EUROPEAN COLONISATION OF NORTH AMERICA
The colonial power of Europe that I have chosen is the French Colonial Power. The story
of France’s colonial power began in the year 1605, with the foundation of Port Royal, in the
North America and this led to the colonialism of the capital of the fur trading colony of New
France (also known as Canada). The French colonial power colonized the North America
because of the availability of furs (Shi & Tindall, 2016). Through the Fur trade with the Native
American people, the French was successful in establishing the colonial footprint. The main
reason for choosing France as any likely place of colonization because it was a lot different from
that of Spain and English. France unlike them, knew that if they had to colonize, it could not be
possible without expressing aggression and dominance over the colonized. Instead they needed
to be treated with respect, acceptance and humanity. With the alliance with the Native American
tribes, there was lose control over the North American colonies by the French settlements. In
accordance with this the French people began to establish relations with the Indian women to
expand their families. The French people did not consider there was this mixing of race that was
occurring and thy ignored the consequences. This had a negative consequence of the mixture of
races, including the Creole, the European blood with the Native Indians (Stuchtey, 2017). The
French policy was of a great importance to the nation, as it did not try to dominate the Native
Americans and exert force upon the people. This helped them to win hearts and easily colonize
them, which was the target of the French colonial power (Echeverria, 2015). The reason for
which I have chosen the French as the most likely colonial power is because I have the similar
characteristics as that of the French colonial power. My personality is that of kindness and
tolerance and this is the reason why the French colonial power influenced me and attracted me. If
I was a colonist, I would have had the same policies because according to me , attracting more
people to my side and colonizing them or to bring them under my control would have been

possible with the personality that I possess. According to me, it is easier to get want you want by
flattering them and being polite to them and not by making demands to them. Another reason for
choosing the French colonial power and for becoming a French colonist is because of how they
converted the Indians to the religion of Christianity (Fieldhouse, 2015). The French colonies did
not force the Indians to convert to Christianity or did not exert any kind of dominance. Instead
their focus was on th individual Indians who had the choice of conversion to Christianity. They
basically chose to live among the Indians and not sweep the nationality away from the colonies
by colonialism. This is another reason why I would like to be a French colonist.
