13. Cross-Functional Teams in Global Business: You are managing a work team with 10 people on it,
including yourself, representing freight forwarding, accounts receivable, global sales, production,
logistics and senior management. The team members are based in three different countries (your
choice) and are evenly split in terms of gender (male/female). You have one openly gay team
member. You have one queer-phobic team member. You have been put in charge of this team for
the next year and your team’s objective is to make internal business transactions (monetary and
non-monetary) flow seamlessly across borders. In addition to being in regular operational contact
with each other, team members will meet weekly.
a. Can a tool like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assist you in designing and managing
communications within your team? How?
b. What technology would you use to hold meetings with this team? Justify your choice.
c. Would you design a team charter to help you manage this team? Why or why not?
d. If you would employ a team charter to assist in the management of this team, what would
the key elements be?
e. What choices can you make, at the outset of this project, to support a positive team
environment for all team members?
14. Examine the role of the WTO and the IMF in global business. Is their impact, on balance, positive or
negative? Support all your statements with strong and verifiable research.
15. Discuss how trade between Canada and Cuba has changed in the last 10 years and explain why this
has happened. Discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with doing business with Cuba.
Describe at least two different scenarios for the relationship between the two countries in the
future.
Objectives:
Part One: The Report
Research and develop a formal report on the topic you selected.
Develop and apply effective research and organizational skills in preparing a report.
Prepare your report using the outline format, as practiced earlier in the course, as a structure for
your report.
Use the Business Report Template, as provided on eCentennial.
Business Research Report
Use the Business Report Template provided as a guide to preparing your report. The report should include
a cover page, a minimum of four pages of body/text (11 pt font, one inch margins), a maximum of six
pages of body/text, and a reference page containing your citations. You are required to cite at least
three published, validated research sources. There are many sources available in the Library and the
Reference Librarians are waiting to help you find them. You will lose marks for incomplete or poorly
formatted citations, and for incomplete or poorly research assertions. Every fact you state MUST be cited.
Use APA format for your citations, as demonstrated and discussed as part of the template. Further
information on APA style can be found in your textbook. There are also excellent examples available on the
Web.
Gathering Information:
Part of your assignment includes finding appropriate research sources and providing accurate and
appropriately formatted citations (APA style) for each source. A report of this nature should have a
combination of sources. You need at least three unique published, validated sources for your work. ALL
SECONDARY RESEARCH SOURCES SHOULD BE PUBLISHED, regardless of whether they are found online or
in the library. This means that the following Internet sites are NOT appropriate for your secondary
research:
Corporate company websites (these are not published or validated by a third party)
Blogs
You may use Wikipedia as an additional source to the three other secondary research sources that you
find. It must not be the only source. As noted above, three additional published sources must be used.

INDIVIDUAL FORMAL BUSINESS REPORT
Presenting Your Research
It can be appropriate to gather primary research in the form of interviewing experts. The details of your
interview, such as the questions you prepared and the interviewee’s responses, should be included as a
transcript in the Appendix of your report. Interviews should also be properly cited using APA style. These
sources should be IN ADDITION to your secondary research - the three published sources you
find and use.
USE EXTREME CAUTION when doing research online. Please note that many students in the past have
received zero for plagiarism. Any work that you submit MUST be written by you, NOT cut and paste from
an Internet site or from some other source. If you do use a quote from a web site, it must be properly cited
within the text and on the reference page. Work that is submitted and deemed to be plagiarized will be
given a zero grade.
The report can be resubmitted after it is graded the first time and if appropriate changes are made, the
grade may be increased. Reports given a zero grade due to plagiarism, can be resubmitted and will be
graded. The final report grade will be the report grade upon resubmission, multiplied by 0.5.
