Overall revenue of the company as can be seen from the above income statement has fluctuated
significantly over the last few years. In fact out of the last five years the company earned

maximum amount of revenue in 2014 with AUD 60,952 million. In comparison the revenue of
the company has reduced to AUD 56,726 million in 2018. Thus, instead of increasing the
revenue of the company has decreased in last four years by almost 7% (Fazzini, 2018).
However, one positive that can be pointed out form the ratio analysis is the fact that the
company’s gross profit ratio has increased in each year. In 2014 it was 27.03% which has
improved to 29.03% in 2018. However, the inability of the company to generate positive
operating income as the company has failed to earn positive operating income in all of the last
five years (Easton and Sommers, 2018). The management must take necessary steps to reduce
the operating expenditures to improve its operating income. The net operating loss as can be seen
has increased in each year to stand at AUD 9,291 million. Net income of the company from
continuing operations has also declined in each subsequent year since 2014 to currently stand at
AUD 1,676 million. Compared to a net profit ratio of 4.03% in 2014 the company only managed
to earn 2.95% (Dalnial et. al. 2015).
Observation:
Thus, from the above discussion it is clear that the financial performance of Woolworths Group
Limited has deteriorated significantly over the last few years.
