Fire Aid: Justice, Change, and the Global Community Project

JUSTICE AND CHANGE IN THE GLOBAL WORLD – FIRE AID
INTRODUCTION
The primary objective of the private and public non-profit
organizations or faith based groups is to serve the interests and needs
of the community in which they operate, as well as provide assistance
in their development so as to bring about a change in the global
community as a whole. Such non-profit organizations and faith based
groups are essential to the society as they serve the common good or
public interest through activities and functions that promote and
ensure social well-being of the people (Askeland 2015). Fire Aid is one
such organization based in the United Kingdom, which works towards
the provision of safety against fires to people in over 50 countries.
COMPANY BACKGROUND
The organization is located in the United Kingdom and is primarily
charity based. The company operates to provide sustainable and
ethical donations for the purpose of distributing fire and rescue
equipment as well as training for fire protection in over 50 countries
of the world (Fire-aid.org 2020). The company operates with the help
of a unique database for making the donations as well as facilitating
the members to share their expertise, equipment, funding and best
practice in order to form partnerships and joint projects.

• Gaia Volunteer Fire and Civil Protection – Provision of fire aid in the
form of equipment and training
• Bangladesh England Safety and Fire Education (BESAFE) – Charity to
provide and promote community safety as well as fire education
• Staffordshire Emergency Services Humanitarian Aid Association –
Supply of fire equipment and training
• Services and donations in Ukraine – Donation and charity initiatives
• Ghana National Fire Service – Training provided to over 300 fire
fighters
• UNHCR Dadaab Refugee camp – Deployment of specialist team
• Green Goddess Odyssey – Setting up of voluntary fire brigade to
prevent and protect from forest fires in the mountains of Western
Serbia.

Tajikistan, Thailand, Romania, Zimbabwe, Republic of Moldova,
Montenegro, Germany and Republic of Ireland.

The company has been chosen because of its capacity to serve the
common good of over 50 nations in the world. The company promotes
common good not only in the local community of the United Kingdom
but also globally in the following ways (Fire-aid.org 2020):
• Providing guidelines for sustainable and ethical use of donations.
• Working together on joint projects, sharing best practice and providing
a space for discussion for those working on similar projects.
• Highlighting the work of such organisations, both within the UK and
internationally.
• Developing, hosting and managing a database which looks at past,
current and planned development projects.
• Identifying funding streams to assist with the delivery of international
projects.
• Publicly raising issues as deemed appropriate by members for the
purpose of serving the needs of the global community.
• Providing strategic advice at government level to assist with the
development of policies, strategies and legislation.
As an accountant, my role in the organization will be to manage the
funds gathered from different regions in the world, in a systematic
manner. Furthermore, I would also be required to assist in the allocation
of the financial resources in specific projects that require urgent
attention. The management of the database for the charities and
donations also needs to be facilitated by the accountant.
