INTRODUCTION
The report is based on the case scenario related the fashion retail company and located head
office in Sydney. Generally, it is mainly consists of three departments such as marketing, general
support and sales. These are established the connection between each other through centralised
network which help for connecting with different workstation. The documentation will discuss
about the location of all workstation and interconnecting hardware devices. It will describe LAN
topology and identify its current protocols used in the network design. Furthermore, the report
will discuss about WAN network design between five offices and head office, identifying the
functionality of each devices in proper manner.
MAIN BODY
LAN network design of head office
1) Identify and discuss about the location of all workstation and interconnecting devices such as
routers, wireless access point, switches.
As considered LAN network design of head office, in order to consider the location of
workstation. Afterwards, different network devices such as wireless point, switches and router
are established interconnection between each other (Awasthi, 2020). In this way, it help for
sharing large amount of data from head office where staff member access through head office
network system.

2) Discuss LAN topology and relevant protocols
LAN topology is based on the physical and logical arrangement of network and refer to
connection between workstations, servers and other equipment related to each other during
traffic flow. Basically, LAN topology can be divided into three types: linear bus, ring and star
topology.
Bus topology: It is known as linear bus topology, each and every stations are arranged along
with single length of cable (Benefa, Ahaiwe and Ikerionwu, 2020). It can be extended at either
end or at both sides. It is mainly consist of coaxial cable such as RG-58 A/u cable with Ethernet.
In this topology, it will be using Ethernet protocol for establishing connection between different
devices that connected with coaxial cable.
Star topology can be used “Fast Etherent” to increase the speed of transmission, this protocal has
been developed as new standards, which always supports 100 Mbps.
Ring Topology: it is basically arranged along with transmission path so that data can passes
through successive station before returning to its origin. It implies, ring consists of nodes that
will be formed into closed circle.

Ring topology can be used Token ring protocol that provide access method involved token-
passing. Through this, each and every computers are connected with each other. Therefore, it
become easier for travle signals around network.
Hierarchical topology: this type of topology can be created from basic ring, bus and start. In
this way, it is known as dural ring of tree on fiber distributed data interface network. In most of
cases, it will be categorised of different equipment and also raanged into hierachical manner.
Hierarchical protocol will be using voice over internet protocol that help for transmissting
singals from one device to another.
3) Recommended the effective media type to be used for wireless and wired communication
The transmission media are considered as physical pathways that connect with computers,
hardware devices and people through network. It is based on the right path which comprise the
information superhighway (Chakraborty and Telgote, 2019). Each and every media has required
the specialization network hardware, which may support in the compatible with other medium. It
would be convenient to construct the network of only one medium.
Wireless communication
The wireless network is basically used radio waves as sole medium for transmitting the
signals from one device to another. There will be no specific wired involved in it. The wireless
media includes microwave, infrared, satellite. These are considered as important medium for

deploying the wireless communication. Wireless is useful for establishing the connection
between network and other hardware devices.
Wired communication
In wired communication, it can be used the different cables which includes unshielded
twisted pair, shielded twisted pair and other type of coaxial cable. These are effectively used in
the data transmission. Copper based cables are inexpensive and easy to work with fiber optic
cable.
4) Identify and discuss the connection that provide through internet access to head.
Internet access is the ability of individuals and enterprises to connect through internet.
Basically, the internet access can be sold by ISP (internet service provider) for delivering the
effective connectively at wide range of data transfer rate through networking technologies
(Chijioke and Chukwudi, 2020). The internet access provide the limited availability but it has
grown rapidly.
From multiple offices to head office, it can provide wireless connection where sending data
in the form of packets. It will be established the connection for sharing large amount of
information from one network to another.

WAN connectively
A wide area network connection is basically used to connect over wide geographic area
without considering public internet. Without WAN, it cannot possible to travel information
within local area network like head office (Diansyah and et.al., 2019). For purpose of business, it
is important for established collaboration with other location. Moreover, it can be included
essential evaluation options such as cost/price, reliability, performance and resiliency.
Devices used in WAN and their functionality
There are different devices used in Wide Area Network and also established the
interconnection with LAN.
Modem: It enabled digital data to be sent over analog medium at the time of transmission
and receiving large amount of data. The functionality of modem is to convert the digital
signals produced by hardware. On the other side. It may send back into digital signals for
input to computer or network connection.
Switch: It is a type of multi-port internetworking devices that mainly used as carriers.
This device is basically switch traffic and operate data link later of OSI model. The
functionality is to establish the connection such as ISDB and other analog dial-up
(Effendi and Efendi, 2020).
Router: It provide the internetworking between WAN, LAN and access different
interface port in order to establish connection to service provider network. This type of
interface may be used serial connection or WAN interfaces.
Access Server: It is based on the mixture of analog and digital interface that always
support for simultaneous users. The functionality of Access server is to provide the
access for information or data that already stored within network system.

Media type used to connect all offices to head office
As per scenario, it is mainly focused on the media that always established connection
between multiple offices to head office. It can be used the Access Server that consist of mixture
analog and digital interface in order to support for simultaneous users interaction with multiple
offices (Effendi and Efendi, 2020). It can perform the suitable functionality is to provide the
access for information or data that already stored within network system.
Network structure
According to scenario, WAL can use packet switching structure that transmits data across
digital network by breaking it down into different packets or blocks. In this way, it become easier
for efficient way to transfer by using different network devices. At certain time, one device send
a file to another one, it also breaks the file down into packets. In this way, it can easily identify
the most efficient use of routing in term of data transmission across network system. The
network device can route the packets to their particular destination where receiving device
reassembles them for use.
It has been justified that packet switching structure based on the synchronous
communication network, which are typically employed. In this way, it can be representing the
real time traffic, when occurred the communication on the basis of real time audio/video data
(Effendi and Efendi, 2020). It would require the data network that capable of guaranteeing the
specific required bandwidth and lower transmission delay. According to case scenario, it has
been recommended to use the packet switching that always maintain synchronous
communication between different devices.
Discuss and recommended routing protocol
A routing protocol specifies that how router communicate with different devices,
distributed information that enable them to select routes between two different nodes on
computer network. The router can be performed the operation to detect traffic on the internet,
data packets are forwarded through network (Effendi and Efendi, 2020). Usually, routing
algorithms identify the specific choice of particular route where gain prior knowledge of network
attached to it directly. Furthermore, it can be used point-to-point protocol that can establish link
and establish the connection between two different nodes across serial cables, trunk line and

other fibre optic links. Point to Point protocol is mainly used in WAN and help to establish
connection over asynchronous and synchronous circuits.
CONCLUSION
From above discussion, it has summarised about the concept of LAN and WAN
technologies that always supports for establishing connection between different network devices.
In this report, it can be identified the specific location of all workstation and interconnecting
hardware devices. Generally, it may considered as LAN topology and identify its current
protocols used in the network design. Furthermore, it has been described about WAN network
design between five offices and head office, identifying the functionality of each devices in
proper manner.
