INTRODUCTION
Marriott Forest of Arden hotel in Birmingham is visited and it has effectively managed its
resources which has helped in meeting its objectives. It has employed supervisor to manage its
food and beverage operations and also it provides excellent services which helps in providing
better guest satisfaction.
MAIN BODY
Identify and discuss the important skills required in Food and Beverage Operations
Based on my field trip to Marriott Forest of Arden hotel, the key skills that I identified
based on my observation is that the effective communication skills. It is very important to have
goof communication skills so that customers can be handled effectively. Along with that
interpersonal and leadership skill is also essential while managing the team. As the leader is
required to handle and lead the team to efficiently complete the task. Critical thinking is also
necessary in order to give quick response to the guest requests. Another important skill is
problem solving which requires the employee to solve the problems of the guest quickly which
can satisfy the guest.
Impact of trip on my knowledge of Food and Beverage operation
This trip has helped me in grabbing the key knowledge about the food and beverage
operation and tasks performed by it. This sector works on checking the food and beverage
supplies, establishing effective communication with vendors, managing the staff, tracking the
order and its shipment. Also, adhering to the food and safety standards, planning the new recipes
as per the needs of the guests like special dietary needs. Also, it requires professional skills in
respect to forecasting and planning the ordering of food and beverages. So, this trip to Marriott
Forest of Arden hotel has helped me in getting more detailed knowledge and understand about
the Food and beverage operation.
Based on observation, what constitutes good practices in Food and beverage operation
On the basis on my observation the key important practices are, first is focus, the
employee is required to be focussed on the work and should focus on the main things no matter
what happens and needs to implement self control. Second is building strong teams, it is very
essential to have a strong team with effective communication and coordination. Third is serve
better, the staff is required to handle the guests with a smiling face and should make it in their
habits which will enhance the customer satisfaction level. Forth is proper execution, the staff or

manager is required to solve the issues and reduce complexity which will help in proper
functioning of the tasks.
How to develop relevant skills to meet organizational requirements and standards
To develop the above described skills, I will undergo some specific training with respect
critical thinking and problem solving skills which will help in tackling the different situations
that may come across. Also, for improving my communication and team work skills I will
engage myself into activities which requires more communication and also requires working
teams to complete the task. For leadership skills, I will identify my role model and will grab
skills based on it and will also take guidance from teachers.
