SCENE AND PRIMARY SURVEY
It is essential for medical staff to conduct scene and
primary survey at the time of occurrence of any injury or
uncertainty. It is the initial stage where first responsibility
of medical practitioner is to evaluate the injury with
usage of DR. ABC in order to check whether the
situation is life threatening or it is normal. DR. ABC
includes five different steps which helps the medical staff
to check patient's conditions. DR. ABC denoted as
Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and circulation. It
involves number of actions which are required to be
taken by medical staff that are described under beneath:
 Identify and reduce risk from the environment
 Check mechanism of injured person body
 Identify patients in numerous so as to arrange
medical help accordingly
EVALUATE POTENTIAL DANGERS
Check patients condition and surrounding area for
checking level of danger that may impact patient's life.
This evaluation can be done on the basis of following
points:
 Vehicular traffic
 Harmful gases and fumes
 Chemical spills
 Falling object in surrounding
CHECK LEVEL OF RESPONSE
 Identify that injured person is conscious or not
 Try to communicate with them for finding out their
identity
 Ask them to move their body part ion order to check actual
condition and level of pain
CALL FOR HELP
 Ask for medical help in first aid kit is not
available
 Be active while providing information related
to location and incident as well
 If medical support is not available them stay
with victim for supporting in order to deal with
the situation
CHECK AIRWAYS
Check whether patient is able to breath or not while
victim is unresponsive.
Open mouth of victim to check airway is open or not.
Press chest of victim if airways is blocked in order to
make them breath effectively
Check again response of person to identify whether
airways are open or not and also posture of victim in
such a manner makes easier for them to breath.
CPR ON AN ADULT, CHILD AND BABY
For treating an unresponsive patient CPR is the way which can be
used by medical staff to treat patient who is not able to breath
properly. It involves three major steps which is required to be
performed by medical staff that includes Call, Pump and blow. This
is an helpful method that contributes in recovering victim quickly.
DEALING WITH EXTERNAL BLEEDING
 Use gloves and clean victims wound in order to check
any kind availability of dust or any foreign particles
that might affect wound.
 Carefully use gauge and cotton to minimise blood
flow
 Ask victim to lay down for reducing pressure of blood
DEALING WITH MINOR INJURY OF PATIENTS
Treatment is necessary for every wound that be might be minor or major. Minor injuries includes burn, small cuts, scalds,
small splinters, grazes etc. which can be treated by using some preventive measures which are stated below:
Burn: Keep immersed area in running water and cool area. Then cover it properly and do non fluffy dressing on burnt
area.
Cuts and other injuries: Clean cuts and other injured area with basic antiseptic by using gloves. Apply ointment on
wound and give pain killer to patient if required. Ask patient to check other areas which might be affected while incident
so that they could be treated at the same time only.
