INTRODUCTION
Network monitoring software is defined as the software which manages and administers the
networking system of the organisation from its basic design to the implementation and also with
proper security concerns and frequent updates (Yang, Cui, Li and Xu, 2019). The current article
is based on the top 10 free networking monitoring software.
MAIN BODY
Nagios Core is one of the free networking monitoring software. It has the ability of active
development community and also the external plug-in support which helps in creating the
internal and external plugins used in the executables and shell scripts. Cacti is another free
networking monitoring software. It helps in the data collection for every element of the network
which includes the routing and switching systems and also the fire walls while representing the
data into robust graphs and also monitors a template as well. Zabbix is also one of the free
networking monitoring software. It consists of a simple and clean graphical user interface which
is easy to manage and also supports different technologies such as snmp and delnet and many
more. It facilitates the customisation of scripting and programming language which is broadly
the best feature of the software (Lemic, Abadal, Tavernier and Famaey, 2021). Ntop is also
another free networking monitoring software. It monitors the traffic in the network and also
manages the multiple interfaces while using the port and network tap from different data packets
and also analyse the network which are from the different speeds and report on the IP addresses.
Icinga is one of the free networking monitoring software which is backward compatible and
expanded with both the functionality and usability and its major focus is on the monetary and
management of the infrastructure and services of the information technology. Spiceworks is
another free networking monitoring software. It facilitates with free information technology
management tools which includes the inventory management and also the help desk workflow
which also manages the cloud and other networking areas as well. It is customisable in nature in
terms of notifications and restarting of the services. Observium community is also one of the free
networking monitoring software. It is an open source community in which it provides a free trial
for some days and then asks for the payments and it is mainly developed for home lab use. Wire
shark is also another free networking monitoring software which is the open source packet
analyser and has the ability to capture the packets and display them in a graphical manner. It also

provides the good filtering and grouping of the capabilities and also facilitates the user to capture
the traffic at wire speed. Tomorrow what provides the unlimited opportunities for security. Nmap
is one of the free networking monitoring software which finds the host in the network that is
used in the creation of a network map. It has the ability to collect the data and information from
the host in regards to the operating system and other services which also includes the Mac
address info and many more. Traceroute NG is another free networking monitoring software. It
facilitates the user in providing multiple ways to target the moment when the data packet is
transferred from one medium to another which tracks The data and avoids the road block so that
accuracy can be maintained (Li, 2020).
CONCLUSION
It is concluded that networking monitoring software is important to study and investigate so that
the network designer can easily operate such software and be comfortable in designing the
network and implementing it in an effective and efficient manner. Therefore it is significant to
reevaluate the top 10 free networking monitoring software. Hence the above discussion covers
all such areas in order to better understand the concept of networking monitoring software.
