COIT20265 Networking & Information Security Project - FNU Analysis

This project explores the integration of Kali Linux and Sophos UTM for network security. Kali Linux, a Debian-based distribution, is used for penetration testing, security monitoring, and forensics. Its advantages include advanced penetration testing tools, being a free Linux kit, and supporting various information security assignments. However, it can be difficult to detect applications and may have limited hardware driver support. Sophos UTM (Unified Threat Management) combines network hardware and security features to protect against malware, spam, and phishing. It is suitable for small businesses and offers features like intrusion prevention, virus scanning, load balancing, and VPN capabilities. The project outlines the installation processes for both Kali Linux and Sophos UTM within a virtual machine environment, detailing the steps for configuring memory, hard disk, and network settings. The conclusion emphasizes Kali Linux's focus on security distribution and UTM's translucent approach to network assessment, highlighting the importance of encryption and secure network principles such as confidentiality, authentication, integrity, and non-repudiation.
