Introduction
The following essay attempts a discussion on the theories of personality as had been
proposed by Freud and Roger. The essay opens with a discussion on the theory of personality as
stated by Sigmund Freud and proceeds to throw light on the theory of personality as was
discussed by Carl Roger. The essay nears a conclusion with the comparison of the theories of
personality that were put forth by the two celebrated philosophers.
Freud's theory of personality
Sigmund Freud states that the human beings are generally driven by the inborn energy
that enables as well as motivates the human beings to survive (Cervone & Pervin, 2015). The
theory as proposed by Freud states that every human mind is subdivided into three different
parts, the conscious, the subconscious and the unconscious. The major conflicts that are faced by
the concerned human being is a result of the conflict that is faced by the forces of the
unconscious mind.
Roger's theory of personality
Carl Roger is also known to have developed his own theory regarding the human
personality. The key point of the theory as stated by Roger states that the all the individuals who
have been living within the world can be said to have been living in the center of the world of
experience that is susceptible to constant changes (Udo-Imeh, 2015). The theory as put for the by
Rogers state that the human beings tend to demonstrate a tendency to the achievement of the
extreme potential of the person and thereafter enhance the existing boundaries of those
potentials.

The theory stated by Freud is majorly based on nature and pays lesser attention to the
environmental factors that are useful in the shaping of the human personality (Fitzgerald, 2017).
The Freudian theory further states that the personality of a certain human being cannot be
changed since the personality of the adults are highly dependent on the experiences that were
faced by the person during his childhood days.
On the other hand, Roger states that the human beings tend to be hugely motivated due to
the development of the innate desire of the human beings which in turn tend to become one of
the major factors that is necessary for the derivation of the motivation of the human beings
(Campbell, 2017). The philosopher further states that the reality might be defined as the
experiences of the concerned person who has been facing the condition (Eremie & Ubolum,
2016). However, Roger opines that the personality of the human beings holds the power to make
as well as modify and change their decisions according to the situations that they face during
their lifetime.
Conclusion
In lieu of the above discussion, the personality theories that are presented by philosophers
tend to be relevant in the modern days. The theory stated by Freud is majorly based on nature
and pays lesser attention to the environmental factors that are useful in the shaping of the human
personality. On the other hand, Roger states that the human beings tend to be hugely motivated
