Freedom writers us an American Drama film which was released in the year 2007. This
movie is directed by the Richard LaGravenese. The key stars within this movie are Hilary
Swank, Imelda Staunton, Scott Glenn, Mario and Patrick Dempsey. This movie is based on the
book known as “The Freedom Writers Diary”. Freedom writers is symbolically inspirational and
and also empowering. Freedom writers is mainly regarded to be as the developing of lives and
future of the class from the individual's freshman years to senior years. The key idea behind the
freedom writers film is mainly associated with the empowerment, tolerance, self- worth and
power of writing. Freedom writers film is useful in effectively acquiring the life skills and
academic skills in order to become highly responsible for their own set of lives and happiness. It
is useful in overcoming the social disadvantage. The freedom writer movie has panned two shots
and close up shots which is useful in effectively making the better understanding of the audience
related with the film.
Film technique analysis
The films tends to take a command over the senses of the individual which helps in
creating special set of atmosphere, feelings and also helps in bringing out emotions (Zulfian,
Sahril and Omolu, 2018). This is useful in significantly describing the way to create a film a
specific manner.
1. Colour Film technique analysis: Colour is considered to be as one of the key integral part
associated with the toolkit of the film-maker. The colours have been used which helps in setting
up the mood and emotions for the audience. Dark colours have been used which is useful in
effectively representing the justice, hurt and happiness. Dark colours has been used within the
clothes of students at the very start of the film. Use of drab colours for the gangster houses and

brighter colours have been used in the film for the teachers home and within the classroom. It is
considered to be highly prominent in representing the freedom, hope and happiness. The teacher
within the film freedom writers has bright colour clothing which mainly symbolizes that she is
considered to be as a beacon of hope for the student. Moreover, throughout the movie the colours
within the classroom and the clothes of student has become brighter which tends to state the re-
birth of happiness and hope (Fitri, 2017). However, the green and white flowers which has been
introduced within the classroom tends to effectively symbolize innocence, growth and hope.

Also, the white computers within the classroom is significant in effectively symbolizing

The red colour demonstrates anger, energy, excitement, fire, blood, violence power, etc. the pink
colour is for innocence, healthy, content, love, happy, etc. the blue colour is for faith,
perseverance, spirituality, etc. The colours within the film has been effectively set featuring key
colours with the costumes and props. The director of the film is choose the right light with the
colours in order to balance and also add the specific gel in order to change the colours related
with lighting (Baiju, 2018). There should be a balance within the colour. The lighting of the
camera tends to play a big role in order to maintain the balance between the colours.
2. Set design and music maestroes film technique analysis: It is one of the key significant film

The dark alleys within the film of freedom writers creates a gloomy and mysterious atmosphere.
This in turn makes it obvious that something bad is about to happen. There seems to very little
lighting which makes the atmosphere even darker (Nugroho, 2017). This scene of the movie has
been shot at the night. This somehow represents that what is about to occur is bad and also they
do not want anybody to find out about this bad deed.
Marcuss's Room: The room of the Marcuss has dark lighting which makes the room look
shabbier.
The Office: There seems to be extreme silence within the room which tends to represent that
Erin has been losing its battle. Moreover, the face of all the individual who are present within
the room are stern which tends to state that, the response is going to be a bad one.
The Court Room: This set is useful in effectively representing the key importance associated

Throughout the movie there seems to be effective rap and hip hop music which is
considered to be highly significant in representing the violence and gang. Moreover, in the
meaningful parts of the film, the use of soft music has been done. This is usually done by playing
piano and guitar in the background (Fitriani, 2017). There are range of different musics which
has been playing within the movie and tends to mainly represent togetherness, anger, excitement
and happiness. The key theme related with the study is to demonstrate the conflict between the
students, teachers and other gangs and tribes. The death and life has been effectively shown
within the movie through the key struggles of gang violence. However, film technique analysis
