This dissertation provides a comprehensive socio-legal analysis of female foeticide in India, with specific reference to the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PNDT Act). It explores the concept, jurisdiction, historical background, and factors contributing to female foeticide, examining its consequences and relevant legislation. The study delves into constitutional and legal aspects, judicial pronouncements, and international approaches to addressing the issue. It further investigates judicial approaches through case law analysis and offers conclusions and suggestions based on both study findings and survey results, including potential improvements to existing laws and societal attitudes.
