AI Summary
This essay reflects on sustainability concerns, focusing on the impact of food production on the environment. It identifies issues such as climate change, food production methods, and water scarcity as key sustainability challenges. The reflection explores the relationship between food processing and the three pillars of sustainability: social, economic, and environmental. It argues that environmental concerns, particularly the increase in greenhouse gas emissions from food production leading to global warming, should be addressed first. The essay highlights the effects of global warming, including disrupted weather patterns, increased storms, and the melting of glaciers, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable practices in food production to mitigate these environmental impacts.

Examples of Sustainability Concerns that I have come across
The process of developing or creating a world in which everyone can live and enjoy a
more fulfilling life to the limits that nature can provide is referred to as sustainability. It involves
an inside view of how our actions can affect future generations. Some of the sustainability issues
that I have faced in my community include climate alteration, power, production of food,
scarcity of water, loss of biodiversity, graduating demographics, geopolitical variations, global
growth and global equity. Human activities have altered the manner in which the atmosphere
functions. For example, cutting down of trees has reduced the amount of rainfall received on the
earth surface. The continuous rise of the average global temperatures is also an evidence of
climate change.
Food Production
According to my understanding, food production is a process through which raw materials
are changed into readymade food to aid in human consumption. The method of food production
can either be carried out locally at home or in the food processing factories. The most exciting
part to me in the food production process is that it in cooperates both scientific and artistic
approaches. I am fascinated by the cleaning process, the first process of food production. This is
because; it puts into consideration basic hygiene thus minimising diseases. Processed food is as
well more comfortable to store and preserve than unprocessed food. This is because; some of the
foods processing techniques help in the preservation of nutritional content for example freezing.

The Relationship between Food Processing and the Three Pillars of Sustainability
Sustainability has three pillars namely; social, economic and environmental. Food
production is a great contributor to the rise in global temperatures. This is due to the increase in
the emission of greenhouse gases in all the stages of the process of food production. Biodiversity
loss and water pollution are also some of the environmental impacts brought upon by the food
production process. Due to the decline of food production in almost the whole world, there is a
need for short and long-term strategies to aid in the creation of the commodity a process which
needs capital to finance it. The chemicals such as pesticides used in the process have also
brought upon some social issues such as reduction in the number of insects like bees which are
by far helpful in the production of honey.
The Sustainability Pillar to respond first
I am to the proposal that the environmental concern in the food production process is
answered first. Food production leads to an increase in global warming, this is due to the rise in
the emission of greenhouse gases. Global warming has many effects which if not sustained can
make human comfort on the planet unbearable. Such effects include interruption of the natural
ocean warmer temperatures and circulations. This alters the world's usual weather patterns thus
leading to an increase in the frequency of storms or hurricanes. The confusion of the world's
weather patterns sometimes leads to flooding. This leads to deaths and diseases. Global warming
also leads to an increase in melting of the world glaciers, small ice sheets which form during
each winter. This tempers with the habitat of cold climate animals such as polar bears.
