ABSTRACT
Physical and emotional abuse in children creates a high negative impact on the proper
growth and development. This can create a negative impact on their mental along with physical
health. There is a need to create awareness about child abuse and should take any consideration
for delivering proper care and support to children who have suffered physical or emotional abuse
in their life. Through providing care and support it can help improve their quality of life.

INTRODUCTION
Emotional abuse refers to a form of abuse that is very emotional in nature rather than
physical abuse. This is the way to control by using emotion, to criticize, shame, embarrass,
frighten, manipulate and blame another person. It can be difficult to identify but create a higher
level of seriousness and damage than physical abuse. It can mentally harm an individual and
lower self-esteem during dating and marriage. It is common and also occurs in the family,
relationship, co-workers, and friends. Physical abuse refers to intentionally causing trauma or
injury to another person by physical contact. This can create a risk of health on the victim and
result in physical harm. It can also cause harm during sexual relationships or romantic
relationships. Dating and marriage are some of the higher risks for causing physical abuse within
the individual. No individual has the right to abuse another person physically or mentally. There
is a need to understand the concept of physical and emotional abuse that can lead to creating high
effectiveness on children in the UK (Jaffee et. al., 2018). There is a high impact on a lifestyle and
mental health and should be insured for better and effective growth to live life effectively.

The rationale of the Research
The significance of research provides information about the reason and impact of the
physical and emotional abuse on children within the United Kingdom. It allows researchers and
individuals to get an understanding of the reason and cause of emotional and physical abuse. It

also has proper information that can help to provide understanding about the reason for physical
and emotional abuse within children in the UK and can make strategy and intervention programs
which can allow to reduce and minimize the impact of physical and emotional abuse in children
in the UK. In this, there is also a need to make awareness and policy which can be effective and
should we follow how to protect children from physical and emotional abuse.
Through the research data, it can provide a different understanding about what is
emotional and physical abuse and what are the reason, concepts, and interventions which can
allow to reduce the impact and provide better improvement regarding health and safety to
children within the UK (Steptoe et. al., 2020). This is important because there are many cases of
physical and emotional abuse within the country that create a negative impact on children's
mindset and create a negative impact on their mental health and impact their proper growth and
development. Understanding the concept of physical and emotional abuse can create awareness
within people to identify what exactly physical and emotional abuse relates to. It also helps to
ensure that children should not get impacted or face any type of physical or emotional abuse
further.
According to research, it has been identified that there was about 19,847 counseling
session to children within the UK was related to physical and emotional abuse which was
referred by the external agencies during March 2019 (Child abuse extent and nature, England
and Wales: year ending March 2019, (2019)). It has been observed that there were about 4,810
children in the country who have faced the risk of abuse and neglect which was looked after by a
local authority. Through understanding concept, impact and intervention can allow people to
contribute in practices to provide better health safety to children and reduce or minimize the
negative impact of physical and emotional abuse with children in the UK (Clemens et. al., 2018).
This can also provide understanding and knowledge to everyone which can create awareness and
provide a positive impact through improving knowledge. This can help in achieving better health
and social care for the child and who are facing or have been faced physical or emotional abuse.
This can be helpful in their proper growth and development to live life effectively.
Literature Review
According to James Scott (2012), child maltreatment refers to the physical, emotional,
sexual abuse which is either commercial or exploitation of children which can lead to potential
harm. It can also lead to negative health development, survival for dignity which can create a

directive impact on their growth and development (Burton et. al., 2018). This can also be
recognized as emotional abuse, physical abuse, and neglect. There is various type of
maltreatment of children which can be recognized in the United Kingdom children. This includes
emotional, physical, and sexual abuse which are creating an impact on Children's growth and
development and leads to the reason mental health issues. Physical harm and various other
problems can lead to creating a negative impact on their proper growth and development. This
can be a specific offense where a neglecting child can create inflicting harm we should need to
take into consideration and reduce and minimize it for providing better safety to children. Child
abuse is generally defined within a different category like sexual abuse, physical abuse, and
emotional abuse which can create offense in modern times, female genital mutilation, human
trafficking, witnessing domestic violence and child sexual exploitation, and many more (Morriss,
2018). According to the article child abuse have the aim to provide individuals with data sources
that are provided by National statics with collaborating with different departments like the
Department of Education (DOE), National Association for People Abused in Children (NSPAC),
and others.
According to Meghan Elkin (2020), child emotional abuse refers to cause severe and
persistent adverse effects in children's emotional development which can involve conveying to
children that they are unloved, worthless, inadequate, and are not able to meet the needs of any
other person. This can be effective and can create silencing them from making fun and not
making proper communication to help in their proper growth and development. This can impose
children in a great expectation which can relate to creating mental impact and limitation on their
learning and participation in normal social interaction (Yoon et. al., 2018). This can frequently
create a danger and exploitation of children that can also lead to create a depression and provide
thoughts of suicide.
According to Graham Kelly (2000), the impact of child maltreatment create a negative
impact on their children's growth and development. This can include the physical and emotional
abuse that is highly efficient in a manner that creates a high negative impact on their mental
health. This leads to the exploitation of children and creates mental disorders. Many children
were mental disorders due to facing physical abuse and emotional abuse. This also increases
depression within them that is natural, effective, and associated with disturbance in their mental
status (Deighton et. al., 2018). Experience of emotional and physical abuse can lead to creating a

high negative impact on the mental status which can create depression and various mental
disorders which are due to experienced physical or emotional abuse in their childhood. There is a
high impact of child abuse later in life which can create the need for support from external
agencies for providing better care and support to improve their quality of life. They also need
better care and relationship which can help them to support in their performing different
activities. This can also lead to creating stress and problems due to emotional and physical abuse
either in their family or any organization. In this, there is a need to ensure their better growth and
development and help in removing stress and problem which can be due to fear, depression, and
not having better communication with others (Kondo et. al., 2018). In this, there is a need to
provide better relationships and care, and support which can allow them to leave effectively.
Methodology and methods
Research methodology is defined as an appropriate procedure and technique which is
helpful to identify, select, process, and usually analyses the data and information which is
reliable and validated with the associated topic. In this research methodology, the main focus is
taking on the topic of emotional and physical abuse among children. In addition to this, the
research methodology plays a vital role in the research paper where the section allowed the
reader to create and evaluate the study with the aspect of validity and reliability (Jacobson et. al.,
2019).
Primary and secondary research
Primary research is defined as the source which is helpful to collect and gather information
through direct evidence about the people, events, and phenomena that it is usually researching.
Moreover, the primary research will usually be helpful for the analysis with face-to-face
communication and many more. In addition to this, the main purpose of primary research is to
extract the information and answer the research question which has been asked during the
conduction of research. As per this, the primary research is information that is usually gathered
with the help of a self-conducted research method.
Secondary research is defined as a concept of the factor which is available in the
descriptive manner that includes interpretation of data, evaluation for the analysis of information
from the primary sources. Moreover, some of the common examples which are associated with
the secondary research are books, articles, and documentaries that are helpful to produce the
information relevant to emotional and physical abuse. Encyclopedias and textbooks are also

helping together with the information as per the aspect of summary (Rodríguez-Domínguez et.
al., 2020).
Qualitative and quantitative research
Qualitative research is usually associated with numerical data where the analysis is based
on the theory, concept, evaluation, analysis, and many more. It is usually used to discover and
analyze the depth of understanding of someone's experiences thought’s opinion and also used to
provide the intervention of the strategies regarding any problem. The most common method
which is used in the qualitative method is individual, interview group, discussion, focus group,
and behavioral observation. Whereas, quantitative research is consisting of numbers and
statistics that are based on graph numeric and many more. The quantitative method allows the
reader to measure the variable and test the hypothesis (Tanwir et. al., 2021).
Selection of research method
To conduct this research, the mixed method is usually followed to research because it is
more reliable and validated as per the accomplishments of the research topic. The mixed-method
usually follows the qualitative and quantitative methods to collect and gather the information
properly.
Data collection method
The data collection method is usually focused on the interviews, observation, and focus
groups that share their experiences and thought that is associated with emotional and physical
abuse. In the context of the quantitative method, the questionnaires are usually followed to
extract the data from the people (Tayebi Abolhasani et. al., 2019).
Use of excel in data analysis and presentation of data
The use of excel in data analysis and for the presentation of data is appropriate because it
shows the graphics and graphs to interpret and create understanding among the people that are
related to emotional and physical abuse. It covers the impact of emotional and physical abuse
among the children and shows various interventions or strategies to reduce the problem
(Zangirolami-Raimundo et. al., 2018).
Ethical issues
Some ethical issues can include confidentiality in which there is a need to ensure that private
information should be confidential and should not be shared with any other individual rather than
an authorized person. Informed consent is also necessary which can allow individuals to get

information and should approve that treatment for information. Data storage is another ethical
issue that should be taken into consideration and should be maintained effectively for further use.
Avoidance of deception should be taken into consideration and effectively manage that should
not create any negative impact on an individual (Dyregrov et. al., 2018).
Expected findings
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that there is a large number of cases of
physical abuse and emotional abuse of children in the United Kingdom. There is a need to take
into consideration the abuses and take effective measures like following the Policy and taking
strict action to reduce the impact. There is also a need to follow all the guidelines and ensure that
there should not be any type of physical abuse or emotional abuse to the children. Through the
research, it has been identified that people need for understanding the physical and emotional
abuse and negative impact on children's growth and development. There is a need to take
preventive measures to reduce and minimize the risk of occurrence of child emotional abuse and
physical abuse for their better growth and development.
