CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW
Introduction to the research project
This part of research describes a detail knowledge about the relationship exists between
countries of two regions – France and Arabic on the basis of linguistic, culture and different
aspects of living (Choueiri, 2016). The main aim behind conducting this study is to analyse the
similarities among nations of these areas. For this purpose, a number of historical articles has
been extracted from secondary sources to gather adequate information. This would help in
evaluating the facts about culture, living standard and other, to describe the similarities among
countries of both regions. Franco-Arab relations have been taken root from many centuries of
shared history, in terms of turmoil and cultural exchange (Goldschmidt Jr, 2018). Arab or UAE
countries consists a federation of seven states which has grown from backwater to important
economic centres of Middle east. While in context with France, this region of Western Europe it
consists 18 number of states with 72 countries that made this region as one of the largest empire
of the world. Along with this, all the overseas parts lie within the territorial boundaries are also
considered as an integral part of France. Among 18 regions of France, 13 are fundamentally
similar in terms provinces, while remaining 5 are overseas regions having equal status as other
regions (Acolin, Bostic and Painter, 2016). In this regard, through literature review, in-depth
analysis can be made on countries of both Arab and France regions, to analyse the relationship
among them. Through experts’ opinion and review of historical summary, a number of facts
about culture and political aspects has been explored in this section of literature review.
Literature review
As per views of Goldschmidt Jr (2018), it has identified that as UAE is traditionally
conservative but still it is known as one of the most liberal nation in the Gulf, having with
cultural and beliefs. In terms of politics, it remains consider as authoritarian, where relations with
neighboring countries like France is effective. UAE countries have been diversified in terms of
language, where Arab is considered the major language as mother tongue. With Arabic culture,
this region has 22 countries with varying levels of population. Many countries of Arab are
predominantly with Muslims. While in context with France, this kingdom has consolidated
power and territorially expanded over various regions. The culture of this country is highly
associated with Paris which is a fashion-centred, cuisine, and architectural based. The culture of

this region is much influenced by Celetic and Gallo-Roman culture historically. France is in
Western Europe and framed for its fashion houses and the classical art museums consisting
monuments such as Eiffel Tower. It renowned for its sophisticated cuisines and wines (Bleidorn
and et. al., 2016). Arab states include 22 Arabic speaking countries which are the members of
Arab league. Both the Arab countries and France have some similarities. France feels more
strongly regarding sense of universality and identity. As per BBC report, French is considered as
the official language which is spoken by 88% approx. of population. It is also considered as the
dominant language of France also
Arab countries have aura of mystery around them due to the culture. There is mix history,
religion and ethnicity at play in relationship among identities of French and Arab that develops
tension in fabric of French society. Mix of the perceptions like fearful, hidden and pleasant to
uncover true depth of intricacies among French and Arab identities. In this, social causes of Arab
spring consist wider gap in the income level, unemployment, large population, economic decline
and extreme poverty but also dissatisfied youth in population. In context to this, Arab spring is
varied than cause of French Revolution due to social media and Internet and also weaponry used
through government (Armstrong, 2017). At the time of French Revolution, there were several
pamphlets and newspapers which being word of mouth and written, spread of stories. On the
other hand, political reasons for revolution in Arab countries and French Revolution consist

people such as French Revolution. In France and Arab countries, economic conditions are
similar. In France, there was malnutrition, inflation and hunger that caused 50% enhance in cost

where 98% of people lived at poverty level where jobs and food were insecure. Crushing the
poverty in France was same to Arab countries. The youth in Arab countries are more educated
but they are unable to find the opportunities for job purpose. Several of the Arab nations have
60% unemployment rate for the educated men. In Arab countries and France, people felt that
Kings and Aristocrats were over privileged and undeserving (Berger and et. al., 2015).

According to them, they were living excess luxury life and wealth of blood sweat to struggling to
be survive. In the Arab countries, youth have the time to protest because they do not have any
job. Educated people are likely to exposed to the ideas such as democracy and also understand
from the history that how the government can be overthrown. In both the countries, gap among
poor and rich is vase and majority which are at poverty level were hungry and also their jobs are
not insecure with not access to the affordable healthcare and felt hopeless.

can not sustain in industry for longer time (Dawisha, 2016).
In Arabic countries, there was revolution, so people are able to know what has to be done
and actions which they can take to make themselves representing in front of other countries. In
past there was use of different media channel through which people came to know about France
revolution and some f the protest against it and some favours it. In resolution at French and Arab
countries, there was no change in business activities and not related to change in business
operations. With making operations performed for the purpose of determining and evaluating
