1DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY
Essay: How I spent my Christmas
Christmas is precious for me as it includes celebration and most importantly I can
come home and spend time with my family members in our farmhouse. It is a ritual in our
family to visit ancestral place once in a year and it cannot be better than spending Christmas
with them. There is no greater feeling of doing something for people who cares for me and
whom I love the most.
I like the pre-Christmas arrangements such as, shopping for the grand meal,
ingredients for decoration and gifts for relatives. Decorating the Christmas tree with fake
snowflakes, colourful paper chains; setting up sparkling lights all around the house and
garden are my favourite activities. I literally feel the vibes of Santa’s arrival with that iconic
red suit and cap; moreover, presence of family members adds cheery on the top. My parents,
two sisters and my grandparents arrange a Christmas party every year in our courtyard where
people form old communities and acquaintances come, contribute and enjoy together over a
session of drinking wine made of farm fresh grapes. My mother bakes cookies and a giant
chocolaty fudge cake for the guests. I have learnt baking small muffins this year. I have called
my school friends and promised to bring red velvet muffins for them after the holiday. I have
five friends here. They come and bring chocolates every year. They have already tasted my
muffins. I personally like the red colour and flower shaped whipped cream on top. In order
to add personal touch I have asked my mother if I can sprinkle some Oreo crumbs over that.
Guests have praised my attempt and loved my improvisations.
The decoration, lights, colours, joy, smell of freshly baked cookies and roasted turkey
all of these things are synonymous to Christmas for me. I feel fortunate to have a family
where everyone is together and happy too. Sharing love and happy moments with closed ones
remind me of celebrating life and not only just festivals.
