Article - Flexibility is the key to save the tourism industry.
Writer – Digby Jones
Year – 2001
Discussion Topic: “Management is the pursuit of flexibility.”
According to Digby Jones, the current tourism industry is in need for flexibility as the
current implications in the United Kingdom tourism industry are severely bad. After two
continuous years of decrease in the customers, the tourism industry is demanding serious
changes to settle the imbalance in the earnings of the organization (Jones, 2001). According
to the Management Team Learners, most of the members agreed with the fact, as the tourism
industry is going through a humongous transformation. The organizations have to develop
plans and strategies that will address the current needs of the tourism industry and for the
organizations to not suffer such consequences, there is a need for quick changes which are
flexible.
Though there were few who disagreed with the concept of implementing instant
changes, according to the conditions in the United Kingdom, the organization needs to make
many modifications, else they will experience a bigger disaster. The reduction in overseas
visitors have to be increased and special modifications have to be made in the transport and
infrastructure of the industry.
According to my opinion, the United Kingdom tourism industry have to get inspired
by the other flourishing tourism industry like Europe, and adapt their flexible approaches
which they have implemented a few years back, after identifying the decrease in the
customers. Therefore, the main approach that the tourism industry has to formulate should
address the new trends in the industry both demographical and technologically. These
changes demand a flexible approach, as they will change with the passing time.
