursing (McCormack & McCance, 2016). Although many nursing experts have stated the fact
that the nurses can take the assistance of the parental input and modify them so that the
parents can be equally involved in the process of care planning and implementation for their
children. Hence, in this case, the clinical question to be asked is “in the target population of
the paediatric patients and their parents, does the implementation of the parental decision
making as compared to not involving parental input improve care outcome for the patients?”

impact of the parental input in the decision making helps reassure the parents and lessens the
amount of stress that the parents are facing as well. Similarly, it has also been stated by the
authors that the control and sense of involvements helps the parents feel extremely linked to
the process and helps them become calm and collected in the process helping calm the
children as well. Although, the negative impact of too much involvements of the parents in
the care planning and implementation process has also been discovered in the literature as
well. Similarly, in their articles Giambra et al. (2017) have stated the fact that the impact of
excessive involvement of the parents can also cause negative impact and derail the recovery
journey of the child with excessive demands and refusal to participate in a certain care
activity which is extremely necessary for the child. Although, with proper communication
and patent education this challenge can be overcome.
