Abstract
The food ordering application was designed with procedure of designing that was used with the help of
heuristic principle or the usability principle. Aim for implementing this food ordering application “Food
Corner” usability principles were used while designing overall application. Accordingly, in the sector of
development, functionality will change quickly. The market for mobile components was growing
continuously nowadays. For getting success in the website or the application the main concern is about
the usability and the security issues of the application. The research paper has introduced the catalog of
the usability guidelines of mobile applications. The application was demonstrated with the use of
applying the usability principles in two parts, such as mobile application development and the mobile
website development (Shitkova, et al, 2010).
Introduction
The designed application named “Food Corner” was based on heuristic or the usability principle. Its
design was implemented with the user requirements by which users can order food from this food
ordering application. mainly it was designed with the use of heuristic principles of Jakob Nielsen. In this
application, many facilities were provided to the customers where users can directly order via mobile
devices. The food was divided into four categories such as main course, starters, soft drinks, and desserts.
In this category, the sub menu was also implemented into the other screen. The complete application user
interface was depending on the usability principles. In the following research papers, the user design
models were standardized with the user interface prototype and it will also support to develop the
application so flexible and easy with the help of GUI environment.
The principles of usability will improve the application designs by using the prototype designs of the
application. In this research, prototype was developed was deploying the application into such a good
manner with an easy and effective manner. The application design will be implemented by fulfilling the
requirements of same kinds of application. It is because the suggestions or the ideas were used with the
complete user’s requirements.
Reflection of the Interface Designs
a. User Interface Designs for the application
The food ordering application was designed with the help of usability principles and user requirements.
The principles that were used in the application were written by Jakob Nielsen. There are total of ten
heuristic principles that were used in each screen of the application. These are:
System Visibility: This principle used for the proper and efficient visibility of the system or the
application so that user can feel happy while using this application. It was almost used in every
screen.
User controls: The controlling of the application was so efficient while using it. It was done in
the login and registrations screen.
Preventing errors or issues: For preventing some issues, the application has the functionality for
the error detection by putting the wrong information. It was done in the login and registration
screen referred to as Figure 1.
Matching the whole system with real-world entities: This principle used in the words and the
images that were suitably designed with the proper identification of size and requirements. It was
done almost every screen in the food application.
Helping users to recover recognize and diagnose form the issues or errors: With the help of
this principle, users can able to recognize their error or the issues while using it. For example, the

user is entering wrong information, but the system will be required something else. This was done
in when user will click on logging out functionality and the confirmation message will appear.
Design consistency with standards: With the help of this principle, the designs were
implemented in so consistent form with the standard look and feel of the application. It was done
in every screen with a similar color combination and the proper images.
Recognize screens then recall: With the help of this principle, users can recognize the screen
functionality. It was done on every screen with the functionality of breadcrumbs.
Efficient and flexible to use: With the help of this principle, the application was so flexible and
efficient to use for the users. It was done overall on all screens (Baumel & Muench, 2016).
Artistic and Simple design: With the help of this principle, the screens designs looked cool and
so simply while using it by the end users referred to as Figure 2.
Documentations: With the help of this principle, the required information was provided with the
hints or the placeholders. It was done on the login in, sign up screen with provided helping verbs.
b. How my design meets the user requirements and enhances their experience.
The food ordering application was “Food Corner”. The user requirements were fulfilled in the designed
application. There are some requirements of the users that were fulfilled in the designed application. the
restaurant timing was indicated as:
Lunch: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Dinner: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The restaurant provides the service for six days in the week between Tuesday and Sunday. User indicated
the ten requirements that were necessary to fulfilled in the application. These ten requirements were
indicated as:
Enter table number and the name of the user to begin the order.
Display the main menu of food such as main course, starters, soft drinks, and desserts.
User can able to select the items of foods by adding to the cart for ordering or finalize the order.
Users can view order details and the constancy discounts.
User can able to confirm or edit the order before finalizing the payment credentials.
Users can able to pay amount or the bill via credit cards or the debit cards, no functionality of
cash on delivery was implemented.
User can also view the waiting time and the status of the order.
User can also register themselves into the system or the application with the required or the
personal details including address and the contact details of end users. The address block will
include both type addresses such as postal and residential.
User can also update their personal details that were entered while registration.
Users can view the details of special offers and the constancy discounts details, so that expense of
the ordered food become less.
c. What factors influenced my design, how they influenced it and why?
While influencing the complete designing of food ordering application for specified restaurant that was
named as Food Corner was implemented or developed with the help of heuristic principles.
- Restrictions: While designing the food application, there are some restrictions for users that were
called unauthorized users. They can’t access the application with no valid credentials of food
application.
- User Requirements: While designing the food application, the requirements given by the users
were implemented or deployed with the help of heuristic or the usability principles. In the
application, the users who stated their requirements for the application were fulfilled in the
application.

- Design Principles: While designing the food application, the heuristic or the usability principles
were implemented in every screen of the designed application. there are many usability principles
such as system visibility, error prevention, and many more. These are explained above “a” part of
the second point.
- Business and organizational requirements: While designing the food application, the overall
requirements of the users were used while designing the application.
- Competitors: The application was designed by considering the latest functionality that was
recently used in the application. So, these points were discussed with strategies of the markets or
the upcoming environment.
d. Discussion on similar interfaces.
The application for ordering food was completely designed by the help of heuristic or the usability
principles of Nielsen. Our application was designed with the latest technology that was used to implement
the upcoming forms. Our application was compared with the application named Deliveroo: Restaurant
Delivery. This application was designed by providing fast delivery in the restaurant itself and door to
door delivery service. In our application user can book any food at any time and at any cost. Color
combination and image size were indicated in the consistent form. The proper breadcrumbs functionality
was also provided referred to as Figure 3.
Features:
- Similar: In our application user can able to book order from anywhere at any time and in the
other or the similar application is also providing the same kind of service with proper
identification.
- Better: In our application, user will able to book table before ordering any food via application
but in a similar kind of application, user will not able to book table online. It is the best
functionality and saves time of the users.
- Weaker: In our application, the map functionality is quite good of the similar kind of application
as compared with our application Food Corner.
Conclusion
For ordering the food the application name Local Restaurant was designed to serve the services to the
customers. The customers can order the food and also the table can be ordered by this application. The
implementation of the application is done with the help of the Jakob Nielsen. In the whole report, the
interface was described by the reflection, user requirements, design influences and the usability of the
principle. The application is comparing with the competitor and the research paper. The design and the
competitor are also compared. The application used for the comparison is Deliveroo: Restaurant Delivery
and the result goes that our application is quite better and the most precise and effective.
