Reflection on Two Finance Industry Events: Career Development Insights

This report provides a reflective analysis of two finance industry events attended by the student. MAIN BODY
The first event which I attended was for career orientation that is Derivative market in
Vietnam. I attended this event as the derivative market is a newer and latest concept in the
financial market. In this event the key speaker Dr, Huu shared good knowledge relating to the
opportunities and the relating challenges in the derivatives and the present and the future position
of the market trends (Adam, Marcet and Nicolini, 2016). Another event which I attended was the
Trader’s Fair 2019 which was organized on 9 November and was categorized under the category
of industry event. This event was helpful for me because under this event I was able to meet
different types of people which were mainly financial traders and analysts from different
industries. Both the event helped me in learning the employability skills to build my career in
financial field.
With the first event I experienced that the most important qualities which are necessary
for building the career in the derivative market is the integrity, communication and positive work
ethics. All these skills are necessary because integrity refers to as the honesty to oneself and a
person with integrity has guts to admit the mistakes and try to rectify those mistakes. Another
quality is good communication which is very necessary in field of finance (Tran, 2018). The last
one is the work ethics. These ethics are very necessary due to the fact that if the person is not
using morally correct ways of working then doing business in financial field is useless. With the
assessment of another event I experienced that doing a job and building a career are two different
aspect. The underlying reason behind this fact is that the job is defined as the work through
which one earns money. On the other hand, career is the one which is built on the passion, skill
and education of the person. Thus, with this I experienced that I need to build the career in the
financial field and not just do the job.
With the first event I analysed that this event helped me on focusing the fact that the
learning is a continuous process. This is because of the reason that there are many new and
advance changes taking place in the business environment and the future is uncertain. That is
anything can change at any time which means that the person needs to adapt to them in order to
be competent in this highly competitive world (Pham, Nguyen, and Le, 2015). Also, with this I
improved my decision- making skills and analytical skills. This is majorly because of the fact
that in derivative the decision needs to be taken on the spot and for this it is very necessary that I
have the capability that I take right decision at the right time. From the analysis of the second

event I with this event I was able to learn that for dealing in the stock market it is very necessary
to have good communication skills. This is because of the reason that the stock market runs
every minute and with delay of even seconds the person can incur huge amount of loss. Also, for
working in this field of business the professional working and ethics which I learnt from weekly
topics was very helpful (Ringwald and Dondorp, 2015). This is majorly because of the reason
that stock market involves use of much unethical practice so I need to be very concern about the
use of ethical and moral principles. Also, with this event I learnt that in stock market before
investing in the market it is very essential to do the market research on our own and not to trust
any other people sayings. Thus, the decision of buying or selling the stock must be completely on
myself only and not on the opinions of others. Also, the stock market is not very predictable and
many changes take place in the uncertain way. Therefore, it is very necessary for me to have
complete knowledge of the stock market.
From both the event the major lesson learnt is that the communication is very effective in
undertaking any job or career be it in derivatives or in stock market or any other field. The
communication is so important that it has also expanded through way of social media
communication. This is the latest trend in communicating with others. this social media helped
me in sharing my knowledge and also can help me in interacting the consumers. Also, this
communication is very fast and not consumes much of time. With this communication is very
simplified as the people can use blogs and other method which in less time communicates with a
large number of people. The positive aspect of the event was that there are many necessary skills
and abilities for dealing in finance industry such as but the major is the use of ethical practices.
For this there are two different approaches of ethical working that is descriptive and normative
which states that all the working needs to be in correct and appropriate manner.
With the help of assessment of both the event it was concluded that these events will help
in future development of myself. This is pertaining to the fact that I assessed that for developing
the future the most important thing is to set the goal. This is necessary pertaining to the fact that
if there will be some goal then I will have some direction that in which I have to go and for
which I have to direct my working in direction of goals accomplishment. Also, for building the
career in the financial filed I will need to focus on time management (Almenberg and Dreber,
2015). As a result of this I will need to focus on the different strategies for managing time like
setting deadlines, recording all the due dates, creating a to do list and many other related things.
