ABSTRACT
Foundation year program in UK are developed to enhance the specific subject knowledge
to ensure that scholar is able to get the degree course. These type of programs are known as zero
year program among students in UK. Main intention of these program is formulating the path
through which students learn things for longer time period that assist them a way to get the
degree. Moreover these programs helps the individual or students to improve their skill in which
they face a difficulty (Zokaei, Ziapour and Kianipour, 2016). By performing these task students
competes with “A” level certificate so that performance is constantly increasing for the
organisation. The present assignment is based on the foundation year articles which covers that
why these programs are important for students to take admission in particular field. Along with
these it pay attention on the objections that are featured by students for taking the admission. At
last skills that are essential to resolve the challenges of students will be covered in these report.
a) Investigate the value of foundation year student from broad participation aspect
The main role that is performed by the foundation programmes is to create the platform
for students to become part of well known university in United Kingdom. Along with these the
aim of foundation course is increasing the knowledge of particular subject and skill of applicant
or students in which they are weak are monitor. So that they are able to crack the entrance test of
all university of United Kingdom. GNVQ, foundation and course guide are some courses that
formulate the skills in individuals to perform similar like the Top students. Some importance of
foundation course and students is as follow:
Enhance academic skills: Foundation course, GNVQ etc. helps the students to modify
or learn the skill that relates with the specific tertiary or education. The major focus of these
individuals is to increase the abilities of individuals in which they are lacking behind through
providing proper training. Students who belong to below average specifically in the particular
field or weak in learning the programmes will rise in their knowledge to give competition to
local or “A” students (Shamim, 2018).
Raises the chances of entrance in reputable universities of UK: Educate who take
admission in these foundation courses after completing their high education increases the
possibilities to take admission in the topmost educational institution of UK. With these courses
students enhance their skills that helps them to increase their criteria and to become a part of

famed universities. At last it is more beneficial for students as it guides them to increase their
skill that are useful for students to crack admission test.
Loop holes that are present between knowledge of high school and university: The
foundation courses such as GNVQ are developed in such a way that fulfil the gap between study
pattern and students. Thus it is easy for them to find the skills in which there is lack of skills.
Students are lack in subject such as maths, physics, history etc. similar in the skills that are
essential for complete the task includes communication, concentration power etc. For these
foundation course helps them to emerge the skill that helps them to gain high success in career
(Salama, 2018). It works as bridge between knowledge and skill to overcome from the gap
between university and secondary education.
Help students to adopt university style teaching: Student who are the member of
foundation year course of study are benefited as compare to scholar who directly takes admission
from school. It determines that these courses provide university style teaching to their students
like lecturers, tutorials and on campus training to pursue further studies. Example- In UK there
are large number of universities are established which provides education to students to enhance
their career in right direction.
Specialise in chosen filed: University degree or higher education helps an individual to
get the subject knowledge with professionalism and expertise. Therefore foundation courses help
students to gain knowledge and increase their skill in which they want to pursue their further
studies (Li, Tao and Xue, 2016). In order to increase efficiency foundation course help fresher to
learn new thongs with easy and simple approach. Apart from these foundation course also helps
an individual to identify their skill so it is easy for them to predict that in which field it is easy
for them to get professional by executing their skills.
Additional support: Foundation courses plays an important role that help students to
learn new things like English, communication skill etc. UK is developed country it determines
that their individuals are highly educated. So it is also essential for students to increase their
knowledge and to learn basic things of their knowledge. Like they provide (EAP) English
academic course through which students understand and adopt those skill which are necessary
for their carrier.

B) Various objections faced by the foundation year students at time of taking admission in top
UK universities
United Kingdom students take part in foundation year courses so that their subject
related knowledge and skills are improved and are able to ace the admission pattern of top
universities. In order to capture the seat in the top universities the base of the students should be
strong so that they can perform like “A” students. It is the best opportunities for weak students
to enrich their knowledge in subject like, maths, history, physics etc. so that degree course can be
taken easily (Künü and Hopoglu, 2016). Some of the objection that are faced by foundation year
students is explained as follows:
Course scheduling issues: The main problem which foundation year student come
across it of courses of subjects are not scheduled timely. Due to this interest level of UK students
decreased and drop the idea of taking a degree course from a top universities. Foundation year
lacking in course scheduling pattern decreases the number of students taking admission in this
courses. Due to irregular course scheduling weak students are unable to perform similar like that
of “A” level students. This is a big challenge which UK students come cross while being a part
of the courses.
Sizes and number of classroom for subjects: Another challenges which student come
across is that of sizes and number of classroom available for various subjects in the foundation
year. Students moral value decreases as there are insufficient number of classroom for various
injects such maths, physics etc. due to which they drop the idea of taking degree of course from
UK universities. This decision affect the students career growth in the coming years and are
unable to take a good package job. Less number of classroom for subjects creates chaos and
mismanagement due to which their productivity decreases and are unable to crack admission
criteria of top universities (Impasse and Abbas, 1988).
Situational Issues: In this case, the scholarship or learning situations is not effective due
to which educate lack interest in courses like GNQV etc. Three major challenges which
foundation year student faces are family, finance, and time. In order to amend the skills and
knowledge that is related to subjects like, maths, physics, history etc. For this situation students
are in need to get the support from friends, family etc. such as finance and time. Some of the
skills like problem solving, collaboration and critical thinking are need to enhanced among
students it helps them to grow with their professional and personal life in parallel way.

Dispositional Challenges: Students who are the participant of foundation courses that
take place in UK are impacted by Dispositional Challenge. It is concerned with self-perceptions,
attitudes, belief because of this weak students left the thought of taking degree course from
universities (Hoang, 2016). In this particular case, students show fear regarding fear of isolation,
pressure of projects, low-level grades in test, cognitive skills, neglect, rivalry, etc. are the factors
that generates pressure among students which reduce the morale of students. So because of low
confidence and morale they are not able to take admission in well recognised universities of UK.
c) Explain how examination skills in higher studies assist foundation year students to overcome
from different challenges
To increase the knowledge it is essential for students to learn and develop some necessary
skill. It includes time management skills, test preparation, presentation and reading skill etc.)
includes some approaches that is implemented in learning. Example- study skills increases the
probability of students to enter them in top reputed universities of UK. Along with these it also
helps students to face the challenges that create barrier to crack the entrance test some of them
are mention as follow:
Time management: Time management is the essential skill for students as it helps
students to create time table for their routine work. Example- time schedules help students to
consume and utilise their time through which their performance will be increased at time of
study. With the help of these skill they effectively complete their work through which they
complete their work in order to measure the performance of their employees. While by doing
these they easily overcome from the issue that relates with scheduling of classes (Ebrahimi,
Huang and Andreev, 2016). At last these skills helps the students to consume minimum time for
performing the activities.
Communication skills: Communication, collaboration and problem solving are some
skills that help students to solve the issue and barrier that are faced by them in taking the
admission of universities. Students with effective communication skill help students to solve
several issue that relates their education. Like good command in English helps students to
modify their grammar and to follow those which is followed by British language. The language
or way of communication whether oral or written impact on the study on students. So it is
essential for them to increase their communication skill highly.

Multi-tasking skills: Students which are able to increase their skill in multiple ways they
solve the issue which is relate with classroom size. It governs that foundation course is essential
part for students that helps them to take admission in the first year of their specific field. Good or
high skills helps students to complete their work in complex circumstances with high morale.
Like the name suggest multi tasking skill help students to solve different problems that create
hindrances in their studies and specifically to take admission in the well-known universities.
Presentation skills: In present education system students are highly capable as they
increases their skills such as communication, adaptability etc. so they complete higher education
through approaching reputed universities of the UK (BENA, 2015). Example- presentation skills
will provide benefits to the students in building their career with positive approach. This skills
helps them to get over from the problem to formulate design that relates with the international
studies. Therefore foundation courses in UK provide English classes to students that belong to
different backgrounds so they easily adjust them in universities of UK. At last presentation skills
help them to crack the criteria of their admission and improve their performance on regular basis.
CONCLUSION
In the end from the above report it is concluded that foundation course perform an
essential role for guiding students in order to pursue their studies. With these foundation course
help them to increase their knowledge and English for becoming the students of Top universities.
Various challenges that relates with facilities, number of classroom and its size are faced by
students due to there is decrease in interest of them for getting a degree. At last skills like time
management, problem solving helps students to overcome from loopholes. Thus they are able to
facilitate the degree from UK universities.
