Introduction
This paper explores the essay outline on feminist theories and the annotated
bibliography to support my argument about the changing face of the feminist debates in a
post-structuralist world epitomized by the essence of intersectionality. I have chosen relevant
literature that will enable me to engage in a compelling debate about the variegated feminist
strands and predict the future of the feminist movement.

In From performativity to precarity, Butler embarks on an examination of the term
gender performativity and the infliction of violence, displacement and malevolence on people
who do not confirm to the established gender roles. This is particularly evident in the nation-
states where the polices and measures are formed that violates, invisibilizes or appropriate the
rights of the individuals who are compelled to identify with the established and stipulated
gender roles.

Gender Trouble by Judith butler is a seminal literature in the third wave feminism.

feminist debate by locating the position of women in the larger discourse of the feminist
struggle for liberation. The strength of the book lies in Butler’s exhortation to break the
boundaries and the allied power structures posed by the fixed identities and her identification
of gender as performance. The weakness of the book lies in the ambiguity for the readers to
understand the position of Butler in regard to her complex arguments.

In Feminist Perspectives on science, Crasnow et al discusses about the interaction of

reinforcing the gender-normative stereotypes.

gender, ad science and technology studies. Haraway argues that the assumptions about the
behaviour and actions of primates by the biologists emanates from the established beliefs and
prejudices about gender in the society. Haraway argues that nature has been constructed and
interpreted through the historical and cultural trajectories. It criticizes the problematic claims
about women’s innate nature in the disciplines of immunology, socio-biology and
primatology.

The Cyborg Manifesto is a polemical account of the international feminist
movement’s attempt to homogenize the experiences of women. There is the introduction of a
new concept of that of the cyborgs where technology seamlessly enmesh with the everyday
human life in such a manner that it becomes normalized. This essay refines the contention of
the socialist feminist culture in a post-modern world by trying to imagine a world with gender
boundaries.

natural sciences and humanities. The weakness of the text is that it might be difficult at times
to follow the argument without an understanding of the key con concepts and broader

intersectionality that has been sidelined in understanding the lifeworld of these women.

Duggabaibah or place of whiteness: Australian feminist and race by Moreton-
Robinson argues about the intersectionality between race, gender, sexual orientations and
whiteness. The author argues that whiteness is dominant and informs the consciousness of the
whites and invisibilizes their privilege. The text harps upon the system of differentiation that
structures and moulds the lives of people. It is the white privilege that normalizes the
oppression of the ethnic minorities.
Essay outline
The proposed title for the essay will be the changing perspectives on gender. Through
these literature, I intend to ensconce my argument about the shift in the feminist discourse
since the era of liberal and radical feminism. Feminist debates have moved far ahead beyond
the framework of the assertion for equality and is now interested in identifying
intersectionality in the shaping of consciousness, pedagogical strands and the assertion of
identity. I will also use bell Hook’s notion on marginal position experienced by Black women
and the double burden of race and gender that have exacerbated their conditions (Ferguson
1990). Feminists are interested to understand the limitations posed by the gender and sexual
roles in a post-structuralist world. There are discussions on the intervention of technology in
the everyday lives of women and an imagination of a world that is without gender
boundaries. The established image of science and nature as objective has been deconstructed
and debunked by feminists by exposing the replication of gendered stereotypes and

prejudices in the canonical framework of science and its interpretation about other biological
creatures. These debates and contentions will enable me to refine my understanding of the
trajectory of the feminist movement and engage in a prognosis about the future of feminist
debates
Conclusion
It can be concluded that in the post-structuralist world, the feminist debates are
concerned about the themes of intersectionality and the privilege of race that is manifested
through the pedagogical practises, consciousness and everyday interaction. The notion of
gender performativity and violence faced by the non-conformists is also highlighted and will
be explored further. The current debates on science highlights the inequalities perpetuated
through the discourse and an exhortation on the need to reimagine and reinterpret discourses.
