Topic
The selected topic for the research project is “The financial challenges of youth in education
business”.
Introduction
In the modern world, education has become the most essential aspect for the people. In the
United Kingdom, most of the education institutions are offering better education facilities by
making use of new technologies. This has increased the financial burden on the youths of the
United Kingdom. Due to the use of new technologies and developed facilities in the educational
institution, the management are charging more fees from the youths (Stromquist and Monkman,
2014). Most of the youths of the United Kingdom are facing challenges to meet the financial
needs of the organization. Due to this, most of the youths are not able to continue their education.
Abstracts
The UK education industry has seen various different startups trying to disrupt the business
environment that has for so long preserved the many changes occurring in it. By 2016, there
were as many as four different companies that had already followed the principles of digital
disruption in an attempt to help the students who come to UK, both from abroad as well as the
locals who stay in certain regions in hope of better educational standards. Contrary to this
attitude, is the fact that UK still remains one of the most powerful countries when it comes to
providing quality education; most of which comes at a great price, literally. Students visiting the
United Kingdom in search for inexpensive education have for a long time now faced different
challenges, both from economic as well as social conditions persisting in the nation. With
increased emphasis on the conditions that have shown to grow stronger over the years, this study
has tried to focus on the more negative aspects regarding the various difficulties that both UK
born students as well as expats have faced in the nation.

Rational of the study
In the United Kingdom, the main issues of the youths are to meet and overcome the financial
challenges of the education business. Most of the educational institution in the United Kingdom
are providing the modern facilities and at the same time, are making use of new technologies to
provide better education to the youths. In order to provide better education service, the
management are charging higher fees from the youths. In present time, education has become
expensive, as all the educations are focused to make more use of technology, which is increasing
the financial burden on the youths (Carcillo and Königs, 2015). Education has also become
expensive due to increase in the rate of inflation in the country.
Methodology
Methodology helps in conducting the research project in a systematic manner. There are two
types of research approach; deductive approach and inductive approach. This research project
will make use of the deductive approach, as this will help in analysing abundance of sources,
which will help in conducting the project effectively and efficiently (Alvesson and Sköldberg,
2017). Additionally, there are three types of research philosophy, namely positivism, realism and
interpretivism. In order to conduct the research project, the researcher will select positivism
research philosophy, as it will help in gathering authentic and valid data for the research topic.
The researcher has used both the primary and secondary data collection methods. In case of
primary data collection, the researcher has focused on collecting observation regarding the
financial challenges of youth in education business. In the case of the secondary data collection
method, the researcher has used different sources such journals, articles, books and others
(Sekaran and Bougie, 2016). This will help in conducting the research project in an effective
manner.
Importance of study
This research project will help in identifying the challenges of youths in education business.
Additionally, this research will also help in identifying the skills that are required to enhance the
reflective practices. It is important for the youths to enhance the skills and knowledge that will
help in gaining more knowledge for the reflective practices. In order to gain proper educational

research project will also provide various recommendations to mitigate the financial challenges.

Literature Review
The motive of this literature review is to reflect the various issues that the youth of UK is facing
in the recent time while entering the education sector. In addition, the literature review also
reflects the issues that the education business is facing because of financial crisis.
As mentioned by Kezar et al., (2015), the concept of financial challenges defines the various
limitations that an individual can face because of financial crisis. It can be anything and
everything; the individual may not be able to afford the expense that is required for continuing
his/her education. The main aspect of the education business is to provide the basic and quality
education. The education business must help individuals in building morals and ethics to sustain
his/her life in the society. As education is one of the basic needs of any individual, it is one of the
largest business chains that can exist. Business and education run hand in hand, resulting in the
education business facing a downfall in the economy of UK. The current political scenario is
creating pressure on the education institute to raise their fees and this is creating a negative drive
within the youth in continuing their education. Due to the inflationary prices in the economy, the
cost of education offered in UK has also shown significant increase. In support to this, Kezar et
al., (2015) mentions that increase in the level of unemployment due to political disturbances like
BREXIT, has also contributed in increasing the price of education. Majority of the students in
UK are from different countries and simultaneously have been found working to afford their
education expenses. As a result of this, the youth have to make arrangements for their
educational expenses as well as bear the consequences on failing to do so.
Another factor, as identified by Kezar et al., (2015), which is limiting the youth in getting proper
education are the Universities that are planning for implementing advanced technologies in the
educational structure; thereby having a direct impact on the increase of the University.. Most of
the students are facing these issues as they don’t have any income opportunities to facilitate their
education. The old ideology of writing the notes in black and white and mugging up the
documentations are getting replaced by modern process of education with the help of
technological advancement, through e-learning. The Universities are getting more dependent on

the technological education systems and this is again raising the price of education facility,
which most of the students are failing to afford. The taxation in education also gets raised
because of the politically unstable situation, which is affecting a huge number of youth in
receiving their proper education.
Various theories have been identified by scholars and researchers to explain the nature of
education system prevailing in UK. As explained by Berlyne, J. (2018), the theory of Academic
Capitalism says that colleges and universities are non-profit seeking organizations that are
regulated by the funds received from the governmental structures acting in the economy. With
the passage of time, the dependency on governmental findings became limited and dependency
on funding from private sector and industries increased to properly regulate the education
system. According to Berlyne, J. (2018), the theory of education administration slowly got
separated from the state and government enterprises and became closer to the market practices.
As rightly pointed out by Sarhan et al., (2018), education and knowledge have recently become a
commodity, which is being sold like other commodities by the education institutes. Institutes are
treating their courses as products and services, manufacturing them, integrating innovative

youth or the students are asking for free education from the government because of heavy
increase in the education cost which the students are unable to provide. Career oriented students
and students interested in supporting their family are unable to do so, due to limited financial
resources and high rate of expenditure incurred on education. On the other hand, Sarhan et al.,

(2018) says that international students are getting half education as they are giving up their
education because of rise in the education fees. The technological intervention within the
education business is creating a force that is increasing the quality of the education but on the
other hand, it is restricting many financially backward families to fetch that quality education for
their children.
The operation system of the educational institutes is getting hampered because of the political
instability which the government of UK must look after and also must solve the crisis that they
are facing. UK is the education hub for the globe and because of inflation the performance of the
colleges and universities are getting affected. Though the education institutes are providing high
quality of education and knowledge, the youth because of increased unemployment are getting
restricted from availing those services that their education institutes are providing. The increased
fees of the universities are making the students to get drown by the debts which are affecting the
economy of the UK market in creating economic growth and stability.

Evaluate own practice in subject specific
Professional debates can be defined as a disciplined and formal competition, which people with
individual perspectives on a specific topic and areas represent in front of others. It is a form of
productive discussion so that effective results could be achieved from the debate. Participating in
a professional debate could help people in various ways. Debates help an individual to practice
and demonstrate critical thinking capability of an individual on the given area (Hays, 2016).
Being engaged in professional debates help individuals to develop a wider understanding on a
particular topic. Ina broader sense, debate offers preparation for efficient participation in a
society with delegated government. Debates develop a sense of leadership and knowledge of
team management and time management. Debates also help to widen perspectives and
knowledge of the audiences by providing them with intensive evaluation of important
contemporary issues (Hatch, 2018). Topic of this study and thus related previous debates has also
widened knowledge and understanding of the current and prior financial challenges faced by
students in availing effective education along with reasons of developing financial challenges.
Peer discussion
Reflection on practice with peers and peer learning is not a single educational policy. This
encounters a wider sweep of relative and different activities. For instance, peers or researchers
from varied Universities have recognized that ten different models of peer learning are available
in the market. Generally in peer learning, students and teachers participate to evaluate and
propose both content and individual concerns (Hsia et al., 2016.). This is one kind of peer
learning model; other kinds of models are private group discussions, seminars, educational
counselling, peer-evaluation schemes, collective projects, community activities, workplace
monitoring and others. Practice with peers or peer learning provide opportunities to students to
learn effectively by discussing their concepts on subjects to others and by engaging in operations
in which they could achieve knowledge from their peers. Students develop capabilities in
managing and planning learning functions, working within a team, providing and receiving
feedbacks along with examining of their individual learning level.

On the other hand, engaging in practice with peers also helps teachers a lot. Teachers involving
in a peer learning scheme or practice with peers get proper knowledge and understanding
regarding team meetings. Engagement in peer learning helps teachers or experts to share good
practices with others as well as helps in development of staff knowledge (Stronge, 2018). On the
other hand, engagement in the peer learning helps teachers to gain self-confidence, observation
skills and knowledge regarding modifications to teaching and learning policies. Prior peer
learning and practice with peers about the current financial difficulties faced by the students
while availing education helped to clear doubts in this area.

Identify own strengths and areas for improvement in relation to a selected area of interest
The selected area of interests are working with others and learning and teaching methods.
Personal strengths and areas for improvements are discussed below.
Personal skills and strengths identified by me while working with others are communication
skill, team management skill and interpersonal skill. These three skills in me are effective
enough to management tasks during working with professionals. With effective communication
skill I am able to interact with others about all the requirements of a project in last academic
session. This skill helps me to clear all my doubts while taking responsibility for the given tasks
(Cottrell, 2015). On the other hand, my team management skill has helped me to manage conflict
and in providing fruitful solutions to the problems associated to given tasks. Individual needs and
problems have been effectively identified by me for this interpersonal skill and team
management. Although my time management skill is not so effective and needs to be developed
more in future. While I am working with others within a team, time management is an essential
factor to finish all the tasks within given time and get more efficient results. This area needs to
be developed as soon as possible.
On the other hand, my learning and teaching skills are more or less effective. I am able to
understand any new concepts and theories very easily. This skill provides me confidence as a
learner. Though I am not able to dictate or deliver my understanding of a new subject or concept
to others, which states my incapability as a good teacher. This area needs extra care and practice
of regular teaching methods (Cottrell, 2015). With these practices and concern, I will be able to
cater effective knowledge to others.
Evaluate the potential impact on own practice of new learning from investigation of an area of
interest

Development of time management skill will help me in completing all my future works within
stipulated time. On the other hand, time management helps an individual to become more
competent in managing and planning requirements of various tasks. Time management develops
individual effectiveness. Proper teaching ability on the other hand is helpful for guiding all the
team members in a proper way. A perfect teacher should be able to cater knowledge according to
the requirements of each student so that they will be able to understand main essence of theories,
concepts and tasks. This individual skill development will help me to become a teacher or
expertise in my own academic career. These practices and developments will help me to achieve
all the essential responsibilities and characteristics of a teacher such as a guide, dictator, helper
and influencer. Precisely, it could be said that my professional capabilities will develop in future.

Development based on own findings
It is observed that the connection between the fees and cost associated with education system are
gradually fading. In order to resolve this dilemma, teaching practices has to be improved so that
students are able to gain better knowledge and gain satisfaction regarding the fact that they are
not being deceived by the educational institutions. Each teacher has to take effective steps for
enhancing performance and ensuring better practices. The methods that are to be used for
ensuring better practices are peer observations, session evaluation, staff development plans,
vocational updating and some others. Peer observations are beneficial for gathering perceptions
of co-workers who are working in the same industry and are facing more or less same type of
situations. The other plans such as session evaluation, staff development plans, vocational
updating are also required for developing knowledge and ensuring better performance.
After the completion of the project, I have come to know that there are several challenges faced
by students while pursuing higher studies. However, this scenario is not only applicable in the
case of higher education but also is applicable in the case of basic education also. Increasing
